Rachel Comey is not usually one of those shows that has a celeb packed front row. Or any celebs in the front row for that matter. Devoted editors, buyers and Brooklyn cool girls a plenty but celebs? Not so much. So imagine our delight when one of our favorite celebs, the Party Girl herself, Parker Posey, plunked herself down a few seats over from us at last night’s show (runway pix and review to come shortly, don’t worry).

While waiting to interview Comey backstage after her show, Posey joined the line of fashion editors. “So, is this where we line up?” Posey asked me. I resisted my urge to yell “Air Raid!” and seized on the opportunity to turn my recorder on the incredibly down-to-earth actress first. “OK,” she shrugged, jokingly. Only, somehow she ended up interviewing me instead.

Fashionista: We absolutely LOVED the white sequined jumpsuit that you wore to the Screen Actors Guild Awards. What inspired you to wear pants?
Rose Byrne: I wanted to wear a suit. It was really my hair. I was trying to do a bit of Michelle Pfeiffer Scarface meets Anna Wintour-inspired hairstyle. I had tried on this jumpsuit a few years earlier and I ended up wearing something else to an awards ceremony and my stylist Penny [Lovell] was like, what about that jumpsuit from Elie Saab? And so, luckily we could get it back and we just went from there.

So what do you have to say to those people that just didn’t get it?
I totally knew it was not going to be received well by everybody, so I was prepared for that. What was really lovely on the night was that I had so many compliments from people at the event and that was really nice but I went in thinking it would be risky.

It’s much more interesting to take risks, sometimes people can be so boring on the red carpet.
Absolutely, no risk no reward isn’t that what they say? So it’s fashion. It should be fun! So it’s good to take a chance.

Congratulations on presenting at the Oscars with your Bridesmaids castmates!
I’m so excited!

What are you thinking of wearing?
I won’t reveal too much, but we’ve got a couple of great really cool options and we’re having a couple of fittings soon. But yeah, I want it to be a bit of a surprise …so it’s exciting to see what’s coming in and it’s been fun.

We figured we’d try. So the Martin Scorsese drinking game that Maya Rudolph, Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy came up with at the SAGs was hilarious. If you could create a fashion/red carpet-related drinking game for the Oscars, what would it be?
I’m trying to think what’s the most popular designer. I feel like a lot of people … a lot of people are in Marchesa. Okay you’ve gotta have a drink every time someone in Marchesa walks by. I think you’d be pretty tanked by the time you got to the auditorium.

We never forget the first time with Karl. He invited me for lunch and I was like, “Oh la la! What can I tell to Karl?” He’s so incredible and knows so many languages. I was very insecure. But for me it was very fun, and easy immediately. My father was raised in Germany. And Karl was happy to talk about this German singer my father loved. He really knows about everything.

On the book she’s working on with Karl:

I’m back to working with him more as an editor. We just finished a book about a little black Chanel jacket. I dressed all of these people in the Chanel jacket, sometimes it’s very big, sometimes it’s very small. Anna Wintour, Sarah Jessica Parker and different people, even a little 3-year-old girl. It will be released in March.

She cries often:

I’m crying very often, you know. I think it’s my Russian blood. I’m a very emotional person. I’m someone if I go to see Bambi, I cry. It’s true.

She doesn’t want to be known for being “porno” anymore:

I don’t want to repeat the same cliché I had for 30 years. Everyone says I’m the queen of porno chic. I want to be chic, irreverent and special, but not porno anymore.

She doesn’t read Vogue Paris anymore:

I don’t read Vogue Paris, honestly. I want to make a break. It’s like when you have a divorce, you don’t want to go back. And we don’t have kids in common, so…

She’s responsible for Riccardo Tisci getting the job at Givenchy:

I’d love to create a special place for young designers in Paris. I remember meeting Riccardo Tisci, who is now at Givenchy. One day, I was in Milan. It was after the Gucci show and someone said I should go to see this young designer. After the show, I go backstage and he was so surprised to see me, he was almost crying. Givenchy was looking for young designers and I told them to have a look at him. I was the link. And now I see it.

Some new details on her forthcoming magazine, on track to launch in September.

I’ll start out doing two a year and it will launch in September. I’m coming from Vogue. So it’s difficult to do another magazine after Vogue with less money. So I want to do something totally different. I want to be the Joan of Arc of fashion. I want to be the link between the runway and the real woman.

It’s becoming pretty clear to us that Azealia Banks, the 20-year-old Laguardia HS grad whose dirty lyrics (and genuine talent) have everyone’s attention, is poised to take the fashion world by storm as well. In fact, in a remarkably short time (basically one trip to Paris), she already has. When Nicola Formichetti tweeted at her a couple of weeks ago (and made us wonder if she was the next Lady Gaga), that was just the tip of the iceberg.

