Sometimes, we forget that not everyone knows which Kate we mean when it comes to Moss, Lanphear, Schelter or Young, or who they even are. And sometimes, we make up words and talk about obscure fashion mags and people you may have never heard of. So we're sorry and we're making it up to you. Welcome to the Fashionista Glossary. - Adriana Lima
- Brazilian Victoria's Secret model who, with the help of Ricardo Tisci, is slowly crossing the line into high fashion. She walked Givenchy's AW09 runway and will star in the campaign. Photo.
- Agent Provocateur
- The UK's answer to Victoria's Secret, but more expensive and cooler, because it's British. Founded by Joe Corre, Vivienne Westwood's son. Close to Fashionista's heart post-Faran & Britt debut in Fall 08.
- Agyness Deyn [AG-niss deen]
- British model—maybe super—best friend of Henry Holland. Born Laura Hollins, modeled for Burberry, Armani, Hugo Boss, frequent Vogue cover girl, Pirelli calendar girl, and ubiquitous party girl. Photo.
- Alasdair McLellan
- British photographer. He's shot covers and editorials for many publications, from Teen Vouge to POP Magazine.
- Alber Elbaz
- Israeli fashion designer, artistic director of Lanvin since 2001. Received a standing ovation for his Spring 08 collection, is rarely seen without a bowtie.
- Alexa Chung
- British television presenter, former fashion model. Frequently cited as a "best dressed" kind of girl.
- Alexander McQueen
- Brilliant Brit designer, actually named Lee, rose to fame when Isabella Blow bought his entire graduate collection. Sent a hologram of Kate Moss down his runway while the model did her stint in rehab. Makes the most stunning clothes Britt's ever seen.
- Alexander Wang
- Winner of 2008 CFDA award. Popularized sexy grunge with muse, stylist and bff Erin Wasson.
- Alice Dellal
- Socialite daughter of former Brazilian model, Andrea Dellal. Sister of Charlotte and Alex Dellal. Fall 08 face of Mango, Alexander Wang muse (but only after Erin). Known for a half-shaved head, bright red lipstick and a tough-chick vibe.
- Ali Stephens
- Mormon Teen Vogue darling and former Calvin Klein exclusive. Former face of Chloé, Gap, M Missoni, CK Jeans and Chanel make-up. Best friends with Karlie Kloss. Signed to Elite. Photo.
- Amanda Harlech, Lady
- Former fashion editor turned John Galliano's muse turned Karl Lagerfeld's muse. Works as Lagerfeld's "outside pair of eyes" for Chanel, Fendi and Lagerfeld and writes stories. Read this.
- American Eagle
- A low-to-mid-tier mall brand popularized by Joey Potter.
- Amy Astley
- Super nice editor-in-chief of Teen Vogue since its launch in 2003. Before that, Beauty Director of Vogue.
- Amy Sacco
- Well-connected owner of Bungalow 8 nightclubs in New York and London, and Bette restaurant. Wears Donna Karan a lot. Constantly photographed at fashion events.
- André Leon Talley
- Friend of Oprah, editor-at-large of Vogue, writes about the shows and his weight loss in monthly column: "Life With André."
- Angela Lindvall
- American model known for her success in the 90's even though she still works a lot today, environmentalist and mother of two. Is the Spring 09 face of Hermes. Photo.
- Anja Rubik
- Dutch blonde model, typically can be found in Gucci's ads, known for great style and being one of Wang's girls. Photo.
- Ann Demeulemeester[ann de-MYOO-le-MEE-ster]
- Very cool Belgian fashion designer, member of the Antwerp Six.
- Anna Dello Russo
- Fashion Director at Large and Creative Consultant for Vogue Nippon. Frequent subject of the Sartorialist (known for her inimitable style).
- Anna Sui
- World renowned American fashion designer who runs her own eponymous label, which is known for its bohemian-meets-rock and roll aesthetic. Created a collection for Target in Fall 2009 inspired by Gossip Girl.
- Antwerp Six
- A group of avante-garde fashion designers who graduated from The Royal Academy of Fine Arts in 1980-81 under the direction of Linda Loppa. They piled into a truck and stormed their way into London Fashion Week, officially putting Antwerp on the fashion map. The six are: Ann Demeulemeester, Walter Van Beirendonck, Dirk Van Saene, Dries Van Noten, Dirk Bikkembergs, and Marina Yee.
- Azzedine Alaia[Azzedine Uh-LIE-uh]
