At least one company's so annoyed with getting knocked off that they're taking serious anti-counterfeiting measures -
Rather than relying on police cracking down on fakes, Loro Piana's decided to make their goods un-fakeable.
They've created their own metal ring bearing the Loro Piana logo that'll be sewn into each of their cashmere products. The rings will be engraved with an identifying serial number that can be used to trace the origins of each product, down to which piece of fabric it was cut from and which batch of yarn was used to weave its raw fiber.
We think their initiative is great, even though we think it would be fairly easy for a counterfeiter to just throw any old number onto a metal ring to make the scarf appear genuine at first glance, but then again, maybe the process would just be too expensive to make the fakes worth it.
(In other counterfeit news, we hear Forever 21 is about to be embroiled in a huge fake-related battle - a tipster says an LA lawyer is "representing a handful of names bringing some big suits against them" - care to take some guesses?)

Attention, fashion planners:
We have it on good authority that Marc Jacobs didn't love his Friday night lights last season, and he'll be moving his show back to its traditional time slot, on Monday night at 7 pm / 8 pm / 9 pm / 4 am / your guess is as good as ours.
Marc and Robert Duffy famously pushed their show forward to the last Friday of February's Fashion Week, in order to give themselves more time to finish the collection. In fact, their latest show started so promptly that editors who were even 10 minutes late to the spectacle got shut out of the production, which included a lot of cable knit cream stuff, and also Sonic Youth performing.
It'll be fun to see when the show starts this season, but there's one thing for certain:
Everyone will show up promptly 10 minutes before the show says it will start, even if it ends up running much later.
And as usual, we are already so stoked.

This just in from a source:
The mystery face of the upcoming Vogue Italia is none other than the statuesque Iman!
She'll be surrounded by some other models (surely just a group of out-of-focus guys, er, girls), and now we're betting there'll be at least one picture of her and Chanel Iman together, hopefully wearing Chanel.
We're hoping this isn't just another rumor -
But we guess we'll see.

I used to live in the West Village, and let me tell you, walking past Magnolia bakery on your way to and from work every day is disastrous. The last thing in the world I would have needed is a free cupcake.
But now that I live in Brooklyn and have lost the ten pounds I gained during that six month sublet, I can't think of anything better.
Only catch is, in order to get your free cupcake, you have to buy something at the newly opened Coach store down the street.
This is bad because it means supporting the outdoor mall that now lives on Bleecker, but good because you can get cute shoes (without c's please) and a delicious pink cupcake.
Just please don't eat it on Carrie Bradshaw's stoop.

Karl Lagerfeld's new line of handbags and luggage will be produced by the Accessory Network Group and debut in Fall 09.
And in lieu of Lady Amanda Harlech, Lagefeld's striking muse at Chanel, the designer will be inspired by himself.
The bags will go so far as to have his initials woven into the quilted designs and the CEO of ANG sounds thrilled, "There's so much potential with the Lagerfeld line because Karl himself is endlessly inspiring."
We've always thought of Karl as a sort of king of branding, but we're guessing this is exactly what he meant when he answered questions at the Met Ball regarding which superhero he was channeling and he repeatedly answered, "Karl Lagerfeld."

Stephanie Seymour is working overtime these days.
First, she was named the face of the French lingerie brand Chantelle, then she did an amazing spread for V followed by an entire issue of Pop that was literally too steamy for our front page, then she was named contributing fashion editor at Interview (we are anxiously awaiting for her interview with Alaia - you know it has to happen), and then she shot a Gap campaign alongside Shalom.
So what's left?
A catalog, apparently. Saks' fall preview book will feature Stephanie as the only model for all 63 pages, shot by Nathaniel Goldberg, Sebastián Faena and Jamie Isaia.
Memo to Vogue: She obviously wants to work a lot again, so please book her way in advance for next year's shape issue. You know she's the best choice!

A source just filled us in on our newest love,
Arlenis, Mystery Girl.
The Marilyn model's been working for just two weeks, and she's already on the verge of blowing up.
She met with W yesterday, is being shot for Vogue US this week, and has already done a spread with Testino.
Oh, and she's definitely in the upcoming Vogue Italia - twice. She scored one spread all by herself, and another alongside Jourdan, Chanel and Alek Wek.
The Dominican cutie was also spotted hanging with the models at the Met Ball Monday night, some people even say she looked better than most of the girls there...
And to think, we still have no idea what her last name is.

You might be able to turn all that Met Ball office banter into some actual cash -
Vogue just announced their first ever Viewer's Choice Awards for the clothes we've all seen a zillion times since Monday night.
Starting Friday, you can log on to the Vogue.tv site and vote for your favorite look from the gala, and enter to win two round trip tickets to a $2,500 shopping spree at J. Mendel and two nights at the Lowell Luxury Hotel in NYC.
You have until May 16, but if you think that's a tough deadline, just think of poor Alexandra Kotur who has to manage the politics of the ten best dressed by Monday morning.
Our votes?
Britt can't decide between Christina Ricci and Lou Doillon, Brett likes Zac/Kate Mara and Kate Bosworth, and Natalie thinks both Christina Ricci and Julie Gilhart walked the ball attire/superhero line to great effect.
You?

