Entry: Paris in the Summer

I am half American but I grew up outside of the US and mostly in Europe and I've found that people tend to stand out as tourists when wearing: Uggs, fanny packs, university sweatshirts (also things such as t-shirts with CIA or FBI written on them), etc.. Just try to wear things that you like and are comfortable on you (especially if you are doing alot of walking) but are also pretty and chic. Don't to try too hard to look stereotypically 'french' especially since if its not your usually style, but do try to look nice and presentable to represent yourself well and not stand out too much. Make sure to have enough room in your suitcase for any shopping you do while there! And if you are going in a group don't shout loudly in English and point obnoxiously at stuff, be polite and try to learn a little French (if you don't speak it already) before you go. I hope this helps and I hope you enjoy your trip!

i'm not exactly sure I know what your looking for but try this website:

http://www.trashydiva.com/site/indexSHOP.html

some of them aren't that great and some are overly floral-y and printed but if you scroll though there are some cute dresses. I have one of the ones from the last row (the trixie2 dress, $34) and its really comfortable and cool in the summer.

no I don't, I'm really picky about hygiene so I would feel uncomfortable repeating an item of clothing without washing it, but that's just my personal preference (I also feel gross if I don't wash my hair every morning so maybe its just some weird thing with me). Obviously there are some exceptions, I only own two coats (one super warm woolen one and one light trench that doubles as a raincoat) and there's no way I will ever be able to afford or have the time to get them cleaned every night. Also, sometimes if I wear a pair of jeans but don't go out of the house and don't sweat or anything gross like that I'll hang up the jeans to let them air and then wear them a couple days later. But otherwise I wont repeat an item of clothing more than once a week because (I don't do my laundry until Sunday).

while i don't really like it when store make nearly identical copies of designer items (like the sandals above) I don't necessarily think you should be bashing stores like Urban Outfitters for offering affordable fashion for people that cannot afford designer. Obviously spending $50 a month on clothes from places like Forever 21 is probably not as smart as spending more money and shopping less on higher quality and better designed items.

However, some people only shop rarely (ex. I only really shop twice a year and now that I have enough properly fitting clothes to last a week to a week and a half before i do laundry I hardly shop at all)and buy only a couple items on these shopping trips and despite the careful planning and saving cannot afford more than Urban Outfitters. Additionally, I only just moved to a country that has vintage stores this year..and the only one in biking distance to me (I can't afford a car) is a goodwill that only has clothes size 14 on up (I'm a 4) so its kind of off limits). It's just a little snobbby to suggest that everyone can afford to invest their money in expensive clothing, and that not doing so is due to poor choices and a lack of knowledge.

Also, all my clothing is from 'lower' prices stores (anywhere from Marshalls and Target to on sale Urban and Zara) and I have never had a problem with quality. I wash and dry my clothes in regular washing machines and they manage to still fit properly and hold all their seams together through regular wear.

um...ok I realize now that my comment was probably unnecessarily long and that my situation probably doesn't apply to the majority of people who frequent this site. I hope I didn't offend anyone (especially not guest at 9:50pm) with what I said, I just got a little frustrated because of all the people (not just on this website or on this post) that are always saying that cheap clothes are evil and assuming that everyone has access to vintage stores and is capable of putting aside money for investment pieces instead of food or university tuition.

Also, in some ways I do completely agree with your point (guest at 9:50pm) and now that I have enough clothes to keep me from wandering around naked (I'm 19, and up until 2 or 3 years ago I was still growing and needed to buy new stuff each school year) I plan to stop buying clothes almost entirely and put aside any spare money so that someday I can buy something a little nicer.

Ok, now I'm done and I promise I'll quit with the excessively lengthy posts and leave this alone, especially since its too late for me to be making any sort of sense. Sorry for the rant

I actually think that kind of wardrobe is way easier and it forces you to be more creative. Mine isn't quite that small but I have just enough clothes to get me through a week to a week and a half (that way I have enough time to do laundry before I run out) plus a couple extra formal things for super fancy events. I rarely buy new stuff and its usually to replace things I own that don't fit or I can't wear anymore (cuz they ripped or something). Sometimes its annoying but most of the time I like it.