- Beloved Tunisian designer, famously began his professional career with Dior, a stint that lasted only five days. Known for letting so many supermodels live with him, for designing collections only when the mood strikes, but is still perhaps best known by most people for his reference in Clueless.
- Band of Outsiders
- Ex-Hollywood agent Scott Sternberg's menswear line, founded in 2004; Also includes his womenswear line, Boy by Band of Outsiders, which has been fronted by the likes of Kirsten Dunst and Michelle Williams.
- Bar Rafaeli
- Israeli model, best known for her work with Sport Illustrated and for having co-hosted several television shows, both in Israel and the US. In 2009, was named co-host of MTV's revival of House of Style. Is also widely known as Leonardo DiCaprio's girlfriend.
- Behati Prinsloo
- Namibian model signed to Supreme, best friend to Coco Rocha and girlfriend to jewelry designer Jamie Strachan. Named the face of Victoria's Secret Pink line in 2008. Photo.
- Behaz Sarafpour
- Iranian-born American designer, known for simple clothes and as a Vogue darling. Worked as a designer for Anne Klein while still at Parsons.
- Bernard Arnault
- French businessman, owns 47.5% of LVMH and Christian Dior and is Chairman and CEO of both.
- Beth Ditto
- Lead singer of The Gossip and a favorite of the British Fashion pack. Landed the first cover of Katie Grand's Conde Nast mag, LOVE.
- Bianca Brandolini
- Well-known socialite daughter of Valentino's old PR girl, Georgina Brandolini. Sister of Coco, also well-known for parties and what they wear.
- Bill Cunningham
- Legendary New York Times photographer, like the godfather of street style photography. Can usually be found both outside and inside every single fashion show and most parties rocking a bright blue jacket, tie, camera and pad of paper.
- Bliss Lau
- New York based jewelry designer. Known for her amazing body jewelry, great belts and being Erin Wasson's indirect muse for LowLuv.
- Bonnie Morrison
- Formerly of KCD PR fame. Well known for her easy style, which is often showcased on The Sartorialist, especially during Fashion Week.
- Brian Atwood
- American model turned shoe designer, started his own line in 2001 after designing for Versace.
- Byrdie Bell
- Originally named Evelyn Byrd Bell. Well-dressed American It-girl and actress, signed with Ford models.
- Candace Bushnell
- An NYC-based writer most famous for her sex column which eventually turned into the HBO series, Sex and the City.
- Candy Pratts Price
- The executive fashion director of STYLE.COM, who Anna Wintour described once as the "Queen of the Internet".
- Carine Roitfeld [Officially: Ka-REEN rot-FELD; But in the US, you'll most likely hear it as: ka-RIN ROYT-feld]
- Editor-in-chief of French Vogue and possessor of the best style, arguably. Often seen in Balmain, Alaia, Malo and Givenchy with the highest of heels and on the arm of her model son and graphic designer daughter.
- Carmen Kass
- Supermodel turned actress (Set Point, 2004), businesswoman (part-owner of Baltic Models) and politician (she ran for European Parliament in 2004). Known for her legs and her walk and has often been a muse for Michael Kors.
- Catherine McNeil
- Australian model, has been on the covers of Vogue Paris and V (among many others) and is currently the face of the Narciso Rodriguez Essence fragrance. Also, her Wiki page says she's a metalhead. Photo.
- Cathy Horyn[Cathy HORE-in]
- The New York Times fashion critic. Also writes their fashion blog, On the Runway. Loves Marc Jacobs and Balenciaga, banned from Armani after a less than glowing review in February of 2008.
- CFDA
- The Council of Fashion Designers of America. The trade organization you want to be a part of if you're designing clothes in America. Awards cash and a mentor to one new designer each year. Diane Von Furstenberg is president.
- Chanel Iman
- American model, is rumored to be a host on MTV's House of Style revival, and appeared on that American Vogue model-ensemble cover from May 2007. Photo.
- Charlotte Gainsbourg
- London-born French singer/actress, daughter of Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin. Also a darling of the fashion world, was the face of Balenciaga for Fall 08.
- Charlotte Olympia
