Amy Winehouse will be remembered not only for her amazing contributions to music, but also for her signature style.

From Vogue Paris to Chanel runways, Amy’s bouffant and winged eyeliner have made her an inspiration to many designers, editors, and stylists. Even up-and-coming rapper Kreayshawn’s draws from Winehouse’s repertoire.

Congratulations to Steven Kolb!

Thursday, Jul 21, 2011 / 8:33 PM

A big congratulations to Steven Kolb on his new position as CEO of the CFDA!

LOS ANGELES–There were dozen of celebs at Tuesday night’s Miu Miu party to celebrate the brand’s new Noir line of sunglasses, but it was Hailee Steinfeld, the face of the brand and star of that fantastic Bruce Weber lensed-campaign, that sent flashbulbs popping. I caught up with the 14-year-old actress (who spent most of the evening chatting with Tavi Gevinson–new bestie alert?).

Steinfeld told us she’s “in love” with Miu Miu and feels honored to be repping the label. And as for the transition from acting to print modeling? Turns out it’s not so foreign.

“It’s kind of funny because when I was younger I did a lot of print and then I went more into acting so I had a little deja vu when I went back to it, doing the whole modeling thing again,” she said. “I had such an amazing time filming especially working with Bruce Weber.”

Though the campaign might seem far from controversial–the teen actress is covered up and her poses are hardly suggestive–some critics have taken issue with her age, arguing that she’s too young to be the face of a label whose clothes are meant to be worn by and priced for grown ups.

It’s a weird fangirl-ish thing to ask Amanda Brooks, Barney’s impeccably well-heeled and well-coiffed fashion director, about her hair. But enough people had told me they were “obsessed” with it so I sucked it up, channeled Emily Weiss at Into the Gloss, and asked her about her locks after we had finished chatting about $39,000 crocodile backpacks at Barneys launch event for The Row’s new luxury handbag line.

Brooks was caught a little off guard by the question, laughing at first, but then, in a very refreshingly down-to-earth way, delved into her surprisingly low maintenance hair care routine.

“I do my hair myself,” Brooks said. “I have to say, I have good hair–my dad gave me his hair.” Which, she confesses, is a blessing and a curse. “I have a lot of hair–which means I also have a lot of hair on my legs, so there is a pay off. I shave them don’t worry.”

And in keeping with fashion’s latest trend of not washing your hair, Brooks only washes it once a week.

Happy 77th Birthday to Giorgio Armani!

Monday, Jul 11, 2011 / 7:30 PM

Today fashion legend Giorgio Armani turns 77 years-young. (I say “young” because he still wears a speedo on the beach.) Giorgio Armani is the original mastermind of multi-label fashion houses – From Armani Privé to A|X, Armani’s followers include everyone from Victoria Beckham to Snooki, and all those in between.

A few weeks ago, we showed you a trailer for The Guts of Duckie Brown, a documentary about Duckie Brown designers Steven Cox and Daniel Silver. Last night, I attended a private screening of the very short (about 15 minutes long) film. It’s not the most in-depth documentary I’ve ever seen, but it is very entertaining and well-done and, despite its short length, is successful at telling a story that conveys what Duckie Brown is about and how Steven and Daniel’s partnership works. Chanel front rows and party lines, especially over the past few years, always draw an elite group of Chanel-clad ladies who might collectively be referred to as “it girls.” Actresses, models, socialites and DJs make up this group but what they all seem to have in common is beauty, great style and some kind of cultural relevance that Karl or someone at Chanel recognizes as fitting with the Chanel brand. That and the ability to look amazing in Chanel and always catch our attention.

About two years ago, Chanel threw a dinner party and announced an “official list” of five Chanel ambassadors: Leigh Lezark, Jen Brill, Poppy Delevingne, Vanessa Traina, and Caroline Sieber. Others, like Elisa Sednaoui and, back in the day, Ines de la Fressange, have been casually referred to as Karl’s muses.

But, there are still others, like Rachel Bilson, Alexa Chung and newest and youngest member Elle Fanning (!), whose “roles” in the Chanel world were undefined, until now. A tip sheet for last night’s Chanel couture show, revealed by the Telegraph’s Belinda White, literally places bold names expected to attend into a carefully ranked multi-tier system. The categories range from “Japanese celebrities” to “Chanel Ambassadress.” Here they are in what I’m guessing is ascending order.

Sea of Shoes blogger Jane Aldridge and almost every other well-known fashion blogger on the planet have imparted their style advice in a comprehensive new book called Style Yourself (WeldonOwen, $24.95), which is billed as “inspired advice from the world’s top personal style bloggers.” Everyone from Tavi to Susie Lau to Jazzi McGill is in there (as well as contributions from 92 other bloggers). The book is in essence a guide to styling for everyone from aspiring fashion bloggers to regular folks who don’t know the difference between a dolman sleeve and a bell sleeve and how to tell which style looks best on them.

We chatted with Jane, who penned the introduction to the book, to find out why she decided to lend her voice and eye to this project, what she’s got in the works, and her take on the whole fashion blogger phenomenon.

I guess we saw this coming. Rachel Zoe and Rodger Berman’s three-month old baby boy already has a limited edition Missoni stroller and what appears to be a Missoni baby blanket. Last week, Zoe was photographed buying baby Skyler a pinstriped suit jacket and baby blue pinstriped shorts at some children’s clothing boutique in L.A. And most recently, PopSugar caught baby Zoe leaving Barneys with his mom looking very hip in a pair of his own black round-lense sunglasses. I never knew babies wore sunglasses. But if any baby were to wear sunglasses, it would be this baby.

One of L.A.’s youngest paparazzi targets, Skyler already knows the importance of stylish eyewear. Hopefully, this is only the beginning.

Running what’s arguably the most important menswear trade show in the world isn’t a tiny task, but that doesn’t fluster Pitti Immagine CEO Raffaello Napoleone. He even took time to speak with us during the fair, which took place in Florence last week. We chatted about the history of Pitti, why he chose two Los Angeles-based designers to lead this season’s program, and where to go in Florence for a bit of peace and quiet.

Delfina Delettrez creates jewelry that is not for the shy of heart. Her dramatic baubles take the form of eyes, arachnids, skeletons, and frogs, mixing the surreal with the luxurious.

These aren’t basic jewels for trophy wives: these are amazing artistic creations meant for the bold. It makes sense that Delfina designs for strong women, as her life is filled with them. (Her mother, Silvia Venturini, is the creative director for accessories at Fendi).

We love Delettrez’s designs so much, we included them in our fantasy holiday wish list . So we were thrilled to have the opportunity to interview the young designer about her line.

The Cultural Services of the French Embassy, in a move sure to delight fashion-lovers and Francophiles alike, is continuing their style-centric Breakfast at 972 panel series—the same one that saw us chatting it up with Olivier Theyskens about a month ago.

Yesterday morning’s speaker? None other than super-cobbler Pierre Hardy, he of the skyscraper geometric wedges and to-die-for Gap collabs.

In addition to designing his eponymous accessories label and working with the aforementioned all-American high street store, Hardy’s spent over two decades as the Creative Director of men’s and women’s footwear at Hermès, where he later put his stamp on the house’s jewelry. Add to that his responsibilities as Balenciaga’s resident shoe designer, and it’s a wonder that the bespectacled cobbler still finds time to serve as a teacher and mentor to art/design students on a weekly basis!

Here are some of the choice takeaways from the morning’s chat, which was once again moderated by Charlotte Sarkozy and Timothée Verrecchia:
