Forget Kimye.
Paris fashion week front-row-newbie Frank Ocean was one of our favorite celebrities to spot this week. The Grammy winner hit up several shows, including Givenchy and Chanel, so when we spotted him at Valentino, we had to grab a moment with him to ask how his first Paris fashion week was going. (We also overheard him tell another reporter that he’d brought along his mom to all the shows. How adorable is that?)
What follows is a rather stumbling awkward interview, because, well, he was just so disarmingly nice and open. Not what you’d expect from a celebrity. Basically, he charmed our pants off. We were fans before but now we’re smitten.
Oh, Chanel. Season after season you give us the best sets, the best accessories, and yes… the best beauty. Fall 2013 was no exception. Former Chanel creative director (now freelancing) Peter Philips came up with yet another original runway look.
Oh, and he also snuck in a peek at a new Chanel polish.
So this was the episode where everyone loses their shit. Spoiler alert.
Haute couture literally translates to “high sewing,” but what does the term really mean? When ready-to-wear dresses and coats can cost upwards of $4,000, what are the real indicators that a piece is truly couture?
A new exhibit opening at the Hôtel de Ville in Paris this week should clear those questions up.
Oscars Extravaganza: We’ve got every angle of that Oscar red carpet covered: Documenting every gown? Check. Best and worst dressed? Got it. There were plenty of quick changes. We picked out the biggest trends of the night (dudes with long white hair–who knew). MObama made a surprise appearance, much to our delight. And don’t forget the after-parties!
The Drama of Dressing Anne Hathaway: First, Anne’s nipples became an Oscar night thing, spawning their own Twitter account. Then there was The Dress Switch–Anne swapped her Valentino for Prada at the last minute, reportedly to avoid matching co-star Amanda Seyfried, forcing her to publicly apologize.
Jennifer Lawrence Becomes America’s Best Friend: Tripping in a couture gown in front of millions is many actresses’ worst nightmare, but Jennifer Lawrence turned a negative into a positive (falling in Dior has never looked so good!). And even though she looks amazing, she then admitted to being photoshopped for the Dior ads, sealing the deal for us.
Critics were abuzz when Haider Ackermann and Junya Watanabe went, well, a little commercial Sunday with less-tricky suiting and loads of biker jackets, respectively. All was not straight and narrow, however, for at Comme Des Garçons Rei Kawakubo took tailoring to infinity and beyond.