I wish my SAT had that. It was pretty easy but seeing that would have made things more fun (although, the SAT probably isn't supposed to be fun so maybe that's why). It's probably good they didn't have that though, I might have started giggling and I don't think that would be well received by the proctors.

ugh, i hate statements like this. yea, I'm sure some American women are unsophisticated/sex obsessed but I'm willing to bet there are also some Italian women out there that are just the same.

I think wearing jeans in Italy should be fine, as I saw quite a few Italians wearing them last time I was there. However, what I did see on like 99% of Italian women (not the tourists mind you, they had the typical shorts and white sneakers and a camera) was white linen pants worn with a white thong that was showing in a very obvious way. But maybe I was in the non-stylish section of Italy (it was out in Tuscany, not Rome or Milan). Although I suppose if you found pants like that, that didn't expose your underwear it might be ok?

oh, I'd also like to note that the last time I was in Italy it was 2003 or so, so maybe they don't have that issue with their pants anymore. Also, check stylebubble.typepad.com for cool ideas on where to shop, she lives in London and has really unique style so if you browse around her blog a bit I'm sure you'll find something

For me it seriously depends on the length of the trip. The last couple flights I've taken have been 27 hours long and so I wore slim yoga pants, a soft tank top, cardigan, and ballet flats. For shorter flights I wear a comfortable dress (probably made out of cotton and with a little stretch), a cardigan, and flats. I've never flown in the winter time but if I did I suppose I would wear boots because they are my biggest shoes and that way they don't waste up space in my bag.

do you have any tips for the other end of the spectrum? I can't fit into an A cup but shopping in the little kids section is embarrassing (im 19) and also uncomfortable because even though my chest is tiny my ribcage fits into regular bras (34). So I usually end up with red marks around my ribs or with my cups practically falling off because I have nothing to fill them with. So. Annoying.
Tips?

I don't see why he's so bothered by the 'mini-bloggers', its not like they have any competition with print media. Obviously its not professional but it provides something that typical fashion magazines don't. I buy fashion magazines when I want to read articles written by qualified journalists who are knowledgeable about the industry and see editorials styled and shot by professionals. But I still love fashion blogs (although more often by the older bloggers than the 'mini-bloggers' because some of them them tend to be stylish only because they are privileged) because they provide a look at the different opinions and ideas had by people not involved in the industry. Its more personal, and gives others a look at different individuals ways of playing and experimenting with fashion. And I have my own fashion blog, because for me, its like a form of digital scrapbook/journal - a way to collect all the beautiful photos I love and talk about things that I'm interested in without wasting so much paper and while getting to connect with other people who have the same interests.

Almost a year and a half ago I bought one of these in Japan. Its sort of a peachy nude silk and super comfortable and soft. And it has these huge slouchy pockets that I just love. I feel like the really nice fabric makes up for any sloppyness that an anorak might give off. Best of all, it was $80 on sale for...$20!!

I had this same problem with a vintage suitcase I bought over the summer. I stuffed it with dryer sheets and shut it tight and left it for a day and night - the next morning it smelled great and still does. I've hear alot of people also try activated charcoal (I suppose you would put the charcoal in some sort of sack and set it inside?) which supposedly absorbs and neutralizes smells. Finally, if none of those work you can sprinkle baking soda all over the inside and leave it over night, in the morning dump out / vacuum out the baking soda (this also works to get smells out of carpets and shoes, especially if the baking soda is mixed with a bit of essential oil).

Entry: How to Get an Internship as a College Grad?

Don't you have to pay extra during undergrad as well? At my university you have to pay like, 2,000 to get credit for internships. I would try sending out resumes to companies you are very interested in working for, and in you cover letter explain that although you are a college graduate you are very interested in interning for them. I've heard of people getting internships that way after they get out of school, also, it might lead to a future job with them if you manage to impress them during your internship.
