SCAD Students Show Off Their Work at a Dinner Honoring Hugo Boss CEO Mark Brashear

“I’m so awesomely proud to show off our SCAD student work here in New York City with our incredible partners of Hugo Boss,” Michael Fink, SCAD’s dean of fashion explained at a dinner this week celebrating the school’s latest Etoile Award recipient: Hugo Boss CEO, Mark Brashear. Held at the Mallick Williams & Co gallery, which is currently exhibiting a display of Jeremy Kost’s jigsaw Polaroids, the event served as a platform to show off some of the school’s senior theses, which will take to the runway on May 19th in Savannah.

“I’ve gone down there twice now, I just love the whole Savannah thing–they just own the whole town. I couldn’t be more impressed with the programs and the quality of the work,” Fern Mallis said.

The Fashion Pack (Hamish Bowles, Karlie Kloss, Giovanna Battaglia and More) Descends On St. Louis for a Hoedown to Celebrate Derek Blasberg’s Birthday

St. Louis, Missouri is known for a few things: that big arch, delicious barbecue, Nelly, and hosting the evil St.Louis Cardinals [Ed.Note: Go Cubs!] What it is not known for is international fashion editors, models and socialites prancing around in Prada. Yet St. Louis encountered all those things this past weekend, thanks to Lou native Derek Blasberg, who convinced his fashionable friends including Giovanna Battaglia, Elizabeth von Thurns und Taxis, Hamish Bowles, the Brant brothers, fellow Missourian Karlie Kloss, and Taylor Tomasi Hill to fête his birthday at the Blasberg Family Farm in Hillsboro, Missouri. We bet the Midwest is still reeling.

Loomstate’s Designers Bike Ride Drunk (for the Environment!), Convinced Winona Ryder To Stop Washing Her Jeans

Just in time for Earth Day on Sunday, the fashion crowd went crunchy (well, as much as they could) last night at the charity concept store Treasure & Bond in Soho when Rogan Gregory and Scott MacKinlay Hahn of eco-fashion line Loomstate took over to debut their Loomstate 321 line.

This capsule line of reversible and versatile multi-colored tees, tanks and dresses fashioned from one knit, man-made fabric Tencil will appeal to the environmentally conscious, frugal and laundry-challenged alike. One of the light, mega-layered and color-blocked dresses that Rogan Gregory showed us can be worn in eight different ways.

Design partners Gregory and Hahn live and breathe by their eco-conscious beliefs–incorporating them not just in their designs but also in their daily lifestyles.

“To reduce my fossil fuel footprint, I ride my bike every day and I’m as healthy as I was 20 years ago,” Gregory explained to us. “Sometimes, it’s after midnight and I’ve drank like three beers. It’s kind of like, ‘Ah, I don’t want to get on the bike.’ But you get on the bike and you can feel good about it for so many different reasons.”

Wait, what?

Cartier Relaunches Its Juste Un Clou Collection with a Model-Filled Bash

In honor of the relaunch of its Juste Un Clou collection, and coinciding New York City in the ’70s exhibit, Cartier decided to throw a little celebration. And by little, we mean really, really big. In fact, the only thing little about the entire evening was the endless array of passed hors d’oeuvres which, lucky for us, were never quite out of arm’s reach. There were tiny wild boar thingies, little poached quail eggs, baby banana Nutella crepes, microscopic filet mignon, shrunken lobster pastries… must stop/mouth watering. Moving on…

Juste Un Clou (which literally translates to ‘Just a Nail’) is a collection of rings and bracelets that are exactly that- the finest of fine jewelry (many loaded with diamonds, of course) molded into the shape of gracefully bent hardware that range in price from $2,175 to a whopping $34,650.

Life Lessons from Mr. Porter: How To Mix a Mean Martini and Undress a Man

Life Lessons from Mr. Porter: How To Mix a Mean Martini and Undress a Man

Last night, Mr. Porter (Net-a-Porter.com’s brother site) promised that they and “a few dashing friends” would make us “wish [we] were a guy… at least for an evening.” And while I wouldn’t necessarily say that was my exact reaction upon leaving the event, it was certainly an experience. The setting was reminiscent of a dimly-lit whiskey lounge frequented in Mad Men, though most of the ‘dashing friends’ looked more Chuck Bass than Don Draper (not that we’re complaining).

Scattered amongst the cocktail-bearing guests were various “classes” being taught by some gorgeous gents, meant to show us women folk how to be more like men. Or, how to please our men with our manly skills. Or, how to show our men how to be more like the real men they should be. Even if the closest thing to a man in my life right now is a betta fish named Banana. Whatever.

So, looking to share some gentlemanly tips with the men in your life? Here are some of the best ones we picked up over the course of the evening:

Last Night’s Party: A Fete for Gia Coppola’s Sofia Coppola-esque Film for Wren

Last Night’s Party: A Fete for Gia Coppola’s Sofia Coppola-esque Film for Wren

LOS ANGELES–It was an evening of film and fashion last night as L.A.’s style setters crowded into TENOVERSIX to fete What’s Up, a short film by Gia Coppola (Sofia’s niece and mini-me) in collaboration with Wren’s Melissa Coker and styled by Lula Magazine’s Leith Clark (who unfortunately missed her flight and wasn’t able to join in on the fun).

The film, which first debuted at New York Fashion Week spring 2012, follows the adorable and very bored Bella Zarember as she looks for ways to fight her ennui in the City of Angels. Rich and bored in LA? Sounds like a Coppola movie!

And what do you do when you’re a stylish bespectacled LA high schooler with time to kill? Change in and out of lots of different outfits (all Wren styled by Leith Clark) and accessories with jewelry from Wren x Fallon.

“The clothes speak for themselves, so I just focused on everything else,” said Coppola, who, like the rest of us, cites aunt Sofia as her style idol.

Last Night’s Party: Fashion Week Comes to a Bizarre Close With Guns N’ Roses, Justin Timberlake, Sienna Miller and More

Never saw this one coming but it really happened: Axl Rose and his recreated Guns N’ Roses sounded the closing bell of New York Fashion Week. Needless to say, the hodgepodge of ridiculousness that ensued surpassed all of our prior expectations, and it’s worth noting that the original bar was set rather high. Though when Read more →
