Why don't they just slip in something about finding once in a recession sales? While still not affordable for everyone, 60-75% off makes a lot of designer items accessible to many more people than usual. And if they need product placement, I'm sure Gilt would lend themselves well to a fashion catastrophe *sarcasm* of how to maintain a designer wardrobe on a budget.

#1, the only reason I'm not so sure about SJPs vision is because I think it would be more normal than character. I don't think an SJP styled Carrie would look bad, but I don't think she would have the quirkiness and some of the over the top touches that PF includes. And I think a movie needs a bit of that.

Agree with #5. I remember buying a Theory dress at Neiman Marcus, then seeing the exact same dress with a different label at a smaller chain store. I think the difference in price was $50 or less, but there's a very good reason there aren't copyrights for fashion designs

There are so many people who don't wear these things well until they're at least 20. Agreed about the midriff tops, but for most of the rest the list is ridiculous. And 20? Seriously? Way to make those who haven't even hit 30 yet feel like dinosaurs.

There would probably be less uproar if these were a direct ripoff. There are enough things that are different - as pointed out in the post - that make the Topshop shoes an interpretation rather than blatant design theft. Also, while it's not $700, $120 isn't cheap, so the Topshop version could be at least decent in terms of quality.

It seems people comment so negatively because there are different degrees of copying: out and out fakes aren't quite the same as inspired bys where enough has changed that the item isn't trying to be exactly like the original.

I'd rather hear this than complains about how haaard it is to wake up early and take a photo. Not to say there's no effort involved in modeling, but it's not a bad job to have if you're genetically fortunate enough to get it.

I'll second #3 and third #2. I hope AIC continues in this direction. Though the question of whether this should be ripped off at all is up in the air, it is at least a blatant ripoff rather than an "inspired by" that's not trying to be anything more than that.

As a Betty fan I hope this isn't the last season.

As for Patricia Field, the collaborations actually remind me of Miuccia Prada's quote about keeping things separate. There are some great artists who are horrible songwriters, amazing music producers who are terrible DJs. Fashion's a big umbrella, and while it's nice to see people branch out sometimes being really incredible at one aspect is enough.

@13, for stains on delicate, beaded or intricately detailed items, try a hand steamer. No chemicals, but the blast can usually get anything out. You can find a decent hand steamer for $40 or less anywhere from Amazon to Target. Pays for itself after a few freshen ups to dry clean only items.

If you like macarons, Dalloyau has some pretty amazing flavors as well. No collaboration, but the larger boxes do share a similar shade of red with Louboutin shoes if there has to be a connection.

Just spotted a Facebook friend under a completely different name. She also does PR for some smaller designers. @5, maybe you don't have to worry that women in fashion are buying into this anyway. Seems like an awful lot of lifted photos on the female RSVP side.

The exposed platform and thicker heel on the Steve Maddens make a definite difference, not to mention the wider peep toe looks a bit frumpy. That said, still not sure I see $900 worth of shoe in the McQueens.

Just met with the wonderfully upbeat Andre J, who said he stopped reading blogs because of all the negativity. I relayed a story about TechCrunch editor Michael Arrington, who was spat on by someone who didn't like the fact that he didn't cover his startup. Arrington's commented a few times on the mob mentality that exists on the internet, and how out of control it can get. Other bloggers (non-fashion/beauty) have gotten death threats, and I'm sure plenty of nasty comments. Sometimes the blog itself has a negative tone, and this can carry over. In general, you can simultaneously take comfort in and shake your head at the fact that the ignorant, negative comments supported by anonymity happen all over the internet.

With the right promotion this is a great idea. They'll have to get a large enough audience to make it financially viable, but Threadless did it with t-shirts, maybe they can be the ones to do it with dresses and other clothing.

Carlotta, we were in Paris too and initially had the same though. Even the invitations suggested it wouldn't be the party that New York or London were.

But for Vogue Paris, it made sense. We did see people buying, and hear cash registers ringing which is the most important part. At the end of it all, maybe the fact that there wasn't as much of a party helped with sales.

Looks like Bebe should have invested a little more in the Spanx/retouching budget. The awkward lines from the model's tights are the first thing we noticed.

But to the original point, #4 is right: you can see the difference in a low quality image, surely it would be more obvious in person. Those who like the style but can only afford it at the Bebe budget certainly aren't detracting from the Valentino (or those who saved to splurge on it).

Now heart shaped nipple tassels will be accessible to all! Not quite sure that this would be the high point of the democratization of fashion, but we haven't yet seen Shoehan so it's hard to say if this would be the low.
