The Met! The Met!

marc at the met 09.jpgThe big day is finally here and since we have a previous evening commitment, Gossip Girl, we spent the morning with Marc and Anna and Hamish and Harold and even a model or two at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The exhibit itself is spectacular. It opens with life size elephant cut outs and a mannequin wearing Dovima’s Avedon Dior. A hallway of Irving Penns pays tributes to the originals - Suzy Parker, Lisa Fonssagrives, Dorian Leigh and co. There are New Look coats and dresses, Charles James and a Madame Gres. You turn the corner to David Baileys, iconic images of Twiggy and Veruschka wielding her shotgun. Music blares, “Talking ‘bout my generation,” and the mannequins wear Cardins, Paco Rabbanne link dresses and a YSL Mondrian. Then it’s onto Lauren Hutton, Rene Russo, Jerry Hall and unreal Helmut Newton photographs before turning the corner to Versace clad models carrying, seriously, broken champagne bottles. Lastly, the supermodels and the 90s in a graffitied room stocked with Marc Jacobs’ Perry Ellis, Ellen Von Unwerth photography and mind-boggling pictures of Kate.

It’s this room, according to the Costume Institute’s Director Harold Koda, that Anna didn’t feel was “quite grunge enough” late Friday night. And so Oscar winning set director, John Meyer, stayed up Friday and into Saturday, tagging the walls with “Daria,” “Twiggy,” “Kate,” etc in army green, silver and black spray paint - it’s the best part of the whole thing.

Marc said he’s, “honored, flattered, thrilled, grateful to have anything to do with this institution,” and called his involvement, twenty years after his first Met, “a dream come true.” And Koda said he was a pleasure to work with - his only demand that “the exhibit be lively.”

We could gush some more, but basically, the exhibition lives up to the standard set by 06’s Anglomania. So go.

Model Slash Move On

kate moss topshop tea dress.jpgOur world is full of model slash something iterations.

The original, and most common, would be model slash actress: Lauren Hutton, Cybill Sheppard, Cindy Crawford, Elle MacPherson et al. Then came model slash photographer: Ellen von Unwerth, Helena Christensen, Iekeline Stange, ad nauseam. Now we’ve been blessed with a stash of model slash designers which brings us to our point.

To the pretty faces out there making dresses, please spare us from yet another slew of wannabe vintage floral tea dresses. You know who you are, the Gail Elliots, Milla Jovovichs, Erin Wassons and Kate Mosses of the world.

Miss Moss, your Topshop disasters have reached cringe-worthy status. The ditzy, daffodil covered, forties style, matronly, smocks without a dash of cool belong in the back of musty thrift stores, not on high street racks. And you can throw as many super cool Balmain blazers on top of the floral frocks as you like but you’re still a lamb in sheep’s clothing - especially since we know you ordered eight key pieces from Poltock and Walsh this season. Nary a flower in sight, just edgy leopard prints, sharp shoulders and a heavy dose of sexy.

Come on girls, leave the designing to Alexander McQueen. Model slash model can’t be so bad.

Chef Kate

kate moss soup.jpgKate Moss has more creative juices to offer - so she’s decided to write a cookbook.

She has, allegedly, been influenced and encouraged by Sir Philip Green’s step-daughter Stasha whose second cookbook is being released this year.

Stasha’s book consists of traditional Jewish recipes which the Daily Mirror reports Kate’s a fan of - even going so far as to guess she’s whipped up a kosher meal or two for Jamie Hince.

There’s something kind of amazing about a cookbook written by a supermodel and something even more amazing about learning that Kate Moss actually cooks meals.

The only thing better? If she started GOOP II.

Just Cavalli at its End?

kate moss for just cavalli.jpgFact: Ittierre, Just Cavalli’s licensee, recently filed for bankruptcy protection because they ran out of cash.

Fact: Just Cavalli just cancelled their Milan Fashion Week show for next week.

Most likely outcome: Just Cavalli is going out of business?

We don’t know anybody that actually wears Roberto’s subsidiary brand, but more importantly, this would mean less Kate in FOB’s everywhere.

Aw.