Jerry Kaye, former creative director for Perry Ellis,
has just been named head designer for Dr. Martens.
That's probably the most sensible fashion appointment we've ever heard.
Kaye came on as Men's fashion director at Ellis in 1993, the same year Marc Jacobs was fired, and stayed up until 2005 when he launched his own consulting firm working with clients like Levi's.
Hartmarx, the company that owns Dr. Marten's and hopes to expand into ready-to-wear, chose Kaye because of his "vast experience in taking heritage brands and making them modern and relevant in today's marketplace."
We're still waiting for our new docs to arrive in the mail, (they're a gift and we'll be scribbling all over them), and now we'll also be waiting to see Kaye's take on the classic shoe.
The question is, will we actually wear them?

Sad news in the world of campaigns:
We hear that Scott Schuman, the marvelous photographer behind The Sartorialist, has been cut from the upcoming Gap ads.
The story of how / why is unclear, but it's obviously and angrily because he's just too damn handsome to star in a photo spread about chinos.
We look forward to seeing the fantastic Mr. Schuman recast in another slew of commercial pictures -
Maybe he can be the Mac, and Fashionista can be the PC, in the next round of Apple hype.
We love you, Scott!
xoxo Fashionista.

Awesome fashion question to follow last night's awesome Agent Provocateur party:
Is Daisy Lowe getting recast in the A.P. ads this Fall?!
We really hope the rumor is true, because Daisy is not only a very cool girl, but she's a girl with a very healthy, incredible body, and one that could proudly represent young women in a campaign for sexy, powerful, cool girls.
There's only one question:
How will Daisy handle her new job as a TV talk show hostess with her upcoming campaign duties as the face of one of Britain's biggest and coolest brands?
Multitasking works best in ruffled panties, yes?

It looks like nobody can get enough of contests lately.
Givenchy's teamed up with social advertising site Brickfish to bring us the latest think-of-it-yourself beauty campaign for their bestselling Prisme Foundation Compact.
Those with a serious love for collectible beauty products, or those with a ton of time on their hands, are asked to come up with a "sassy slogan" for the compact, which will be printed right into the foundation of actual compacts should you think of something cute enough.
The person with the wittiest sentence, chosen by Givenchy's judges, will receive copies of the actual compact printed with their slogan to keep or to give out (or sell on eBay?) and a year's supply of Givenchy products worth $3,000.
Submit your entries on the campaign's site to enter - you have until June 16.
We think our readers could do particularly well - so far the entries are mostly of the "Be You, Always" variety.
Our vote for the best so far? "Right angles rarely occur in nature".

It's no secret we have a little crush on Ally Hilfiger.
(1. Her name is Alexandria, which is like super British and intellectual. 2. Her smile is huge. 3. She can't make burritos. 4. She has two Basquiats in her Tribeca apartment...).
So when the heiress announced she was doing a line of t-shirts with Izzy Gold, the scenester/ dj/ artist/ whatever, we were pretty stoked.
Except, well... she's not doing them any more.
We heard at a fashion party this weekend that la petite Hilfiger is no longer working with Izzy on t-shirts, and is focusing instead on her painting, at least for the moment.
How that union dissolved, we have no idea, but somehow, we imagine it happened in the VIP room of a midtown nightclub.

Spotted:
Margherita and Theresa Missoni, smoking in a black town car on the corner of 2nd Street and Avenue B.
They were being shown around a property by Jared Seligman, the BFF of Jessica Stam and broker for most models in Manhattan, and they looked very interested.
Could the Missoni babes be moving to the Village, even after Margherita claimed she was done with New York?
If so, we'll know soon enough - that condo is three minutes away from Faran's apartment.

Though the Miller sisters' clothing line, Twenty8Twelve, has been more successful than the usual celebrity clothing line, (probably because Savannah's a real designer),
they're branching out to the more lucrative realm of accessories.
So far they've done scarves, gloves and bags and we're hoping shoes aren't far.
The sisters said their inspiration for their simple but colorful collection was Dylan Thomas' poetry.
However, the bags named in WWD are called the Harlech, the Lezark, and the Jezebel.
Did we skip that Dylan Thomas poem in AP English?

We hear that Madonna will eschew some of her Dolce + Gabbana costumes on her tour for those by Ricardo Tisci, the head designer at Givenchy.
Madge will wear some ready-to-wear pieces by the French house helmed by the Italian designer, and also some of their recent couture collection.
The singer has already been spotted out and about in heaps of Givenchy clothes - here she is in People Magazine, getting called out on her severely chic ensemble.
Another link to the label made famous by Breakfast at Tiffany's?
Justin Timberlake is the new face of Givenchy's men's perfume and the latest pop star to collaborate with Madonna on a hit song.

