I work on film sets and at a studio and sneakers are de rigeur...I try to stick to off-white converse, and I have a pair of brown Keds slip-ons that I love. Otherwise I try to sneak in ballet flats and flat boots, or at least have a pair in my bag so I can go out after work without looking like I came from the gym! I'm used to it (being around equipment all day can be dangerous, and real shoes just arent practical sometimes) but it took a while.

Please...I feel underdressed when I go home! In Brooklyn its totally acceptable to wear Converse to a dive bar, but whenever I go home (north Jersey) everyone else is rocking sparkly halter tops and spiked heels to places where I wouldnt put my bag down... Also, no one seems to have the "Dresses for day" thing down, which is basically my entire summer wardrobe.
Its okay though, I am on my way home now wearing jeans and flats and I'll probably see them all out later tonight...

The only ones I really crave are the cotton ruffled kind from Steven Alan (which are currently onsale for $20...and yet I still dont want to buy!) And even so, I think I picture myself wearing them around the house when no one else is there more than when a guy will be...

I've tried to do this. I just find it hard when I'm getting dressed to meet friends and thinking, oh, everyone has already seen all of my dresses, there are pictures of me wearing this all over Facebook, I wish I just bought a new random dress at F21 so I could throw it on now!
Then again I do realize its completely narcissistic to assume that people remember what I wear! And you do get way more compliments on things that dont look like you threw them on because they were $25. So my solution lately to to buy as much vintage as I can (definitely doesnt count!) and use it to accessorize things I already have so I dont feel boring.

Last year I spent $85 on a black studded duffel bag at Pema on Bedford Ave and it may have been the purchase of he year. It looks good, gets a ton of compliments, holds enough stuff without being unliftable, but best of all I dont freak out if it falls out of overhead storage.

In general, I get where you're coming from...but can I just say, I've made ONE exception to this rule and its the Fresh palette that you have in the picture. Out of the 8 colors, I regularly use 7 (um, not all at once.) And since they pretty much cover my needs, its the only thing in my bag except mascara and lip gloss.
My personal pet peeve though is that if you drop it, one shadw breaks and everything else is ruined. I havent done that yet with this one.

I love Kiehl's, which I got turned onto by an old roommate. And they always give samples, which in turn gets me hooked on whatever I havent tried yet...
Jolie in NYC usually has good beauty rec's, though.
