Decades’s Cameron Silver on Which Designers to Invest in Now, and How Chinese Shoppers are Changing Vintage

Is there a better chronicler of fashion history and all-around-beloved fashion personality than Cameron Silver? As the new star of Bravo’s Dukes of Melrose, Silver, the man most credited with making it cool to wear old clothes and co-owner of Los Angeles vintage emporium Decades, now has the adulation of a nationwide and global audience.

At a Vidal Sassoon Pro Series event last week, Silver exhibited his usual charm as we talked about vintage history, how more informed consumers have affected his business, and which modern designers he sees as having vintage appeal.

I test out a lot of fragrances, but only a few find their way into my refrigerator. (Sidebar: One time one of the perfumers from Le Labo, who happens to be very cute and charismatic, told me I should store all my perfumes in the fridge and I’ve done it ever since. It’s next to the yogurt.)

Meet Carlos Bell, Star of Tonight’s Episode of The Job with Joanna Coles–and Hear His Inspiring Tale of Fashion Hustle

We have a confession to make: We are on tonight’s episode of The Job, a new CBS reality show hosted by Lisa Ling (my journalism crush). It’s our reality TV debut!

The premise of the show is this: five candidates compete for the same job and jump through a bunch of hoops to try to get hired. The sought-after job on tonight’s episode is an editorial assistant position at Joanna Coles’s Cosmo. We are one of three “guest companies” (along with Who What Wear and Archetype Me) that can try to poach one of the candidates. You’re going to just have to watch to see how it all pans out.

But we wanted to introduce you to one of the candidates, 25-year-old Carlos Bell. His story is so inspiring, his fashion hustle so great, we just had to share. Read on to find out how he landed his first internship at GQ (and commuted 10 hours a day to get there) and what he’s up to next.