Apparently, having a number one single on iTunes isn't enough for some girls - they also have to design clothes.
That's the word from the UK, where the super-cute Leona Lewis has announced her latest project: a vegan clothing line made with cruelty-free materials.
Lewis has been a vegetarian since she was twelve, and doesn't wear leather or fur - though judging from a quick Google Image search, pleather is totally okay, especially if it comes in a tight cut and a sparkly, metallic color.
In fact, maybe Lewis' line can be the antidote to Natalie Portman's own vegan collection, a series of shoes for Te Casan that are priced from $200 - $500. If we can get a pair of vegan black ballet flats for $30, we are so game - especially if, unlike Stella McCartney's, they don't fall apart after two weeks.

We're not the only ones worried about
Elle's massive shake-up this month.
Project Runway's allegedly looking to partner with a new magazine for season six, which, by the way, will officially be taped in Los Angeles.
WWD reports their choice is likely to be Marie Claire which we find strange considering Marie Claire isn't exactly a fashion authority. But it is owned by the same parent company as Lifetime, which can't hurt their chances. The collaboration, however, is likely to do more for the magazine than for the show.
In other Project Runway news, one of our favorite, and arguably most successful, designer alumns, Alison Kelly, is launching a new line for Brooklyn boutique Alter and they're throwing a shopping launch party this Thursday night on Greenpoint's Franklin Avenue.
Christian, meet Alison.

Hedi Slimane doing jeans for Diesel might not be the most shocking rumor out there, but it does leave us wondering when denim lines became the new Target.
Though rumors of a Slimane/Diesel collaboration have been circulating for a while, WWD sounds confident the project will materialize soon. Apparently, Diesel owner Renzo Rosso aims to court an even more exclusive customer with the new Red Collection.
We hope the collection includes jeans for girls, too - and that they're not so skinny we can't wiggle our way into them.
So now, Alber's at Acne, Hedi's at Deisel, and Marc's already done Wrangler - how about Luella for 18th Amendment?
May 02, 2008 @ 9:30am

Not only is everybody sort of obsessed with superheroes right now due to the Met Ball's choice of theme this year, but it looks like the idea has stuck with at least one designer in the longer term sense.
Diane von Furstenberg's creating a capsule collection for the holiday season in collaboration with DC Comics - the line will be loosely based on Wonder Woman.
The clothes will involve lots of stars and a few dabs of sequins - but she promises it will all be totally wearable.
But apparently DVF's fascination with Wonder Woman predates the announcement of this year's Met Ball theme - she says she's kept a picture of the comic heroine in her notebook for years, and her staff even once gave her a framed photo of herself in the likeness of Wonder Woman as a gift.
Since Diane's dressing the Olsen twins for Monday's soiree, we're kind of hoping she's used the occasion as a jump start on designing her holiday collection. MK + A in bustiers and little capes?
We're so there.

Michelle Trachtenberg's
newest role as Georgina Sparks on Gossip Girl has her working overtime.
America's next favorite villainess is also now a blogger for Cosmo's website.
Her first post is already up, and it's pretty clear that the space will largely be devoted to rehashing what she wore on set, and, of course, to plugging her own jewelry line, Bella Veritas, which she'll probably wear on every episode from now on.
We're kind of hoping she'll design a poison ring for certain scenes with Blair, but we'll see.

While we put the finishing touches on our "Team Ali" t-shirts, here's some more news about our favorite young model:
She'll appear on The Today Show in June, supposedly with Teen Vogue's Amy Astley, to discuss body image and fashion.
The segment will focus on an upcoming Teen Vogue shoot with the Texas model, where she discusses her experiences in Paris and how they varied when she went from 100 lbs to 105 lbs.
Some of our friends in the industry pointed out that several other girls were also excluded from many runway shows because of their size, but Ali is the only one who's been vocal about it.
It's a tricky issue, especially since the majority of Americans have health issues because of obesity, not because of skinny models. And yet, the standards set by the fashion industry have huge ramifications on the rest of pop culture, and therefore the rest of youth culture.
Thankfully, Ali seems smart enough to discuss the whole thing gracefully. Good luck, babe.

A lot of people like to say that New York City is the fifth character, or "lady", on
Sex and the City.
We never knew if that was sweet or corny as hell, but here's what we do know - against all logic, the SATC movie is not premiering in New York City (as our British friends at Catwalk Queen have been speculating for a while now), and not because it's first coming out at Cannes.
No, it's premiering in London, at Leicester Square, on May 12, two weeks before anyone in NYC can see it. Why? We have no idea.
There's still going to be a huge party at Radio City Music Hall on May 27, but will it be the same after our overseas friends send us taunting e-mails and voice messages about everything that happens?
May 01, 2008 @ 9:02am
The last time we heard about a semi-celebrity cameo on Gossip Girl, it made perfect sense - Lydia Hearst is a bonafide UES socialite herself, and to say that she'll be "acting" on the show is almost a funny stretch.
But now we're hearing about a much funnier cameo, possibly airing this Monday - Lisa Loeb.
Apparently, Rufus' band, Lincoln Hawk, one of the "best forgotten bands of the 90's, will play at some kind of reunion concert at which Lisa Loeb will undoubtedly perform "Stay" while perched atop a lone stool.
We're praying she has lines.
Get ready for fake glasses everywhere!
