Watch: Anna Wintour Doesn’t Think She’s Intimidating

Forbes just released their list of the World’s Most Powerful Women and, as expected, Anna Wintour made the cut. What is surprising: she’s only #69. Though it’s expected that politicians would top an editor (Angela Merkel was #1 and Hillary Clinton is #2), we were a little shocked that Lady Gaga came it at #11 (the highest non-politician or businesswoman on the list) and Beyoncé was #18.

Solange Knowles Says She’d Love to Do a Collaboration With Opening Ceremony

Last night, Opening Ceremony threw a block party on Howard Street (where their flagship is located) to celebrate the stateside launch of Kim Jones’ collaboration with Bean Pole, a South Korean retailer. Thus, the party was sort of Korean-themed with a Korean taco truck and cocktails made with soju. To round out the block party vibe, Brooklyn MC Theophilus London performed to a fashionable crowd that included Shala Monroque, Jen Brill, Phil Oh, and Rachel Chandler. Even new Kenzo creative directors (and Opening Ceremony co-founders) Humberto Leon and Carol Lim made time to stop by.

The always stylish and multi-talented Solange Knowles was also there and joined London on stage for two songs after doing a three-hour DJ set. Even though she was probably pretty exhausted from all that, Solange, who is becoming a regular here on Fashionista, was nice enough to chat with us briefly after her awesome performance. Here’s what she had to say about dj’ing, stealing clothes from her sister and doing a clothing line.

Michael Kors To Wed Longtime Boyfriend Lance LePere

Michael Kors is getting married! Life & Style spotted the designer and his boyfriend Lance LePere at NYC’s City Hall yesterday picking up a marriage license. The two met in 1990 when Lance came on board as an intern at Kors’ company. See? You never know what’s going to come out of a fashion internship!

Most news outlets are calling him “Project Runway‘s Michael Kors,” but we know him first and foremost “iconic American designer” Michael Kors. We’re happy that he has such a huge following now, and wish all the best for him and Lance. As far as the nuptials, it sounds like it won’t be a lavish event. Perhaps a small party at the couple’s private home on Fire Island?

Brad Goreski Is Writing a Book Doling Out ‘Life and Style Lessons from the Front Lines of Fashion’

He already has his own Bravo reality show and now stylist Brad Goreski has landed a lucrative book deal.

Brad just Tweeted, “Hi everyone! I am so excited to be writing a book for @harpercollins. It’s called “Born to Be Brad” and will be out sometime next year :)”

The full title is Born to Be Brad: Life and Style Lessons from the Front Lines of Fashion, according to Coco Perez, and the tome will reportedly cover everything from Brad’s childhood to landing a job as Rachel Zoe’s assistant and everything in between.

“Sometimes the hardest thing to do is be true to yourself,” Brad told the site. “I hope that Born to be Brad will inspire others to pursue their dreams, because to make dreams come true we have to listen to our hearts and not be afraid to fail.”

The book is expected to hit shelves around the same time Brad’s Bravo show, “It’s a Brad Brad World” airs next year. Got to time those things right!

We’re big fans of Brad’s and congratulate him on all his success! He’s hilarious and we’re sure that will come through in his book. Also, being clever as we are, we’ve noticed a pattern emerging here in how Brad’s projects are titled. So for his future endeavors, we have some title suggestions:

Matthew Williamson Tells Us About his Diffusion Line, His BFF Cat Deeley, and his Dancing Abilities

Matthew Williamson is not afraid to experiment with his very specific design aesthetic at different price points. Witness his new collection, MW by Matthew Williamson, which just bowed last week.

MW by Matthew Williamson, the designer’s latest lower-priced collection, follows closely on the heels of his recent one-off Macy’s capsule. This line, however, is truly a diffusion line–just don’t call it cheap. While the prices are more accessible than the main line, a cute metallic thread cheetah print coat dress will set you back more than $500.