- Sister of Alice Dellal, graduate of Cordwainers College and a London IT girl. She's known for those super sexy colorblock shoes with the red rim.
- Christian Siriano
- Winner of season four of Project Runway.
- Christophe Decarnin [Officially: Christophe De-car-NAHN (soft on that last "n"); But in the US, you'll most likely hear it as: Christophe De-CAR-nin]
- Designer for Balmain since winter 2006, from Paco Rabanne. For more, read this.
- Christopher Kane
- Scottish designer taken under Donatella Versace's wing. Won New Designer of the Year award from the British Fashion Council in 2007, designed a collection for Topshop in 2006 and 2009, collaborated with Lancôme for a one-off lipgloss and currently designs the Versus revival.
- Chuck Close
- American painter and photographer known for his larger-than-life photorealistic portraits. A rare spinal artery collapse left him paralyzed, and he continues to create his works in a wheelchair.
- Cintia Dicker
- Brazilian model, known for her bright red hair and freckles, the unofficial Fashionista mascot (she's the girl whose picture pops up when readers leave a comment under "guest"). Signed with Marilyn. Amazing. Photo.
- Claire McCardell
- American fashion designer born in 1905, a leader in the concept of American ready-to-wear. Is often cited as an inspiration to many other designers, including Marc Jacobs and Isaac Mizrahi.
- Clueless
- Amy Heckerling's 1995 masterpiece loosely based on Jane Austen's Emma starring Alicia Silverstone. Overflows with epic quotes and is basically the greatest movie of all time in Fashionista land.
- Cobrasnake
- The hipster photographer, "discovered" Cory Kennedy, Nylon darling and kind of a creeper. Collaborates with Ksubi a lot.
- Coco Rocha [Coco RO-shuh]
- Canadian model, American Vogue darling, Irish dancer extraordinare, (see Gaultier's F/W 07 runway). One of the only models to openly discuss weight issues within the fashion industry. Modeled for Balenciaga, Phi, Lanvin and Chanel. Signed to Elite. Photo.
- Colette
- The wildly popular and eclectic rue-Saint Honore boutique. Gap recently did a partnership with the French company, hoping to give the brand more of an edge.
- Cory Kennedy
- Los Angeles based internet celebrity turned Nylon columnist and TV host. Signed to One, has modeled for Sebastian hair products and Urban Decay. Proponent of all things baggy and plaid.
- Costello Tagliapietra [Costello Tag-lya-PYE-tra]
- Surprisingly burly New York design duo and makers of well tailored dresses, Vogue darlings. One of their dresses is in the Met.
- Craig McDean
- British fashion photographer, used to assist Nick Knight. Married to Tabitha Simmons.
- Daisy Lowe
- Daughter of Gavin Rossdale and Pearl Lowe, rose to model fame while dating Mark Ronson and posing for Agent Provocateur and Doc Martens.
- Danielle Scutt
- Central Saint Martins graduate with a Top Shop collection and slightly edgy designs.
- Daphne Guinness
- Heiress to the Guinness fortune, but better known as a style icon and collector of haute couture. People who love her, love her.
- Dasha Zhukova
- Russian art gallery manager, designer of Kova & T, and (pregnant as of fall 09) girlfriend of Russian billionaire, Roman Abramovich. Named editor-in-chief of POP in early 2009, after Katie Grand's departure for LOVE.
- David LaChapelle
- Legendary music, fashion and pop culture photographer (as well as music video director). Andy Warhol offered him his very first job, at Interview, and now he has solo exhibits in major museums.
- Derek Blasberg
- Freelance fashion writer, most often found on Style.com, and editor of V Magazine (In)famous for coming between Jack Mcollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler.
- Diane Pernet
- The woman behind the industry beloved blog, A Shaded View of Fashion. Often spotted in the front row of every show, always wearing all black and always rocking quite the mantilla.
- Dree Hemingway
- Ernest's granddaughter, used to go by Dree Crisman until she wanted a real modeling career. Once she changed her name she landed a Givenchy runway exclusive, a Gucci ad and a Vogue Russia cover. Photo.
- Dries Van Noten [DREEs van NO-tin]
- Belgian designer, member of the Antwerp Six, won the CFDA International Award in 2008. Barneys was the first to buy his collection. He doesn't advertise and he loves to garden.
