“Smarten up” seemed to be the coaches’ message Wednesday as the first big shows in Paris got underway. Enfant terrible Gareth Pugh was promoted to Varsity when he went medieval on critics–in a totally soigné contemporary way. Meanwhile, in the battle of moody romanticism between two great print houses, Dries van Noten and Rochas, Dries’s flannel à la française scored a touchdown–and that’s how the game was won.
Oscar de la Renta, Allison Williams, and her stylist Christina Ehrlich collaborated with WWD on a piece about Williams’s Emmys prep. The article offers up a revealing look at all that goes into mapping out Allison Williams’s “image”–from her Met debut to her designer choices. It’s pretty fascinating and very calculated.
Forgive me for my lack of cultural references, but the best way I can describe last night’s masquerade fête celebrating Lady Gaga’s foray into the fragrance industry is as a Gossip Girl episode brought to life.
The Clothes: Michael Kors always uses “student work” as an insult to designers on Project Runway, but it was definitely not applicable here. The FIT students who sent work their work down the runway deserved to be at NYFW. The mini collections were filled with intricate knit work, beading, beautiful fabrics, and detailed craftmanship. Last night a line of well-heeled ladies wound down 54th st., all hoping to get into the Manolo Blahnik store to hear Cyndi Lauper perform. The pop icon was there to promote her new musical, called Kinky Boots, for which she wrote the score (it opens on Broadway in April). So it was only fitting that Lauper have some kinky boots of her own. And who better to make them than Manolo Blahnik.

And some of them even got up to some pretty hilarious shenanigans: Nicole Miller entertained guests with bootylicious Ailey II dancers, Coco Rocha straddled Read more →
There was no question about it: The first stop on our Fashion’s Night Out tour last night had to be Balenciaga, where Vogue Creative Director Grace Coddington was on hand to meet her legion of fans and sign the limited edition scarves and totes that featured drawings she did of her cat, Pumpkin, wearing Balenciaga looks from various seasons.
If you haven’t heard, she likes cats. So do we. So obviously we had a lot to talk about.
Rihanna debuted a new ‘do, Taylor Swift ditched her princess dresses for a white suit (good move Tay!), Rita Ora and Nicki Minaj wore dueling cat suits, Amber Rose proudly displayed her baby bump, Miley Cyrus paired her Pucci with a bleach blond mohawk, and Gabby Douglas stepped out of her leotard and into some serious sequins.
Awesome news out of tonight’s VMAs: not only did One Direction win all three awards they were nominated for (you’re excited too, come on), MTV announced that Karlie Kloss and Joan Smalls will be the new hosts of House of Style!
Hey guys! Did you hear? Fashion’s Night Out is happening tonight. What do you mean, you didn’t plan anything?! There’s so much going on! Don’t just wing it – check out one of our guides to the events and map out your night.
I attended last night’s Brian Atwood party at the Four Seasons with three intentions: Find Ryan Lochte, meet Ryan Lochte, and make Ryan Lochte fall madly in love with me. I can proudly report that within approximately 45 minutes’ time, I achieved two of my three goals–and let’s just say, the jury’s still out on the third. Allow me to explain.
