Antipodium Resort 2012: Uniform With A Hint Of Kink

With an armful of organza and shrimp-printed dresses, Geoffrey Finch of Antipodium London headed stateside last month to show off his uniquely wearable brand. With “the shirtdress always at the core of the collection,” Finch has moved from fall’s gaucho influence to polished Sydney hipster for resort, offering extremely layer-able pieces in a full range of neutrals and a pièce de résistance green that he considers “a bit clinical.” Each season, the designer enlists the help of an illustrator friend to create his prints, which “have sort of a cult following.” For resort, Finch consulted fellow Aussie Karl Maier, who created textiles featuring an awkwardly endearing shrimp.

Finch is well acquainted with multitasking, a trait that’s evident in the versatile pieces he designs for Antipodium. “There’s always a hint of kink with a uniform element,” Finch said of his signature aesthetic. For resort, he’s created oversize boxy blazers, fluid silk button downs and linear organza skirts, all of which can be effortlessly mixed and matched to your chic heart’s desire.

Imitation Resort 2012: In the Style of Tara Subkoff

For Resort 2012, Imitation designer Tara Subkoff went back to her cinematic roots, directing a short silent film starring a glittering bevy of it-girls, from Becka Diamond to Nicole Trunfio, Lissy Trullie, Karima Adebibe, and Cecile Winckler.

Many of these same ladies–as well as requisite sexy actors Marc Ruffalo and Liev Schrieber–mixed and mingled at the Jane Hotel’s bar last night, where Subkoff showed the short in a continual loop. (Charlotte Ronson, Chrissie Miller, Shanea Grimes, Sky Ferreira, Karen Elson, and Jen Brill were there, too.)

Several were wearing the Imitation resort/holiday line, a collection of flouncy dresses and high-waisted trousers, all with a vintage feel.

Eva Mendes, Freida Pinto and Scott Speedman Turn Out For Ferragamo’s Wildly Extravagant Resort Show

Today is a good day for Ferragamo. The label debuted on the Milan stock exchange this morning to a strong showing. Yesterday afternoon, the storied 83-year-old Florence house presented their first ever show in the US. And, almost as if Ferragamo knew they’d richer the next day, they pulled out all the stops for this resort show.

Ferragamo presented their 2012 resort collection in the grandest of settings–the James B Duke mansion on New York’s upper east side, former home to heiress Doris Duke. (It’s now owned by NYU and houses an art history library for grad students–the space is reason enough to apply.) Models descended from a marble staircase (not an easy feat in sky high platform wedges) as a bevy of A-list celebrities–including Eva Mendes, Frieda Pinto, Emma Roberts and Scott Speedman (who was there with girlfriend Theresa Palmer, creepy stalker photo proof below)–watched on.

The Little Trend That Could: A Look At How Color Blocking Dominated the Resort Collections

If you’ve flipped through any fashion magazine this past spring, it’s safe to assume that you would have come across an editorial featuring color blocking. Now that the resort 2012 collections are coming to a close, it’s become obvious that this trend is not going anywhere–in fact, it seems to be more popular than ever.

More specifically, we’ve noticed it on countless short dresses. And why not? Resort collections seem like the perfect place for fun, easy, and colorful clothing. In fact, many of the looks show few additional accessories, presenting them as ideal for simple, no-fuss dressing.

Whether through fringe, fabric or sequins, expect to see plenty of color-blocking in the next year. Click through to see highlights from the resort collections.

Tucker Blair and Opening Ceremony Collaborate on Needlepoint Belts

Tucker Blair is a Washington, D.C.-based line of uber-preppy needlepoint belts and headbands–the kind worn by women named Muffy who summer in Martha’s Vineyard and bear lacrosse-playing children. Blair’s wares are certainly cute, but perhaps not the first line one would consider fitting in with Opening Ceremony. A store that features stuff by Chloe Sevigny and Alexander Wang hardly screams Cape Cod.

But that’s the brilliance of Opening Ceremony. Needlepoint belts and Band of Outsiders blazers sit seamlessly with Delfina Delettrez jewelry and Nicholas Kirkwood shoes.

Comprised of five hand-sewn leather belts, this unisex line is totally wearable.

Ohne Titel Resort 2012: The Standards

Once a hip, in-demand brand’s been around for a couple of years, buyers begin to expect a bridge between Fall and Winter collections. Resort provides this connection. It means more work and more challenges, but it also means a rounder, fuller year in terms of sales as well as design scope.

Flora Gill and Alexa Adams of Ohne Titel are at this pivotal point. Buyers are demanding more of them, but how does such a young brand launch a resort collection? For Gill and Adams, the extension means taking their most admired pieces and making them fresh for the season. I wouldn’t call the selection a group of classics, but rather standards.

Pedro Lourenço Resort 2012: The Designer Looks To His Native Brazil for Inspiration, Responds to Naysayers Who Say He’s Too Young

SAO PAULO–Wunderkind designer Pedro Lourenço (he’s just 21) presented his resort collection at Sao Paulo fashion week this past week. It’s his first resort collection and the first time he’s ever shown his designs in his hometown even though both his parents are designers there–he showed his first two collections in Paris to much critical acclaim.

Lourenço presented his collection a la runway shows of yore (and Tom Ford last year): in an intimate setting in the back room of a luxe hotel in Sao Paulo, Lourenço stood in the center of the room with a microphone and described each look in his collection, one model at a time. Occasionally Lourenço would forget a detail, and ask the model to come scurrying back and turn her around to show off a particular seam or fabric.

Of course, I was inferring all of this as Lourenço presented his collection in Portuguese (luckily he was on hand to translate later). But it was easy to tell just from looking at the clothes that they were a slight departure from his past two leather-heavy collections.

Rachel Comey’s Resort 2012 Look Book is Freaking Me Out a Little

As big Rachel Comey fans, we were super excited to see what she had in store for resort. We ended up getting more than we bargained for with this gem of a look book.

Unfortunately, the clothes were a little difficult to pay attention to at first given all the other weird things going on in each photograph, such as:

-Little sleeping masks made of red and blue doilies
-Smurf-esque bright orange cartoon hair with seafoam green eyeshadow and what looks like a sunflower beard
-An inexplicable fringe face mask
-A model brushing her face with a very large feather
-A model sitting in a chair and staring into a bowling ball
-A model gently holding a prosthetic hand for no apparent reason
-Several models just making creepy poses with their backs to the camera