- Doutzen Kroes [DOUBT-sin CROWS]
- Dutch model who resembles Barbie, currently a Victoria's Secret Angel and signed by DNA Models. Photo.
- Elettra Wiedemann
- American daughter of Isabella Rossellini, Lancome model, New School student, Vogue girl, bff of designer Chris Benz, etc. All around glamorous.
- Ellen Von Unwerth
- Major photographer. She's German and got her start photographing Claudia Schiffer for Guess; now she's in Vogue, Vanity Fair, Lula etc. and her pictures are always perfectly dreamy.
- Eniko Mihalik
- Hungarian model, signed with Marilyn, walks every major runway. Photo.
- Erin Wasson
- Maybelline model, former muse and stylist to Alexander Wang. "Designs" clothes for RVCA and body jewelry under her own label LowLuv. Photo.
- Fabien Baron
- Creative Director of Calvin Klein Jeans. The man behind Madonna's SEX book.
- Faran Krentcil
- Founding editor of Fashionista, currently the Digital Director at NYLON. All-around funny, intelligent editor/party person.
- Fern Mallis
- Senior Vice President of IMG Fashion, former creative director of the CFDA, she organized the first New York Fashion Week in 1993 and still runs the tents today. During Fashion Week, she is everywhere.
- FOB
- Stands for Front-of-Book, which is the term used to describe the first third of most magazines, which are filled with mostly ads and quick, newsy stories.
- Francisco Costa
- The creative director of Calvin Klein Collection who's also been rewarded the CFDA award twice for best womenswear designer.
- François Pinault
- French businessman and billionaire, owner of Christie's and PPR, the holding company that owns Gucci, YSL, Sergio Rossi and Balenciaga, among others.
- Frankie Rayder
- American model signed with IMG. More famous in the 90's, though still appears in editorials and on runways today. Is one of the many models in the Spring 09 GAP campaign, is also known for acting like a bad-ass. Photo.
- Freja Beha Erichsen
- Danish model signed with IMG. Known for her androgynous look and for her many tattoos. Very close friends with Cat McNeil. Photo.
- Frida Giannini
- Italian fashion designer who is the current creative director of Gucci.
- Garance Dore
- Street style photographer based in Paris. Usually has funny and sweet write-ups along with her photographs, and also does original illustrations.
- Gareth Pugh [Gareth PYOO]
- London fashion darling, and Central Saint Martins alum, perhaps most fondly remembered for his rat coat. Scored an internship with Rick Owens, who doesn't take interns. Wow.
- The Geldof Girls
- Peaches, Pixie and Fifi Trixibelle are the daughters of rockstar and Live Aid founder Bob Geldof and the tragic Paula Yates. Peaches hosts Nylon TV and poses for Agent Provocateur, Pixie's a UK style icon and Fifi Trixibelle works in PR.
- Gemma Ward
- Doll faced (or alien faced) Australian model. The youngest model to land a Vogue cover and the first model to land a Teen Vogue cover. Transitioning into an acting career with The Black Balloon. Photo.
- Genevieve Jones
- New York Socialite and Zac Posen muse who is often praised for her style choices. Has a jewelry line and a small handbag collection but no specific job. Hails from Louisiana.
- Georgia May Jagger
- The gorgeous daughter of Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall. Face of Hudson Jeans for Fall 2009 and will star in the upcoming campaign for Rimmel London. Known for her gap-toothed smile. Photo.
- Giles Deacon
- Rather chiseled British darling, bffs with Luella and Katie Grand, designs dresses that are equal parts punk and girly. Worked at Gucci circa Tom Ford and sent Lara Stone as Lady Pacman down his Spring 09 runway.
- Glenn O'Brien
- Currently best known as the Editorial Director of Interview, a magazine he also worked at as a music critic back when Andy Warhol was still alive and oversaw the publication. Is also GQ's "Style Guy," and frequent freelancer for many publications.
- Goyard [go-YARD (soft on that "d")]
- French malletier, (luggage maker), actually, the second oldest one ever. Their $1000 logoed bags experienced major Hollywood popularity circa 2005. You can score a vintage trunk for around $28,000.
- Grace Coddington