Fired for Drugs? A New Job Right Around the Corner!

rosie huntington-whiteley magazine cover.jpgLooks like getting dumped by Burberry for publicly witnessed drug use isn’t the final nail in your coffin if you’re gorgeous enough -

Not only has Kate Moss bounced back nicely from her own incident, but Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who posed for the British brand for only one season before getting the boot due to pictures involving a suspicious pipe accessory, has a new job, too.

Vogue UK reports she’s the new face of DoTheGreenThing.com, a site aimed at helping ordinary people slowly transition into a greener lifestyle. The young beauty poses SJP girly-style with a green dog, which is probably more Lily Cole style than anybody else.

Whose Halloween Party is Kate Moss Hosting?!

kate_moss_topshop_003.jpgYesterday, we heard from a nightclub owner that Kate Moss was hosting an event - somewhere, for someone - next Friday.

Next Friday, of course, is Halloween.

So let’s unravel this trick-or-treating mystery, shall we?

Kate Moss was on the cover of Interview, so it could be their Halloween party. More likely, she’s hosting it for V Magazine, because their Halloween bashes are always legendary to the point of “You’re making that up, I swear.” Or it could be someone she’s contractually obligated to play with: Agent Provocateur, perhaps. Or LVMH.

If you know something we don’t, give us an air kiss at tips@fashionista.com

And if you’re planning on dressing up as a fashion fixture for Halloween, we want to know that too - tell us in the comments section. Two years ago, Faran dressed up as Diane Von Furstenberg, which was all well and good until she showed up at the same party as Diane Von Furstenberg…

Kate Goes On the Telly

kate moss great eyeliner.jpgIf you have the channel BBC2, and are looking for some entertainment to distract you from… the world, you’re in luck.

Kate Moss is set to appear on the first episode of the new series, British Style Genius, alongside Twiggy, Biba founder Barbara Hulanicki, and Sir Philip Green at Arcadia’s London headquarters.

We guess it’s technically reality TV since it’s supposed to be a proper meeting about Topshop, but whatever, we just want to see Kate talk.

Tune in at 9pm London time, otherwise, can someone please put the clip on YouTube?!

Museum Worthy Moss

kate les arts decoratifs.jpgLes Arts Decoratifs, in Paris, will curate an entire exhibit dedicated to Kate Moss: The Myth, in the fall of next year.

“The Myth” refers to her advertising power, though we’d call that something more along the lines of cold hard fact than mythical legend.

According to WWD, the museum, and its curator Pamela Golbin, have just begun work compiling a collection of Kate’s work, but are already having trouble because almost everything is concentrated in the hands of her agency. They’ve, “kept hold of absolutely everything she’s done from the very beginning, including archive material from two decades ago.”

We might be some of Kate’s biggest fans, but even we’ve let go of our stash of 90’s magazines, (though we’ll admit, we think she’s improved significantly with age). We’d love to see the trajectory of her advertising career from Calvin to basically every single luxury brand gathered in one place.

Guess we need to plan another trip to Paris. Damn.

Solid Kate, Not Plated

golden kate.jpgWe sincerely wish we were any of the young children who’ll surely be forced on a field trip to the British Museum this fall.

Why? Because as of today, the museum’s Nereid Gallery includes another version of Marc Quinn’s yoga-pose sculptures of Kate, and this time, it’s made entirely of gold.

Marc, like us, considers Kate to be the Sphinx of today, so naturally, making the first purely gold statue since the time of ancient Egypt, with Kate as subject, makes total sense.

British school children, rejoice. This is a hell of a chance for some great field trip pictures!

Kate Moss Goes To Turkey

Just in case you weren’t sure whether or not you believe modeling is an actual job, let alone hard physical labor, along comes Kate Moss contorting, twisting and sweating her way through a Turkish bath.

The video, of her Mert and Marcus-shot spread for W, makes us want to hop on a plane, drape ourselves in coins and have water thrown all over us by lowly assistants.

Of course, we still wouldn’t look like Kate.

But we could close our eyes and pretend.

Kate Gets Interviewed

kate moss interview cover september 08.jpgIt’s here.

