Totally agree w/ 11. For those of you who love fashion on the consumer level, the sales are great. But for the people in the industry--just like the auto makers, financial employees, etc--this isn't a joke, this is their livelihood.

was see by chloe EVER runway worthy? Vince, Philip Lim, etc are all made in china. not a huge deal.
also, one cannot equate "Made in China" with crappy quality...it depends on the material, factory, and labor they use, not so much the location of production.

Honestly I work with a major (mens) stylist/fashion editor right now and you will not be expected to strut around wearing Givenchy and Balenciaga. As long as you look presentable, it's more about knowing your shit and being able to work hard...it's not about "omg what is the intern wearing."
sorry if any of that sounded mean, but seriously it's not about you...

I would say, look for assistant positions--either assisting a freelance stylist or see if any magazines have vacancies for fashion assistants.
have you done any internships which might have given you some contacts??

Not a fan at all. I want to snip off the asymmetrical shoulder and leave it strapless. The applique flowers are annoying and I can't believe she chose white....this is not a vow renewal. But to each her own...
Jason will become a household name, but I don't see his line flying off the racks at Bergdorf because of this. The price point is too high, and those who can afford it do not let Michelle Obama dictate their shopping habits. HOWEVER, we now have a front runner for the next Target collection....

J.Crew + Wu + Narciso--what a formulaic rendering of her greatest hits.
Why not actually put her in some fashion? Perhaps a Balenciaga crin dress? The cover/editorial they describe sound better suited for Vanity Fair. It seems more like a profile than an editorial.

I'm not sure the whole Michelle Obama wave of publicity will be a good one in the long term for Wu. Think about it like this--Oscar de la Renta has gained in status because Laura Bush and Hillary Clinton wore his stuff, but he was definitely well known before that. Jason Wu....well-known by fashion people but not really outside of NY.
Won't it just be gimmicky, and he'll be forever known as "the Michelle Obama designer?" Where does he go from here?? When people get tired and stop wanting a piece of her (not in the dirty sense), will the clothing sell? Look at James Galanos...famous ONLY because a first lady wore his stuff...it's actually a very hard position Wu is in, in my opinion.

it's not about him being black and anyone can be interested in fashion. it's when they go and shit where i eat, so to speak, that it's annoying. if he wanted to WORK in fashion, well maybe he should have thought of that year ago...#12 has it perfectly

i dont really like the row or elizabeth and james either, and neither really designed by the olsens. they are very stylish girls and good businesswomen, thats about it.
i think people should do what they do and let others do their jobs. why must members of his entourage displace people actually at the shows for work?

I want to know what happens after her contract expires. Will they re-hire her?? ELLE did the show for publicity, not so much to fill a much needed position within the company.

Obviously had the serious chops=no prior experience in fashion and job as a Chinese military analyst? If you need a reality show to get into fashion, maybe you shouldn't be in it at all....

Thankfully commenters 18 & 20 got it right...it was an excellent piece and by no means offensive, unless you take yourself and fashion SO goddamn seriously that you are offended he pokes fun at Karl Lagerfeld's personal style or John Galliano's sometimes oversize garments.

Pretty tacky of them to carry on their affair so publicly...I remember all this stuff about them traveling and working together...how could anyone NOT see this coming?
Feel bad for his wife + kids. Also, don't most people in fashion actually hate him? heard stuff along those lines

Honestly, I LOVE the idea of Fashion's Night Out but I doubt people will be compelled to buy. If you have the money to buy a PS1, you will do so regardless as to whether Jack and Lazaro tell you which color...
Sure, some girls might ask Alex Wang to sign their new T tanks...but who is going to make major purchases on Sept. 10 if they wouldn't already? If you can afford to, support fashion whenever and wherever you want to, not just on Sept. 10.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that the events will draw in a lot of fanboys/girls who will go for the events but not necessarily be able to afford the stuff, especially when a lot of events are at Barneys, BG, Opening Ceremony, etc...sure, Macy's is thrown in there, but it's a lot of high end product.
Finally, who's going to make an investment purchase at one of the aforementioned stores when there's a TON of people around, there's noise, drinks, games, etc...not exactly conducive to serious spending. Sigh...

I think WhoWhatWear does a good job doing what they do now. However, sites like thecontributingeditor-founded specifically for editorial-only fashion-and hintmag.com have been doing online editorial forever. It's not exactly an original concept.
I feel like editorial is the opposite of the WhoWhatWear mentality..editorial is the least accessible aspect of fashion content, and better left that way. No one wants a super-literal editorial. The servicey, how-to type pieces are their strength. No one reads InStyle for ground breaking editorial...they know their strength is in service, where-to-buy, etc....