- Fomer model and Creative Director of Vogue UK. The Creative Director of American Vogue for the past twenty years. In 2003 she said, "When readers pick up Vogue, I want them to smile. Everything should be a little tongue in cheek, a little dare-to-go-there."
- Halston
- The label responsible for the look of the 1970s, a look currently owned by Rachel Zoe. Attempted resurrection of the brand has gone less than smoothly under Harvey Weinstein's ownership. Rachel Zoe and Marco Zanini creatively directed for less than one year before being fired. No word on who will take up the design reigns.
- Hamish Bowles
- Europen Editor at Large of Vogue, who has worked at the magazine since 1992. Known for his impeccable fashion sense, he is considered to be one of the most influential people in the industry.
- Harley Viera Newton
- New York Socialite/NYU student. She caught our attention in Marc Jacobs' Fall 07 front row and has since landed a mini-story in Vogue.
- Harvey Nichols
- British department store founded as a linen shop in 1813 - our version of a candy store.
- Hedi Slimane
- Former Creative Director of Dior Homme, the man behind the skinny black suit and the reason Karl Lagerfeld dropped almost 100 pounds. Almost started his own line under LVMH but decided to focus on photography instead, which he's equally good at. The world waits with bated breath for his next design move.
- Henry Holland
- British fashion designer, known for his ironic slogan t-shirts. Childhood friends with Agyness Deyn and self-proclaimed "Fashionista's number one UK fan".
- Hilary Rhoda
- American model known for her thick eyebrows and pale blue eyes. Most recognized for her work with Estee Lauder, with whom she signed an exclusive contract in 2007.
- Hussein Chalayan
- Nicosia-born avant-garde designer, graduate of Central Saint Martins. Well known for clothes that sometimes appear alien-like, but maybe best known for calling Kate Moss' Topshop collaboration "insulting".
- Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin
- Dutch photographer duo who always shoot together. They've shot editorials for every major magazine and ad campaigns for everyone from Givenchy to H&M to YSL to Gap.
- Ingrid Sischy
- Former editor-in-chief of Interview magazine (until Fabien and Glenn took over); Also former member of Andy Warhol's Factory. Frequent freelance non-fiction writer.
- Iris Apfel
- Iconic and influential fashion and interior designer. Well known for her unique and colorful personal style. Nearly ninety, with her short white hair and signature round glasse, she is still relevant.
- Iris Strubegger
- Austrian model with killer cheekbones, signed with Supreme Management in 2007, after announcing her retirment in 2003, and walked over fifty runways for both 09 seasons.
- Irving Penn
- American photographer who has been working solidly since the 1940s. Known for his concise and carefully arranged photographs, his work is often seen in Vogue. He married his muse, Lisa Fonssagrives.
- Isabella Blow
- Beloved editor, international style icon, wearer of hats and discoverer of Alexander McQueen, Sophie Dahl and Stella Tennant. Muse to Phillip Treacy. Committed suicide in May 2007.
- James Kaliardos
- Internationally renowned makeup artist, can be found backstage at all the major shows or in the pages of any worthy fashion magazine. Oh, and he's also one of the original founders of Visionaire.
- Jane Mayle[Jane MAIL]
- NYC based fashion designer, know for her namesake line Mayle, which is closing up shop in April 2009.
- Janie Bryant[Jane MAIL]
- Current Emmy nominated costume designer for Mad Men; previous winner for Deadwood. Has collaborated with Brooks Brothers & Banana Republic in the past, wants to launch her own line.
- Jason Wu
- American designer originally from Taiwan, sends sophisticated looks down the runway. He debuted his first full collection in for SS07, but became a household name when Michelle Obama wore his designs, including a gown he made for her for the inaugural balls.
- Jeanne Lanvin [Jean (like every French "Jean" you've ever heard of) Lan-VAHN (soft on that last "n")]
- Started her millinery line in 1889. The dresses she made for her daughter received so much attention that she opened the House of Lanvin and joined the Syndicat de la Couture in 1909.
- Jean Patou [Jean (like every French "Jean" you've ever heard of) Pa-TOO]