Lucky for us, Azealia is a prolific Twitterer (we really hope fame doesn’t change that) and has essentially been chronicling her own journey into the hearts of fashion people like Cara Delevigne, Derek Blasberg, Karl Lagerfeld and us. From providing the soundtrack to the Mugler menswear show in Paris to performing at the Kaiser’s house, here’s a little timeline (check out the video of her performance, and imagine what Karl is thinking as she raps “I’m gonna ruin you cunt”):

Kate Young was recently named one of “Hollywood’s Most Powerful Stylists” by the Hollywood Reporter and after one look at her celebrity clientele, it’s easy to see why. She dresses Michelle Williams, Natalie Portman and Rachel Weisz, to name a few, all people on whom we’ve come to rely for spot-on perfect red carpet looks. This also means that, considering it’s awards season and two of her clients are very much a part of that, Kate is super busy. Still, she found time for another new project.

She’s the latest INC Editor at Large for Spring/Summer 2012 at Macy’s. She follows inaugural INC Editor at Large Anna Dello Russo and her duties are a bit vague, as those of an ‘Editor at Large’ tend to be. What we know for sure is that they include styling the new INC collection, which you can peruse below, and a hip party thrown in her honor, which took place yesterday evening at Le Bain. We stopped by to chat with the super stylist about that gig, plus the attention celebrity stylists have been getting lately, dressing Natalie and Michelle for the Oscars and other upcoming projects, like Natalie’s next Dior campaign (!).

It’s a whole new year! And a very important year, at that, for one of our favorite designers and fashion personalities, Alber Elbaz. 2012 marks his 10th anniversary as creative director at French fashion house Lanvin – and a lot has a happened since his first collection in 2002. Born in Morocco and raised in Tel Aviv, the bow tie-loving boy originally named “Albert” (he dropped the ‘T’ to avoid American pronunciation mishaps) has become one fashion’s most prominent and beloved (and bespectacled) faces.

Every time a new Carven collection debuts, we get so excited, and our love for the French label and its genius designer Guillaume Henry grows a little bit more. His lovely pre-fall offerings, which include an expanded selection of menswear, are no exception.

His vision of designing clothes inspired by–and for–real stylish city girls is realized to perfection once again. As with many of Henry’s designs, there’s a ’60s schoolgirl vibe with knee-length shift dresses and a-line skirts, little matching jackets with a blouson shape, shirts with high collars and cardigans–all made modern with new shapes, unexpected colors and crazy accessories.

Being read aloud to by Simon Doonan is a rare treat–one that I was privy to yesterday when Barneys’ creative ambassador-at-large held story time at the department store to promote his latest book, Gay Men Don’t Get Fat ($24.95, Blue Rider Press). The book is Doonan’s fourth, and it’s a hilarious piss take at French Women Don’t Get Fat, dedicated to “the straight women of the world, whose lives seem insanely more complicated than my own and whose shoes must surely hurt like hell.” Being read to from it was like getting a slightly dirty totally hilarious bed time story from the gay uncle you wish you had, only at 9 a.m. over yogurt and berries at Barneys–so, even gayer.

Speaking of yogurt and berries, Doonan would tell you that they are totally gay foods. Foods, according to Doonan, can be categorized by their sexuality. He discussed this theory, and much more yesterday, including: why fashion people should stop being so masochistic, why he’d be a horrible addition to Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, the abysmal state of the red carpet, and why you shouldn’t get offended by his book.

As if we didn’t love, fawn over, respect, and want to be Iris Apfel enough already, her interview on Into the Gloss has us falling for the unstoppable nonagenarian hard. She invites Emily Weiss into her apartment (which features this awesome bathmat with a lion head) to talk beauty products (she doesn’t use much), plastic surgery (she’s against it), aging, her upcoming collection for MAC and her bemusement at being considered so ‘cool’ and ‘hot’ that Alexis Bittar’s PR girl got her likeness tattooed on her wrist.

These are words of wisdom people, so listen up:

On being considered ‘cool’:

I don’t like trends anyway—I like tradition. I’m doing the same thing and liking the same things. Of course, to say I don’t change—that makes me sound like I’m a dimwit. You change as you go along. I mean, you grow—but my basic sensibility is the same. I’m not doing anything in a violently different way now than I did fifty years ago. That’s pitiful. My husband and I laugh about it all the time because we think, ‘My God,’ these girls will say, I’m ‘cool’ or I’m ‘hot’ or whatever the expression is, and I’m not doing anything differently than what I did a long time ago. It’s funny. I can’t say I don’t like it, it’s very flattering. Matter-of-fact, I think one of the most flattering things I’ve ever heard—you know, I almost fell out of my chair when someone called to tell me about it—Alexis Bittar’s PR girl has a tattoo of me on her wrist. It’s a very good portrait! I haven’t seen it in person, but apparently it looks just like me.

On aging:

Getting older ain’t for sissies, I’ll tell you…You have to push yourself when you’re older, because it’s very easy to fall into the trap. You start to fall apart—you just have to do your best to paste yourself together. I think doing things and being active is very important. When your mind is busy, you don’t hurt so much.

Aging gracefully is about no heavy makeup, and not too much powder because it gets into the wrinkles, and you know, to not get turtle eyelids, and to not try to look young. You don’t have to look like an old fuddy-duddy, but I believe it was Chanel who said, ‘Nothing makes a woman look so old as trying desperately hard to look young’. I think you can be attractive at any age. I think trying to look like a spring chicken when you’re not makes you look ridiculous.

