I grew up in the 60s and that is what my Mom wore (and did into the 90s when she passed away. The little robes that went over them are called "dusters", don't ask me why. Me, I feel sexier in a slouchy t shirt and undies.

I bought the opening ceremony ones on pre-order at full retail price and sold them on ebay for almost $1000.00! They actually looked awful on me.

I too have had such boot problems in the past. The problem is, you need more than one boot, if you can do it. You need an ankle boot that stops just short of the ankle, you need one that does not hug the ankle, and you need one like the one that is pictured. I figured that out last year, and now I have several perfect boots that I rotate, depending ona the proportions of the clothing I am wearing. Sometimes, a higher shaft ankle boot just does not work with, say, a skirt that hits at or slightly below the knee. And then there is the platform vs. no platform, peep toe platform vs non-platform peep toe. It can go on and on. And then there is the high boot- tighter around the leg, or slouchy, flat or heeled, stilleto heel or chunky. And forget about the OTK ones, they only look good on models. I kind of think they are impractical. But, if you want just one boot that you will love forever and never goes out of style, check out the Rick Owens ankle boot. They are super comfortable and you will look effortlessly cool in them.
Oh, I kind of long for the days when fall came and my mom would take me for new school shoes and that was it. Why is it so complicated now?

here's the link to the Rick Owens boots- they will last forever, so if you do a cost per wear analysis, you can rationalize the expenditure.

I ordered two 3 packs of the other color combos yesterday. I had just the same idea of wearing socks with heeled sandals- perfect for this cooler weather we are having in nyc! I have a feeling they will sell out fast.

Anyone can totally do a light lip- you just need to find the correct shade/consistency. I have naturally purplish pink lips (weird, i know), and I always looked awful when I tried it. (Nars Chelsea Girl, Belle du Jour, MAC Hug). But I finally found a Bobbi Brown tinted lip gloss that gives me the lighter lip without looking like a corpse. The way it blends with my natural lip color gives me the light lip that I had been searching for. And it goes without saying that it needs to be balanced with a smokey darkly lined eye

I don't think that is Sophia Lamarr with Isaac- I think it's Amanda Lepore. But they kind of look like the same person.

I so agree with you about Blake's braid- too neat and stiff looking. I too am growing may hair just a bit longer so I can wear braids (and this was before the Wang runway show). My hair stylist does some shows and styles the Vena Cava girls as well, and she has been doing my hair in French braids all around my head until I can have a longer one (or two). I got my hair done on Friday in braids and they are still in! (albeit a little messier, but I like that). When you put your hair in braids, no one knows if you are having a bad hair day, and it adds an instant edge to your look.

FYI on the Dick Page appearance at Bloomies- according to their rep "he doesn't touch a face". His team will be there. I had that experience with Bobbi Brown's appearance at Barneys- I had one of her team and I never looked worse in my life. Doesn't seem worth a $100.00 reservation fee.

I think that fashion has become more democratic now, but there is still the elitist factor, and no matter how accessible everything is, due to the internet and TV, you can't just "be" in that world if you want to. You must be accepted by the powers that be, be it a designer, a stylist, or a magazine editor. It's sort of like getting into Studio 54 back in the day (I got in twice). We can read the tweets of Joe Zee and Derek Blasberg, but we are still just outsiders looking in. So in my opinion, deep down, it hasn't changed that much. Ugly Betty is a fictional character. There's no one at Vogue that looks like that.

Thanks for the recap. I had a ticket but just didn't feel like going. Sounds like I didn't miss much, although I would have liked to hear what Robin had to say. She is so smart, and I would have liked to see the twins' hair in person. They go to my salon for waxing, but I have yet to see them. And I would have bonded over the platforms- as a short person, I love them too!

Thanks for this post. Who would have known that I have something in common with Karl Lagerfeld? When I was a preschooler, I used to change my clothes several times a day, testing my styling skills at an early age. I was obsessed with getting my look "just right", which should have been a clue to what my career choice should have been.

Who, may I ask, will be buying her overpriced and too-precious items? I think she is probably a few years too late. There are so many empty stores on Madison, I don't think hers will last very long. Sorry, just my opinion.

All I can say is- sickening. Subliminal messages crafted to breed a lifetime of allegiance to Brooks Bros in a kid's book? Despicable.

Would she have gotten the same notice and insider status if she never used her connection to Ernest and mom Mariel and went by her given name of Dree Crisman? Just sayin'.

This is fabulous! Just because a person is in a wheelchair (or otherwise challenged) doesn't mean that she doesn't have great personal style or want to look good. I have always said jokingly, that as we get older, (with all the things that go with it like sickness and disability) we are going to see designers putting stylish stuff out there for this increasing demographic. Like canes and walkers. They already have casts in black for the fashionable person with broken bones. Bravo to Wendy Mullin for her design!

I am living proof that you can be into fashion, look good and still have a brain in your head. I was valedictorian of my nursing school class and my husband is a physician. I think that being interested in things other than your chosen field makes you a more interesting person. I have had many conversations with well known doctors about fashion, beauty, and entertainment. But I also have to say that when I was younger, I was very conflicted about showing that I was into all this "superficial" stuff. But I can't help it- I was born this way.

This is so heartbreaking! Even though she was younger than my daughter, I really admired her quirkiness and her very unique personal style. Such an individual in a sea of fashionista conformity. I hope she is at peace now.