- A french fashion designer most active in the '20s and '30s. Credited with popularizing the cardigan, inventing the tennis skirt and creating the second best selling perfume (behind Chanel No. 5, of course), Joy.
- Jefferson Hack
- Founder of Dazed & Confused and Another Magazine. Kate Moss' baby-daddy, married to French model Anouck Lepere.
- Jeremy Kost
- New York Polaroid picture taker for us and everyone else. Jeremy's known for his magical ability to catch people like the Olsens and high strung fashion editors in their most relaxed state.
- Jeremy Scott
- Crazy, cartoony awesome fashion designer - he shows in Paris. Sent Oscar the Grouch down the runway and dresses Cory Kennedy. Ranked above Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney on The Face's list of The Most Important People in Fashion.
- Jessica Stam
- Canadian model, incredibly successful. Has been the face of Marc (he even named a bag after her), Miu Miu, Prada, and many more. Is known for her walk, The Stam, which is basically a casual strut that many other models seem incapable of doing. Photo.
- Joe Corre [Joe COR-ee]
- Founder of Agent Provocateur, son of Vivienne Westwood.
- Jourdan Dunn
- Quickly successful British model, discovered in Primark. Best known for becoming the first black model to walk the Prada show (during Fall 08) in ten years. Photo.
- Julian Schnabel
- Artist and New York party scene staple, husband to pajama maker Olatz and therefore most likely to wear silk pajamas on a red carpet. And by most likely we mean always.
- Julie Gilhart
- Fashion director of Barneys New York, responsible for the store's insane popularity due to very diverse stock and its unprecedented support of young designers. Constant party companion of Rogan Gregory.
- Karlie Kloss
- Midwestern ballet dancer turned into one of this generation's/Teen Vogue's favorite models following a F/W 08 Calvin Klein exclusive. Owns signature "death stare" on the runway and is best friends with Ali Stephens Photo.
- Karl Templer
- Very respected stylist, best known for his work on countless Calvin Klein campaigns. Had a brief stint as Creative Director of Interview for part of 2008.
- Kate Lanphear [Kate LANN-feer]
- Style director of Elle Magazine. Wears YSL Fall 08 sweatpants like a rockstar.
- Kate Moss
- If you're reading this, go to Jail, do not pass Go, do not collect $200.
- Katie Grand
- One of—if not the most—important stylists in the industry. Styles Prada, Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu, Topshop runways, etc. Founding editor of beloved POP magazine, editor-in-chief of yet-to-be-released Condé Nast title Love, and all around fashion superstar.
- KCD
- Pretty much the biggest PR house in fashion, clients include Marc Jacobs, Anna Sui, DVF, etc.
- Kelly Cutrone
- Head of fashion PR firm People's Revolution which reps Sass & Bide and Jermey Scott, among others. She was featured on a season of The Hills when Whitney and Lauren interned at the LA office.
- Lady Bunny
- Tennessee-born drag queen, started career alongside RuPaul. Shows up at a decent about of fashion events and shows.
- Lanvin
- See Jeanne Lanvin for history. Currently, a French line designed by Alber Elbaz, lauded especially (mostly by Natalie) for the Spring 08 collection.
- Lara Stone
- Dutch model signed to Elite. Carine Roitfeld's model du jour. Generally loved for her "curves" but really she's just ridiculously sexy. Photo.
- Lauren Santo Domingo
- American socialite, best known by her maiden name, Lauren Davis. Kind of works at Vogue, is seen everywhere, is probably best known for her Olivier Theyskens-designed Nina Ricci wedding gown.
- Leigh Lezark
- New Jersey-born member of the New York-based DJ trio, the MisShapes. Signed to IMG, known for wearing all black, never smiling in photos, and for her jet black shortish hair which is always worn straight and on a side part.
- Lily Donaldson
- British model, blonde, gorgeous, though some think she's a bit too thin. Best friends with Canadian model, Lisa Cant. Photo.
- Linda Evangelista
- One of the originals, one third of the Trinity alongside Naomi Campbell and Christy Turlington. Won't "wake up for less than $10,000 a day" - and that was in 1990. Photo.
- Lisa Fonssagrives

