Raf Simons Men’s Fall 2013: Defining Moment
A new silhouette.
A new silhouette.
You’d better be-leaf it: Chanel’s Haute Couture invite is here, and as usual, we’re trying to krack Karl’s kode.
Paris is going to be slightly less fabulous this upcoming fashion month: Mom-to-be Sarah Burton won’t stage a runway show for Alexander McQueen.
FLORENCE–Despite having a cult following of cool kids, being stocked at Colette and Opening Ceremony, and just this year opening a store to much buzz in New York’s NoMad hotel, 10-year-old French/Japanese record label/fashion brand Maison Kitsuné had never put on a fashion show until last night.
FLORENCE–Food might be just as important as fashion for Carol Lim and Humberto Leon.
The hit-makers behind Opening Ceremony and, since fall 2012, Parisian house Kenzo, always find a way to incorporate food into their presentations. (For their very first Kenzo womenswear show they flew Magnolia bakers from New York to Paris to make sure every guest had a cupcake on his/her seat.) So when Pitti Uomo came calling to ask Kenzo to be the featured menswear designer at the prestigious trade show, Lim and Leon went with their guts.
FLORENCE–Menswear aficionados will know the name Andrea Pompilio. He’s been “one to watch” since he won Pitti Uomo’s prestigious Who’s On Next design competition in 2011, and has been showing his menswear collections to critical acclaim during Pitti Uomo in Florence ever since.
Readers of this site might not be familiar with Pompilio’s work but now he’s given us ladies reason to take notice. Yesterday he presented his first ever womenswear collection.
Finally.
Karl Lagerfeld’s Metiers D’Arts shows for Chanel have become known for their extravagant settings in exotic locations–Scotland, Versailles, Venice, Moscow, Paris of course.
And next? Dallas. As in Dallas, Texas.
When Tom Ford’s name popped up on the official London Fashion Week catwalk schedule, we had to wonder, “What does it all mean?” Well, it means he’s doing a confirmed, honest-to-god, proper runway show–instead of his usual private, no-photos-allowed presentations–for the first time since he launched his eponymous womenswear line in 2010. Wheee!
There will be one less fantastical, intricately-crafted collection to ogle at the haute couture shows in January. Givenchy, whose couture collections have always been among the standouts each season, just announced it won’t be officially presenting a couture collection this season.
From the celebs, to the Chanel blankets stashed under seats (it was snowing), to the cozy, romantic clothes, read on for everything you need to know about this grand spectacle.
The Victoria’s Secret fashion show must go on. Despite a devastating hurricane and a snowy noreaster, the Angels took the runway last night at the 69th Regiment Armory. It was such a feat, the New York Post even put the show on its cover. Headline? “Sandy Now Snow & Ice..God Hates Us!…But We Have an Angel.”
Of course Victoria’s Secret provided angels in more ways than one this past week.
The Victoria’s Secret fashion show is being taped later today, and while we won’t get to see it in all its glittery glory until December 4 (10pm EST on CBS), the Angels (and others lucky enough to be hanging around) have been madly tweeting and Instagramming from backstage and at fittings for the last few days.
You know you want to see a close-up of Candice Swanepoel’s abs and Karlie’s new haircut.
