From Elle Fanning to Hailee Steinfeld: We Dress Some of Our Favorite Starlets for Prom

With prom season upon us, we’ve been looking at the dresses from all different angles: What to wear, what not to wear, how to get the look.

For most celebrities, however, this routine is nothing new. Getting dolled up for a night of partying and red carpet stomping is just another part of the job–however, for young Hollywood actresses the routine is slightly different since they have designers clamoring to dress them.

We can’t imagine that any of the current hot young things are tired of getting dressed up just yet, so we’ve decided to dress a few of our favorite starlets (of a certain high school-ish age–we know some of them are over 18…) for prom in some looks from spring and fall.

Click through for a prom we are very interested in attending.

Kate Young Tops The Hollywood Reporter’s List of the 25 Most Powerful Stylists, Rachel Zoe ‘Too Big To Rank’

Today, entertainment rag The Hollywood Reporter released their second annual style issue and accompanying list of the 25 most powerful stylists in the biz and they’ve named Kate Young the most powerful of them all. As you may recall, Rachel Zoe–not surprisingly–topped last year’s list and covered the issue while pregnant. This year, Zoe isn’t Read more →

The UK’s ASA Slams a Rachel Weisz for L’Oreal Ad for ‘Unrealistic Retouching’

The UK’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has taken yet another cosmetics company to task for its false advertising, WWD is reporting. Instead of taking an overprotective role over too-young girls being featured in precarious situations (like Dakota Fanning’s Marc Jacobs Oh Lola! ad or Hailee Steinfeld in that “irresponsible” Miu Miu ad), this time they’re Read more →

First Look: Mia Wasikowska Is the New Face of Miu Miu

Surprise! Miu Miu has chosen 22-year-old actress Mia Wasikowska to front their spring/summer 2012 campaign. She replaces then-14-year-old Hailee Steinfeld, whose Bruce Weber-shot ads were a departure from Miu Miu’s usual campaign format. Mia’s are a return to the glossy, made-up studio shots Miu Miu has done in the past and we’re pretty sure there’s Read more →

Are Today’s Lesser-Known Campaign Stars Alienating Brands’ Target Customers?

A new trend among many fashion and beauty brands, it seems, is to use young, pretty up-and-coming actresses in their ad campaigns rather than established movie stars. Some examples from the past couple of seasons include Felicity Jones at Dolce & Gabbana, Mila Kunis (who may be inching her way to movie stardom) at Dior, Emily Blunt at Yves Saint Laurent, Emma Stone at Revlon, Emma Watson at Burberry, Elle Fanning at Marc by Marc Jacobs and Hailee Steinfeld at Miu Miu.

While many critics have pointed the finger at Marc by Marc and Miu Miu for using girls who are too young to wear or afford the clothes they advertise, there’s another potential issue, which is that those brands’ target customers have no idea who these ladies are.

The 25 Best Fashion Editorials of 2011

It happens every year: Our ever-growing pile of fashion magazines inches higher with each passing month, and by the time December rolls around, we can barely sift through the hundreds of stylish images we bookmarked for inspiration. 2011 was no exception, and in a year that celebrated retro supermodels, androgyny, vivid colors, and plenty of experimentation in the beauty department, choosing our favorites was particularly difficult.

The best editorials of the year ran the gamut from huge ensemble casts of blue-chip models styled by greats like Katie Grand and Carine Roitfeld, to intimate, one-on-one portraits of our favorite girls like Lindsey Wixson and Daria Werbowy. The acid brights that dominated the spring collections allowed for some pretty trippy trend stories last season, but the fall glossies featured much moodier imagery, with a number of gorgeous spreads in black and white.

Here are the editorials from 2011 that will stay tacked up on our walls and fill our inspiration boards well into the new year—and beyond.

20 Moments that Rocked the Fashion World in 2011

20 Moments that Rocked the Fashion World in 2011

We’ll cut right to the chase: A lot of crazy shit happened in the fashion world this year. While the industry that we call home can sometimes seem isolated and fantastical, many of its key players and events made headlines even in the mainstream media over the course of 2011.

In the last 365 days, we’ve seen our share of ups and downs: There have been exciting new beginnings and tragic falls from grace. A royal wedding and a Sarah Burton for McQueen dress captivated the world, while Galliano’s dress for Kate Moss made the fashion world swoon. We’ve celebrated the return of older models—like when 46-year-old Kristen McMenamy wore a bikini on the cover of Vogue Italia—and saw plenty of controversy surrounding very young ones. Just when we thought the boundaries of gender identity were breaking for good and that Lea T could kiss Kate Moss on the cover of LOVE, a men’s mag openly calls androgynous model Andrej Pejic a “thing.” We took it all in stride, and we’ve hopefully come out better on the other side.

Looking back at 2011, we’ve chosen twenty major moments that we believe defined the year in fashion. Which one made the biggest impact on you?

If Miu Miu’s Fall Ad Campaign Was ‘Irresponsible’ Here Are Some Really ‘Irresponsible’ Ad Campaigns

As we reported earlier, Hailee Steinfeld’s fall 2011 Miu Miu campaign, which depicted her sitting near a train track, was banned in the UK for being “irresponsible because it depicted a child in an unsafe location.”

By that logic, the following ad campaigns, some of which depict actual dangerous situations, should never have made it to print. I mean, I can’t believe we aren’t hearing about people hurting themselves every day by climbing the Eiffel Tower in high heels and standing on top of volcanos. Although, death by attempting to recreate a Dior campaign would be a pretty chic way to go. Fashin has some excellent “irresponsible” ad campaigns with some hilarious captions here. Click through for 10 more examples.

Hailee Steinfeld’s Miu Miu Ad Deemed ‘Irresponsible’ in the UK Because She’s Sitting on Train Tracks

The UK’s Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) must be really bored or something this month. First they pulled Dakota Fanning’s Marc Jacobs Oh Lola ad because she was holding a huge bottle between her legs (we sort of get that one–SORT OF). They’ve now shifted their censoring sights to another American starlet, Hailee Steinfeld, who starred in that cute fall 2011 Miu Miu campaign. Or was it not cute at all, but secretly sinister?

Besties Haillee Steinfeld and Tavi Gevinson Go On a Disneyland Adventure!

We saw a friendship blossom between actress Haillee Steinfeld and blogger/editor Tavi Gevinson back in July when they both attended the launch party for Miu Miu’s “noir” sunglasses in LA–they were joined at the hip. Since then, they’ve talked a lot about how much they like each other. And yesterday they reunited at Disneyland! We’ll ignore the fact that the 14 and 15 year olds appear to be skipping school and instead talk about how much fun they’re having and how cute it is!

Mad Men‘s Kiernan Shipka is the Newest Precocious Tween Actress-Turned-Style Blogger

Well, I guess it was only a matter of time before Kiernan Shipka, better known as Mad Men‘s Sally Draper, entered the fashion blogosphere. The 11-year-old actress has great red carpet style and even designs her own dresses. Now she’s blogging her outfits a la Vogue.com’s five days five looks for Lucky, except we’re treated to eight whole days of outfits from Shipka. She wears Stella McCartney kids, Paul & Joe and Marc Jacobs to name a few designers, and takes outfit inspiration from, you guessed it, Tavi.

Take a look at our favorite outfits from the child star and click over to Lucky to see the rest. Is she the next Elle Fanning/Hailee Steinfeld/Chloe Moretz?