I caught up with the designer at his colorful Meatpacking District store, where he was celebrating the launch with some fabulous friends (like Dree Hemingway.) Of course I wanted to get the scoop on the collection, but I also wanted to drill him about Cat Deeley. (Ed. note: Leah and I both have girl crushes on the now Emmy-nominated host of So You Think You Can Dance. She’s so pretty. And so nice. And so normal. So when I found out they were friends, I couldn’t resist. Anyway. You’ve been warned.)

Watch: Tavi’s Sassy Tribute, Plus More Details on Her Magazine, Rookie

As planned, blogger and author Tavi Gevinson gave a Sassy-themed performance at an event in Gowanus, Brooklyn on Wednesday called “The Talent Show Presents: A Tribute to Sassy Magazine.” Tavi and four other girls–a band called SUPERCUTE! and a 19-year-old blogger–performed a live reenactment of the ’90s teen magazine’s “Dear Boy” feature. Each girl asked some dude sitting on a stool various questions about “boys” ranging from, “Should I get married?” to “Do you believe in Ghosts?” to Tavi’s sweet, earnest “Um, I was tricked…and…I thought we had to ask serious questions about boys…well now it’s embarrassing, but okay…” and you get the idea (Tavi starts talking around 3:40).

Sadly, we weren’t able to see this in real life, but thanks to YouTube and the Village Voice, we got to hear Tavi talk like a normal teenage girl about a boy she likes and also know a little more about what she has referred to as a “top secret government project.”

Marquita Pring, a rising star in the modeling world (she’s repped by Ford‘s stellar plus board), talked to WWD about her career and her future aspirations. She also offered a glimpse into the often eff’ed up and confusing world of plus size modeling. For example, she often has to pad her body to look bigger for certain jobs.

Here are some of her thoughts and experiences from the front lines:

Hailee Steinfeld On Why She’s Not Too Young To Be the Face of Miu Miu

Hailee Steinfeld On Why She’s Not Too Young To Be the Face of Miu Miu

LOS ANGELES–There were dozen of celebs at Tuesday night’s Miu Miu party to celebrate the brand’s new Noir line of sunglasses, but it was Hailee Steinfeld, the face of the brand and star of that fantastic Bruce Weber lensed-campaign, that sent flashbulbs popping. I caught up with the 14-year-old actress (who spent most of the evening chatting with Tavi Gevinson–new bestie alert?).

Steinfeld told us she’s “in love” with Miu Miu and feels honored to be repping the label. And as for the transition from acting to print modeling? Turns out it’s not so foreign.

“It’s kind of funny because when I was younger I did a lot of print and then I went more into acting so I had a little deja vu when I went back to it, doing the whole modeling thing again,” she said. “I had such an amazing time filming especially working with Bruce Weber.”

Though the campaign might seem far from controversial–the teen actress is covered up and her poses are hardly suggestive–some critics have taken issue with her age, arguing that she’s too young to be the face of a label whose clothes are meant to be worn by and priced for grown ups.

Barneys’ Amanda Brooks Shares the Secrets to Her Flawless Hair

Barneys’ Amanda Brooks Shares the Secrets to Her Flawless Hair

It’s a weird fangirl-ish thing to ask Amanda Brooks, Barney’s impeccably well-heeled and well-coiffed fashion director, about her hair. But enough people had told me they were “obsessed” with it so I sucked it up, channeled Emily Weiss at Into the Gloss, and asked her about her locks after we had finished chatting about $39,000 crocodile backpacks at Barneys launch event for The Row’s new luxury handbag line.

Brooks was caught a little off guard by the question, laughing at first, but then, in a very refreshingly down-to-earth way, delved into her surprisingly low maintenance hair care routine.

“I do my hair myself,” Brooks said. “I have to say, I have good hair–my dad gave me his hair.” Which, she confesses, is a blessing and a curse. “I have a lot of hair–which means I also have a lot of hair on my legs, so there is a pay off. I shave them don’t worry.”

And in keeping with fashion’s latest trend of not washing your hair, Brooks only washes it once a week.
