Love hearing about the secret green life of non-"eco" designers. Wish I were drying in the CA sun right now...

Can't speak for the Target sheets, but bamboo clothing really does feel like a cross between good cotton (think James Perse cotton) and real silk. It's especially awesome for drape-y shirts -- my favorites right now are from Sworn Virgins.

Rilo Kiley black and silver concert tee - $20
AE long sleeve blue scoop neck - $20
Del Forte organic Dahlia bootcuts - $150 (after discount from Tobi)
Hempest recycled black tire belt - $24
Simple Shoes Sugar sneakers in blue suede - $30 (after discount from Zappos)
Unknown-designer bright green fake leather bag from Marshall's - $60 plus $20 to get it spruced up at the cobbler's this year
H&M black cord jacket - $25 (??? very old...)

Total: $349 (not counting somewhat bling-y wedding ring)

WAY higher than I would have guessed since I haven't gotten any big ticket items and all I had to do today was go to class. The little things really add up!

I'm with arcane on this one -- PETA'S methods totally overshadow their message. I understand the instinct to do wild things to get into the papers, but the result has been that a lot of people out there now dismiss animal activists as crazy and extremist. Imagine how many more people would listen to PETA's points if they weren't so turned off by their antics.

Personally, I have a bad habit of leaving hats at parties once the booze warms up my ears. Accidentally forgetting a $200 hat would seriously ruin my night. But Stewart + Brown's got 3 styles of organic cashmere ear flap hats on sale for around $50. Tempting...

I'm with Kimmi on this one -- even though I LOVED those high waisted Del Fortes, I'm so tiny they looked like they were eating me. Sigh. I'd probably follow more fads if I had an easier body type, but for me, it's all about what looks good (which mean yeah, I'm on the skinnies in boots bandwagon.)

Entry: Big Bags - A Soliloquy

I carry a big bag, but it's normally pretty empty* -- that way I can add to it if I take off a layer or run to the store. I absolutely hate adding to our plastic bag collection if I don't have to.

* Empty being one binder, lotion, wallet, cell, keys, ipod, beverage container (water/coffee), thumb drive, tons of pens. The big concession to my shoulder pains has been leaving the laptop at home and consolidating school notes into a single binder when possible. It seems to be working, which sadly means I can't get away with asking for as many back rubs.

Yikes. I'm with pretty much every commenter here -- if "greener" disposable water bottles isn't a blatant case of greenwashing, I don't know what is.

I third the amen. Women don't blink at $600 Jimmy Choos; why not recognize Natalie's designs as another high end option? I personally don't have a place in my life for $300 shoes, vegan or not, but if I did, I'd be pretty happy that I could make a conscientious choice with my money!

A few years ago I decided to accept myself the way I am and only buy clothing that looks good un-ironed, un-steamed, and un-dry-cleaned. Not only do I tend to forget that stuff, but I found that my high maintenance clothing usually wilted before I did.

Thigh high legwarmers over skinny jeans. I know, I know. But at least my knees are warm.

Hubby prefers funky, punky styles, but when it comes to shapes, will ALWAYS chose the style that shows off my waist. It's nothing about wanting some 50s personality, just that he thinks womanly shapes are sexy. I don't think the fascination with the 50s look is so much about the stereotype of women back then as the fact that fashion designers emphasized what's sexy about our bodies (curves) instead of hiding us in babydolls and bubble hems.

Oh, about men liking women who cook? Of course they do. And most women I know like men who cook. Go figure :)

Ooh, awesome shop, guest person! Can't believe I missed them when I lived around the corner and am only now discovering them that I'm 200 miles away. Thank goodness for flexible returns!

Entry: Online Shopping: Perk or Peril?

I find that shopping online actually prevents more impulse buys than it generates -- none of that end-of-the-shopping trip exhaustion when you just want to buy something, anything to make your outing worthwhile! These days I browse online a little every day, bookmark things I love, then come back to them to see if I still love them a week later (or if they've gone on sale.) So far, I'm 50/50 with new brands and sizes, so I try to stick with free shipping/free return spots.

Sometimes I feel a little guilty about all the wasted packaging, but sarahchivonne's right about the gas thing. Plus, online retailers have a smaller eco footprint because they don't have to pay for store fronts! Hm, maybe I'm stretching things...

Guest #9 has clearly not seen the Larsen Gray in person - super cute, carefully crafted, and made of organic fabric. I'll take less "sucking" for more earth-saving any day, but then again, neither the original nor the knockoff is really my style...
