The child support battle between Linda Evangelista and her former flame and PPR chief François-Henri Pinault hit the courts yesterday in New York City, and the exes have already started in with the mudslinging. According to the New York Daily News , Evangelista’s lawyers told the court that “[Pinault] suggested [Evangelista] terminate the pregnancy.” Yikes.

Pinault’s spokesperson denied that he ever told her to have an abortion, and said that he told her, “I will take my responsibility.” If that’s true, why hasn’t he paid any child support?

The Met Ball is this Monday, and obviously we can’t wait to see who will be in attendance and what everyone will be wearing to fashion prom.

Excitement reached a fever pitch at last night’s fancy Balmain dinner, where we got to rub shoulders with the label’s young designer Oliver Rousteing, Anthony Vaccarello, and models Arizona Muse, Constance Jablonksi, Kasia Struss and Karlie Kloss. Of course, all anyone could talk about was Monday’s big event–though both Vaccarello and Rousteing said they were “nervous” to walk the red carpet amidst such a media frenzy.

We got the dish on who Rousteing and Vaccarello will be taking and what they’ll be wearing, but we’re not the only ones who’ve been doing our detective work: Over the past few days, lots of tidbits have been filtering in about the big event.

So, without further ado, here is everything we know (so far) about the Met Ball:

Another fashion house creative director job is up for grabs, in case you know anyone who’s interested. Manish Arora, Paco Rabanne‘s artistic director for the past two seasons, has left the label, WWD is reporting.

This is sort of a surprising development, because while Arora’s first space-aged, Mugler-inspired collection for the label in spring 2012 received mixed reviews, his fall 2012 collection was more favorably received and much more wearable. Lady Gaga famously wore his out-there spring designs shortly after Arora’s first show (which is obviously a different scenario than if say, Kate Middleton wears your clothes) and J. Lo just sported a top from the spring collection on American Idol. This doesn’t necessarily mean that the clothes are moving at retail, but celeb buzz for a label is nothing to sneeze at. So why is he leaving?

As far as we can tell, Beth Ditto is one of the coolest people ever. The talented and stylish Gossip frontwoman is beloved by just about everyone–especially fashion people. And for good reason.

From gracing the first issue of Love (naked) to sitting front row at major runway shows, to walking in them, to performing at fashion parties, Ditto, who doesn’t quite conform to the industry’s typical beauty standards, has been described by Katie Grand as “an accidental size hero for the size zero” and “a generational icon, confounding the tedious stereotypes of what it is to be a wonderful 21st-century woman.” She also has great perspective and we love what she said in a recent interview with the Evening Standard about that time Karl Lagerfeld said fellow plus-size songstress Adele was “a little too fat”:

Photo: GettyEveryone’s favorite fashionable nonagenarian just added yet another category to her growing fashion empire: handbags. The line will sell in department stores and, like its designer, it sounds…eccentric, to say the least.

First of all, it’s called ‘Extinctions.’ Why? Apfel’s business partner, Lisa Nunziata told WWD, “When I met Iris, I told her I’m the last of a dying breed, and she shot back, ‘If you’re the end of a dying breed, then I must be extinct.’” And voila.

Also, the bags are made of exotic materials like Mongolian lamb, calf hair and snakeskin, though they’re priced pretty reasonably at $228-$398. They chose the shape of a dodo bird for the hang tags. “It’s an odd bird, like me,” Apfel told the trade. And judging by these photos, the bags will fit in with Apfel’s more-is-more aesthetic. i-D‘s Lights, Camera, Action issue is hitting newsstands May 10, and who better to grace one of its eight covers than fashion’s man of the moment, Raf Simons?

The designer has certainly had his share of ups and downs as of late. After allegedly being “unceremoniously dumped” from Jil Sander to make way for the return of its founder, Simons bid a tearful farewell at his final runway show for the label in Milan. Weeks later, Simons was named creative director at Dior, ending a year of speculation over who would finally succeed John Galliano.

Now, he’s peeking from behind a patch of grayed out blooms on the cover of i-D, with the fitting caption “It’s Show Time.” Indeed. He’s also speaking up about his final (gorgeous) collection for Jil Sander. Read more »

Remember Tracy Feith? The designer was an early favorite of Michelle Obama’s, his Target collection was a hit, and he had standalone boutiques in New York and L.A…until he inexplicably fell off the face of the earth back in 2010. His boutiques closed and it turned out he owed over $200,000 to landlords in NYC and Montauk.

While we still don’t know the reason behind his mysterious disappearance from the fashion business, the designer seems to be making a comeback. For real.

They may not agree on everything, but the 19 international editors of Vogue are in assent on at least on topic: The health and wellbeing of models and readers alike. To that end, all of them have recently banded together to promote healthier body image within the industry and beyond in a Vogue-wide Health Initiative, to be unveiled in Vogue UK’s June issue.

The new initiative will make several efforts to improve models’ working conditions, as well as promote healthier body images for readers. While the language in the new manifesto, which was posted on Vogue Italia, is a bit noncommittal at times, the new initiative is without a doubt a step in the right direction–and it should make a big impact on the kind of models and editorials we see in the magazines.

Has anyone else noticed how ridiculously flawless Leelee Sobieski has been looking lately? Her recent onslaught of red carpet sartorial perfection has been a frequent topic of discussion for us–how long has she been such a style icon and why haven’t we noticed it until now?

The gorgeous actress has been out and about a bit more frequently, most likely to promote her forthcoming series NYC 22, in which she plays a cop. Perhaps distraught by the fact that she has to spend most of her work days in a NYPD uniform, she has really been stepping up her fashion game lately–from that major white Jil Sander moment at the Tribeca Film Festival Vanity Fair party to her ridiculously chic blush Chanel look. She even looked amazing while throwing out the first pitch at a Mets game last week.

So when did this start? Maybe in 2010, when she married menswear designer Adam Kimmel. Read more »