- Nina Ricci [Nina REE-chee]
- French fashion house founded by Maria Ricci in 1932. In 2003, Lars Nilsson unsuccessfully revived the brand before passing the design torch to Olivier Theyskens post-Rochas, who makes some of the most stunning, ethereal dresses this century's seen and repeatedly chooses to put them on Reese Witherspoon. As of March 2009, it is widely believed that Olivier has been fired from Nina Ricci, and has shown his last collection for the house, his Fall 09.

- Opening Ceremony
- A high-end clothing store with locations in New York, Los Angeles, and Tokyo. Known for its seasonal collaborations with Chloe Sevigny and its collection of both emerging and established designers from around the world. One of the few places that carries Rodarte.

- Major model of the 70's, muse to YSL and mother to model Anna Cleveland.

- French photographer. Shot just about everyone and every cover. Sits front row with Carine, had a cameo in Sex and the City: The Movie and a shout out in The Devil Wears Prada.

- Party photographer extraordinare. Used to hang with Warhol and now has a team of photographers spread across New York City taking pictures of everyone who's anyone at all the important events.

- Peter Som
- Winner of the Parson's Gold Thimble and CFDA favorite. Head designer of Bill Blass from July 2007 to 2008 when he stepped down, despite Anna Wintour's requests. Still designs his own line which is a favorite with starlets.
- Philip Crangi
- CFDA nominated jeweler to the designers. Crangi regularly collaborates with Costello Tagliapietra and Shipley & Halmos and you can buy his super cool work on his own site or net-a-porter.
- Philip Treacy [Philip TRAY-see]
- Renowned milliner. His headwear's graced runways from Givenchy to Chanel Couture.
- Phoebe Philo
- Currently designs for Celine. Took over Chloe from Stella McCartney in 2001 and made the label a major success with girly frocks, major shoes and chunky bags. Devastated the industry by going on a long maternity leave - we're very excited to have her back in Fall 09.

- Beloved New York based line designed by Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez. Barneys' Julie Gilhart bought their entire senior collection before they even collected their degrees from Parsons. Winners of the first CFDA Emerging Designer award and Vogue favorites.

- A Belgian fashion designer most famous for being the Creative Director behind Jil Sander, a post he took up in 2005.

- Italian designer best known for loud animal prints and having designed a capsule collection for H&M.
- Rochas [ro-SHAH]
- Fashion house founded way back in 1925 by Marcel Rochas, but became obsession du jour only in 2002 when Olivier Theyskens became creative director. They shuttered their doors in 2006 but have recently announced plans to reopen with Marco Zanini at the helm.
- Rodarte
- American brand started by Kate and Laura Mulleavy in 2005 out of Pasadena, California. Known for their whimsical but tough confections, which have been heavy on the knit-wear as of late.
- Rogan Gregory
- CFDA-award winning designer, very focused on being as green as possible - has three clothing lines: Rogan, A Litl Betr and Loomstate, which is based on 100% organic cotton. He's also the creative director of Edun, Ali Hewson and Bono's clothing line that helps promote sustainability in Africa and the man behind Rogan Objects, recycled and sustainable furniture. Fashion's very own mountain man.

- A glamorous Belgrade-born designer who is a graduate of Central Saint Martins and is known for her dresses.
- Ruben Toledo
- Cuban artist and illustrator known for his surrealist style. Used to illustrate advertisements for Nordstrom. Married to his high-school sweetheart and revered fashion designer Isabel Toledo.
- Ruth Finley
- The woman that's put together the Fashion Calendar, a bi-weekly listing of international fashion events that becomes indispensable during Fashion Week, since 1941.
- Sally Singer
- Vogue's brilliant Fashion News & Features Director. She's nice & has great colorful style (and she lives in the Chelsea Hotel).
- Sari Gueron [Officially: SEH-ree geh-RONN; But in the US, you'll most likely hear it as: SAH-ri Ger-ON]
- Israeli born designer, worked for John Galliano and Oscar de la Renta before starting her own line in 2003.
- Sasha Pivovarova

- Scott Schuman
- The man who made it cool to pose with your bike while wearing a great outfit. His blog, The Sartorialist, captures the best outfits from around the world. He photographs for Style.com, has a page in GQ and modeled for the FW '08 Gap campaign.
- Sean Avery
- A professional ice hockey player from Canada, famous as being the "meanest guy in hockey" and a really good dresser. Became even more famous when he sent a letter to Anna Wintour asking for an internship at Vogue, to which she immediately obliged. He interned at Vogue for the summer of 2008, and now has a romantic comedy about his experience coming out sometime in 2010.

- Creative Director of Barneys New York, author, TV personality and disher of fabulous fashion advice. Wishes he landed the part of Nigel in The Devil Wears Prada, even though he loves Anna Wintour.
- Si Newhouse
- Samuel Irving Newhouse Jr., (known simply as "Si"), Chariman and CEO of Advance Publications, the media conglomerate that owns Conde Nast, the publishing company of Vogue, GQ, Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, and so many more. Inherited the company from the Founder, his father, Si Newhouse Sr. Basically the grand daddy of most major magazines.

- Major British stylist, Fashion Director of V Magazine, married to Craig McDean.

- Daughter of Lady Amanda Harlech. Currently stars in Chanel's silent film and studies at Lee Strasberg in New York.