On plastic surgery:

I’m very opposed to plastic surgery. I think if—God forbid—you’re in an accident, or if you were cursed with a nose like Pinocchio, you’d have to go and get it fixed. But just to get nipped and tucked, I think it’s very painful, very expensive, and having been in hospitals as much as I have, subjecting yourself to surgery when you don’t need it is not a smart thing to do. But what do I know? I mean, almost everybody does it. I think if women put some more of the time and money they put on their heads in their heads, they’d be better off. I mean, nobody’s going to think you’re thirty-two, so what’s the point?

On using mustache wax as mascara and how to avoid looking like a turtle:

One day, I fell into the hands of my friend’s sister who was a very glamorous fashion model. She took me by the hand and in the other hand she had a tube of black mustache wax. She took a spoon and struck a match, and the wax melted, then she took a brush on the eyes and they beaded—I looked like Miss Piggy. On my eyelashes—very heavy—it was like heavy, heavy, heavy mascara. I had very long lashes, so it was very striking. This was when I was about eighteen, which, let me see—I’m ninety now, so, how long was that? About seventy-two years ago—I don’t know if they even make it anymore. That’s what I used to use, and I used to use eye shadow and very bright lipstick. I’m not good at putting on makeup, but you have to be a moron not to be able to put on lipstick. Now since I’m older, I don’t do my eyes anymore because when you’re older, your eyelids wrinkle. If you use blue or green, and you’re not really expert, you end up looking like a turtle.

Tim Gunn, the beloved mentor on Project Runway, is branching out in all sorts of new directions in 2012.

Most notably, everyone’s favorite filter-less and erudite fashion mentor has landed another TV spot co-hosting a new daytime talk show, The Revolution, which airs January 16 at 2pm EST on ABC. Each week the health and lifestyle show will feature one woman’s five-month-long weight loss “journey” to change, compressed into five days; Friday will be the “reveal” day. (This is a great concept–who doesn’t love a good make-over reveal?)

Tim’s role on the show will be to provide fashion and styling advice to these women whose bodies are undergoing big changes. He’ll be joined in co-hosting duties by the often-frenetic Ty Pennington (interior design/art), Harley Pasternak (trainer and nutritionist to every hot celeb out there), Dr. Jennifer Ashton (OB/Gyn/women’s health issues), and Dr. Tiffanie Davis Henry (relationship expert).

While somewhat under the radar, Tim also signed on as Weight Watchers’ “style consultant” last January.

Teen Vogue was probably counting down the days until Elle Fanning officially became a teenager so they could make her a cover star. And not surprisingly, so was Elle Fanning, according to the below video, which goes behind the scenes of her insanely adorable and perfect February cover shoot. As you can imagine, Teen Vogue and Elle Fanning, who’s already a fashion darling, are a match made in heaven and while we also love seeing her in grown-up couture looks, it’s nice to see her looking sweet and girly.

In the video, Elle is her usual charming self, talking about how excited she is to be in Teen Vogue and that giddy enthusiasm carries over into the cover story, in which she gabs about hanging out with the Mulleavys, acting with huge movie stars and less surreal things like sleepovers, school and being the tallest kid in her grade.

They also talk to Dakota, who readily admits that Elle has surpassed her older sister when it comes to fashion…

Olivier Theyskens sat down with Into the Gloss to talk everything from designing for himself (as a cool girl), how he learned to accept his appearance as a teenager, and why he loves New York (Hint: manicurists!).

On his design mentality:

There’s been this shift in my mind that I basically…more and more put myself mentally in the place of girls. To imagine girls—would I like this if I was there? Would I want to dress like that? Would I like to wear that jacket? If I had that jacket, what pants would I really like to wear with it to look cool? That’s how I sort of evolved with designing. That’s maybe why—even the way I see my outfits even on the [Theyskens’ Theory] catwalk, they do not look like me as a designer, like I’m showing some impressive design. It’s more like me as I imagine I would like my clothes to be if I was a cool girl. [ed note: That explains the underwear] It’s very different from before, because it’s less seen from outside. It’s less that I look at the girl from outside, as a figure. It’s a mental shift, I think.

Last Week, Opening Ceremony unveiled the first installment of “At Home With Chloë,” which, unfortunately, isn’t a reality show, but a series of videos created in collaboration with the retailer Chloë Sevigny designs clothes for. Part one was a tour of her closet and enviable wardrobe and part two is more of the same, but we’re still eating it up. It starts off with a close-up of that awkward photo of her and Kate Moss backstage at Miu Miu in 1995, followed by more of her most prized sartorial possessions, including the custom Proenza dress she wore to the Met Ball in 2010 and then ruined while dancing, some vintage scores from movie sets and eBay and the Versace suit she wanted to wear to the Muppets premiere. (About the Proenza dress, she says she “needs to get it back to them” so they can “fix it,” but realistically, will she ever wear it again?)

She also has a not-quite-normal amount of pictures of herself hanging on a wall, which I guess we’ll learn more about in part three…
