Domino is Back

Wednesday, Feb 8, 2012 / 3:30 PM

Domino, which folded in 2009, once topped a list of most missed magazines (Sassy would’ve topped our list but we get it, people like their home decor). Occasionally magazines do get resurrected, so those of you who hoped that would be the case for this recession victim will be pleased to hear you could be reading Domino again as soon as April. Alexander Wang is Expanding Eastward: Alex Wang is breaking the typical fashion business expansion mould (West followed by Eastern markets) with plans to open fourteen locations in Asia in the next year. The designer, who has no plans yet to open any more US stores (he currently has only one in NYC) says he has seen “the progression” of fashion in China years after his mom tried to (lovingly) pressure him into moving there. Wang’s 4,000-sq-ft Beijing flagship store will open its doors next month. {WWD}

Are Adam Levine and Anne V. Dunzo? Rumor has it that genetically-blessed couple Adam and Anne have parted ways after two years of unwedded bliss. The Maroon 5 star was looking “really heartbroken” at a Super Bowl party. Hm. {NY Post}

South Park Strips Down for Marc Jacobs: Following in the nudie footsteps of Victoria Beckham and Naomi Campbell, the cast of South Park have stripped down for some Marc Jacobs tees benefitting The Interdisciplinary Melanoma Cooperative Group at NYU. Thankfully, Muscle Man Marc’s former co-stars have some strategically placed lettering preserving their modesty on the $35 tees – which are really, really funny. {WWD}

After four years of dispatching fashion news with her signature biting humor, Amy Odell is leaving The Cut. She’s been poached by BuzzFeed editor-in-chief Ben Smith, WWD reported this morning. She’ll run a vertical geared towards women that is set to launch in March. We spoke with both Odell and Smith to get the scoop on the new venture.

We’ve been reading The Cut for years and can’t really imagine it without her, though Odell assures us the site will “still be great. There are so many great people working there.”

Odell has such a distinct voice, which we’ll look forward to continuing to read over at BuzzFeed, though in what capacity we’re not entirely sure. “It’s going to be a women’s interest site [and] fashion is going to figure in but it’s not going to be the only thing,” Odell told us. “It’s going to be something that’s in my voice and my taste–not even my taste in terms of fashion but in terms of things we cover.”

“We haven’t ironed out all the details,” BuzzFeed’s editor-in-chief Ben Smith told us over the phone. “[But] Amy is going to have a big role in defining it. It’s really going to be built around her voice.”

Now we know how Michelle Obama gets those famous arms!

The First Lady filmed a segment for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, in promotion of her Let’s Move campaign, which encourages kids to get off the couch and be more active. To that end, MObama and Fallon engage in an old-school gym-style competition, duking it out in categories like tug-of-war, push-ups, dodgeball and a potato sack race–and let’s just say that Michelle more than holds her own against Jimmy, breezing through the push-up challenge and chucking a ball in the TV show host’s face during Dodgeball.

Is Victor Cruz, the New York Giants’ crowd-pleasing salsa-dancing super-adorable wide receiver, fashion’s newest obsession?

It sure seems like it. WWD just tweeted that Cruz will cut the ribbon to kick off Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week later today.

He’s also snagged a contract with IMG.

Are you ready for New York Fashion Week? Next Paris models Abbey Lee, Aline Weber, Anja Rubik, Arizona Muse, Hailey Clauson, Karlie Kloss, Lou Doillon (and many more) certainly are.

In this new NYFW pump-up video, directed by Sebastien Haddouk & Julien Gallico, the Next Paris models pose and primp in front of an imaginary mirror, dance like crazy, smell their pits and just kind of freak out in general. In other words, it’s exactly what goes on in our apartments before fashion week gets underway. Except, of course, we’re not supermodels–and sadly, unlike Karlie Kloss, we’re not sure we could pull off that slit-to-there Anthony Vaccarello dress quite so elegantly. (Seriously, does she live in that thing?)

Last night Anna Wintour and Scarlett Johansson hosted “Runway to Win,” the fundraising event in support of Obama’s re-election campaign. Some fairly big-name fashion people attended, including model trio-of-the-moment Karlie Kloss, Chanel Iman, and Joan Smalls. Designers like Diane von Furstenberg, Tory Burch and Alexander Wang also all took time out from what is probably their busiest time of the year to come out to support Obama. You’ll recall that a slew of them designed items like totes and tees for Obama’s campaign.

But not everyone is responding well to fashion’s (or more specifically, Anna Wintour’s) call to arms for Obama.

2011 did not end on a good note for magazines. According to Audit Bureau of Circulations, the industry was down an average of 10 percent, WWD is reporting.

And that’s not even the worst of it. Some fashion titles fell much harder.

There have been rumors, and Kanye all but confirmed it on Twitter, but now we know with certainty that we can look forward to (or dread) a second Kanye West collection and runway show. Karla Otto, Kanye West’s PR agency, confirmed to WWD that West will show at 9.30 p.m. on March 6. The venue has yet to be confirmed.

Last night loads of leggy models–A-listers like Shalom Harlow, Doutzen Kroes, Coco Rocha and Crystal Renn among them–gathered at the Standard in the Meatpacking to sip free vodka drinks over loud music. At first glance, a typical fashion party.

Only it wasn’t. These models were gathered to celebrate the launch of the Model Alliance, a non-profit organization founded by Sara Ziff dedicated to “helping models in the American fashion industry organize for safe, fair, and healthy standards in their workplace.”
