American Apparel Reports Growing Numbers: The controversial retailer is expected to post gains of 11% for same-store January numbers, which have been rising since September of last year. Other sales numbers are also strong, explains Dov Charney: “[...W]e don’t have the distractions–like labor issues at our factory–that we had in previous years.” The retailer hopes to find aid for their immense debt in the coming weeks. {WWD}

End of an Era?: Once an icon of American society, the New York Times investigates what is being done to revitalize shopping malls. New uses proposed include dog parks, office spaces, or even event spaces. {NYTimes}

Jessica Stam is the new face of the CoverGirl LipPerfection print ads, and a few weeks ago we got to sit at a spring trend mini-seminar with makeup guru Pat McGrath and Stam. McGrath is fresh off her first-ever movie gig, helping to transform Rooney Mara into Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. And now she’s prepping to do the makeup looks for 24 fashion shows in New York and Milan, but we got to catch up with her before the madness starts.

CoverGirl is releasing some videos highlighting their new spring beauty launches which feature McGrath giving some how-tos, with Jessica Stam as muse. Fashionista has the second such video exclusively today, and we also had the opportunity to ask McGrath all our pressing lipstick application questions. Check out Stam’s transformation below, and also get answers to such complicated issues as: When should you use a lip brush?

This should make your Monday a little better. To celebrate the relaunch of Vogue.fr, Vogue Paris’ website (it looks a lot cleaner and more like a Tumblr site now), EIC Emmanuelle Alt, French TV personality Mademoiselle Agnès, and models Anja Rubik, Karmen Pedaru, Jasmine Tookes and Kendra Spears got together to perform Wham! “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go,” a song Alt has previously revealed to be one of her favorites. Click through to watch the video.

Well, that was fast! Since going on sale at midnight on February 5, Jason Wu for Target has almost completely sold out–and over 11,000 items are already on eBay.

Though this time the online launch went a little smoother than Missoni for Target’s infamous site meltdown (but not without a few hiccups–read our first account later today), items still went lightening speed quick. We checked this morning and there is currently only one item still available online–this pleated blue top.

Brick-and-mortar didn’t fare much better, with most locations selling out of some items within minutes. But the worst story we’ve heard of yet is the midtown Miami store whose complete stock of the collection was bought by a couple with the intent to resell, as the video below, sent to us by a tipster, shows.

Yes, most people watched the Super Bowl last night. And so did we, if only to see the David Beckham for H&M commercial on a bigger screen (mesmerizing) and Madonna’s performace (lots of Givenchy). But after half time, we switched over to CBS to watch Morley Safer interview Anna Wintour on 60 Minutes. After all, she’s fashion’s MVP/QB, right?

Wintour was one of “Three Remarkable Women” featured in last night’s edition (Dolly Parton and Meryl Streep were the other two), and she handled herself admirably against Safer’s sometimes obnoxious line of questioning. Read more »

Rachel Zoe may have had that baby, but her growing empire shows no signs of slowing down. From her successful clothing line to her reality television and overall stardom, Zoe has become more than just a stylist (honestly, how much styling could she really be doing these days?)

Today’s WWD, the paper that gave her first collection a sizable spread, chronicles her latest projects. Television is definitely in the cards, but not in the way you might expect.

You have to hand it to Madonna. She killed it tonight at the Super Bowl halftime show. She did cartwheels. And walkovers. In stiletto over-the-knee boots. And she’s 53. The theme for the show was a somewhat historically confusing mix of Roman gladiator meets ancient Egyptian. Madonna’s dress was Givenchy couture, the custom headpiece was Philip Treacy (Nicki Minaj’s headdress was Erickson Beamon), and the jewelry was Bulgari. UPDATE: Those amazing over-the-knee boots were custom stretch leather Miu Miu with a special ‘M’ on the heel for Madonna and Miu Miu. Click through to see the one and only Material Girl in action. World Peace.

Here at Fashionista, we’re always up for a little DIY. And with the biggest sport (and advertising) event of the year’s kickoff happening in just a few short hours, we thought we’d first take a little quiet time to ourselves/fingers and invest in some ridiculous yet totally appropriate Giants vs. Patriots nail art! Our ‘artistic’ process was a bit on the trial and error-side of things, but the end results are certainly conversation starters. I mean, even we were a little bit impressed with our new-found mani-talents.

Click through our step-by-step guide to getting some super Super Bowl nails, and feel free to be inspired to steal some ideas in support of your fave team. At the very least, your sporty new polish job should effectively distract anyone else who’s going after the same chicken wing as you. And you’ll have something interesting to look at when you wash off the hot sauce later tonight! Game on.