The new Interview, in all its Kate glory.

So of course, we had to share - though we highly suggest picking it up in person. You can’t really appreciate the cover until you shake it around under lights to make the foil cover do a fun little light dance.

Because we’re so in love with you all, we’ve posted Kate’s entire spread, and her interview with Glenn O’Brien, after the jump. (We skipped the Margiela piece because, really, it was an interview with Maison Martin Margiela, not the private Margiela one-on-one we’d hoped for.)

Click through to learn that Kate loves boobs, hates implants, and actually did, yes, think she was too thin back in the day…

Interview Gets Kate, Margiela

interview magazine cover with kate moss.jpgEverybody’s dying to see the full on redesign of Interview since Ingrid Sischy’s replacement by the Glenn O’Brien / Fabien Baron / Christopher Bollen trifecta earlier this year, which starts with the upcoming September issue. And today’s WWD spilled some fun details:

1. The cover girl is Kate Moss, looking a bit like Batman

2. There’s an interview with Maison Martin Margiela, which is a lot like having an interview with Elvis - nearly impossible

3. A new flashback section called “Interview Back Page”, the first of which will feature an interview with Christy Turlington when she was just sixteen

We’re truly happy that Interview’s getting the recognition and extra push it always deserved, and it looks like everyone’s taking notice - their August issue was their best selling in a decade.

We’ll put up Kate’s spread as soon as we can get our hands on it…

Kate Saves Kids

kate moss topshop charity tee.jpgIf you’re looking for a good excuse to buy your millionth t-shirt, here’s one:

The newest batch of Kate Moss’ High Summer collection for Topshop will include a shirt that benefits the Starlight Starbright Children’s Foundation, a charity that benefits seriously ill children.

Kate’s modeling her design at left, which we hope you like. She’s trying to raise £75,000, which will give Starlight the needed funds to grant an additional wish for a terminally ill kid every week for the coming year.

The top launches Friday!

Poltock and Walsh: Topshop Bound?

kate moss in poltuck.jpgOoh, we love happy fashion rumors, and here’s a really good one:

That the up-and-coming British label Poltock and Walsh, known for their kooky-cool take on girly dressing, will do a Topshop diffusion line within the next year.

There’s absolutely no proof this is happening, but there is something interesting:

Yesterday, Kate Moss - arguably Topshop’s biggest ambassador next to, um, us - was spotted wearing a P+W dress to a party.

She looked grown up, modern, and really hot:

Exactly the type of vibe we hope to find when Topshop flings open its NYC doors in October.

Kate & Topshop Forever

kate moss.jpgKate Moss’ High Summer Topshop collection just launched and while we know we’ve reviewed a few collections already, this one caught our eye because:

- We appear to be the only ones still craving new pieces. While Kate should be embarrassed by a couple of the items, I’m madly in love with the Frill Sleeve Dress, Natalie’s obsessed with the Mirrored Hotpant, (if you can’t tell, she has a thing for short shorts), and we both want the Open Side Beaded Top.

- Do the prices look high to you? We know there’s beading involved, but $200 for a Topshop top seems a bit much - especially compared to Kate’s past collections and even the Topshop Unique pieces I used to lust after when I lived down the street from the Kensington High Street store.

- Now that there’s an opening date for our very own Topshop, (a dangerous five blocks from our office), we’re starting to wonder just how many collections Kate’s contracted to design. As in, will she ever run out of vintage clothes to mass produce?

Anything catch your eye?

Rumor Mill: Lily for Kate?

kate moss so young.jpgSo here’s the most fun/awful rumor of the day -

The reason Kate Moss was missing from Saturday night’s Life Ball in Vienna - the annual runway show/party that raises money for AIDS research, for which Kate was set to be the sort-of-face via Agent Provocateur’s sponsorship - is pretty simple. Apparently, she “just bailed”.

So the Agent people did a last-minute switch, which ended up with Lily Cole taking Kate’s place, which inexplicably involved a leather catsuit (of course, Faran’s made sure we all get to see Lily in it, Vienna or not).

Next logical rumor: Lily for Agent? But what would her Political Geography 401 professors say?!
