Intern-al Knowledge: 10 Must-Read, Unconventional Tips on How to Get the Fashion Internship of Your Dreams

Anyone who works in fashion will tell you that internships are an invaluable part of any resumé. It’s probably the number one piece of advice given to anyone looking to break into this industry. And truly, internships are amazing–if you know how to find them, that is!

If you’re still in college (lucky!), finding an internship can be infinitely easier; since most internships require an ability to receive school credit, the options are vast. Depending on your school, there will be a number of traditional resources available to you, such as job fairs, career resources centers, and alumni networks. These are the places you should check with first, as you may not have to go any further.

But what if your school is lacking in the connections you need? Or, even more challenging, what if you aren’t enrolled in college? This is where you have to get crafty. No worries – we’re here to help! Read on for our advice on jumping over the roadblocks to score the internship of your dreams.

Karen Elson is Told by Daniel Tosh Fan She ‘Needs to be Raped’ After Criticizing the Comedian

Karen Elson is Told by Daniel Tosh Fan She ‘Needs to be Raped’ After Criticizing the Comedian

In case you missed it, earlier this week comedian Daniel Tosh told an audience member that it would be funny if she got raped “by like, five guys” after she interrupted the comedian’s set to tell him that the rape jokes he was already making weren’t actually funny. But, as comedians seem to forget, what happens in the comedy club doesn’t always stay in the comedy club, and the woman’s blog post about the incident quickly went viral, with websites like Jezebel picking up the story. While some comedians have stepped up to Tosh’s defense, the incident mostly drew the ire of the public at large. Even fashion people like Karen Elson took note. The model voiced her reaction on Twitter saying, “Daniel Tosh didn’t get the memo that it [rape] never was and never will be funny.”

Apparently, Tosh has some rabid fans, because within hours Elson received a number of pretty nasty responses. An example? “@KarenElson_ Needs to be raped, she might lighten up after getting some for once.”

Fashionista Turns Five! Fashionista’s First Editor, Faran Krentcil, Takes a Look Back

Believe it or not, Fashionista turns five years old this month. Which is, you know, pretty old in blog years. To celebrate our big bday, we’ve asked all of Fashionista’s former editors (in chronological order that’s Faran Krentcil, Natalie Hormilla, Abby Gardner, Britt Aboutaleb, and Lauren Sherman) to reflect back on their time at Fashionista from the highs (seeing a Chanel show) to the lows (being chewed out by Arianne Phillips for leaking her fashion week plans and costing her a client).

First up, the girl who started it all, the inimitable Faran Krentcil, who is now Nylon’s digital director.

To Begin With: Everything.

Some people think I started Fashionista from my bedroom with a pinch of magic, an overdose of ambition, and some Skittles. That’s not really what happened. Not even close.

For the most part (save Piper Perabo, Sarah Michelle Geller and Tilda Swinton of course–we salute you girls!), celebrities played it safe in shimmering blush and champagne colored columns. Of course, safe doesn’t mean not pretty (see: Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace) and black doesn’t mean boring (see Rooney Mara in Nina Ricci).

Click through for our picks for best dressed at the Golden Globes accompanied by our favorite tweets from fashion folks (see: Robin Givhan, “charlize theron in Dior Couture looking fabulous. who needs a creative director?”).
