That's a really fantastic article- long but definitely worth a read.
Unfortunately I don't think it's realistic to believe that any sort of collective movement, like the one he suggests, is capable of happening- because far too many Americans are incapable of downsizing in terms of work or the levels of consumption to which they have become accustomed. The wheels have spun too far. But on an individual level I think it is possible and certainly ideal in theory if not exactly in practice.
