I think style is from the heart, not the wallet. Kate Moss became an icon because she could mix beat up thrift store finds with couture and make it her own. Fashion has changed in the last 20 years - it is no longer about elitism or nuance; it is mainstream commercialized and utilitatrian. Marc Jacobs is 'technically' a designer but he sells things that are just as low-quality in his much higher priced Marc line and it is referred to as a bridge collection. Fashion in America is not about art, but commerce and good for SJP for at least practicing what she preaches.

Anna looks like a snail! I love it. haha... Giselle's dress was awful, although she looked beautiful.
Bee Schaffer looked fabulous - I love Olivier! And I liked Coco's dress - sooo daring. :-) Christina Ricci looked AMAZING! I love love love the dress. :-)

BEST: Bee Schaffer looked great! Tretini, cause she rocked the theme. Coco because I love her dress. Daphne because her make up and hair were BEYOND amazing. Ashley Olsen, because her dress looked great on her (and her hair looked pretty - MK looked atrocious though!) and Christina. I thought she looked SOOO good.
WORST: CLaire Danes - Boring boring boring. Julia Roberts -seriously the dress and hair made look 100. MK - hideous. Charlotte Gainsbourgh - I worship Balenciaga but it did not flatter her and hair looked terrible. Michelle Trachtenberg- OLD LADY.
Not many people stuck to the theme, which was super disappointing! :-(

I was so sad not many people did the theme! It could have been soooo good. Christina Ricci, Coco, Daphne, Ashley Olsen, and Tretini looked the best.
Claire Danes, MK, Michelle Tratchenberg, and Julia Roberts -worst.

I really think that this should be renamed Vogue's WORST dressed list! Everyweek about 3 people look great and the others look ridiculous, revolting, boring or all of the above.
On this list Tretini and Lauren Santo Domingo looked great. Everyone else - not so much. Especially Lisa Aerin and Lake Bell - double yuck!

I know this is weird, but I love that French Vogue always features models and actresses smoking.

I don't get it either. She isn't particularly intelligent, articulate, pretty, or stylish. And you would think after here last collection debuted to such disparaging criticism people would accept that she is not truly talented either. It must be a cultural symbol of something...

Thanks mclare for clearing it up for us [eyeroll], even though I agree with you. I love that European magazine ESPECIALLY French ones really present a drastic beautiful edge to fashion. I really enjoy the thought provoking un-cliche spreads - it is never about traditional beauty or concepts. I often find American Vogue, among others, tasteless, dull, and uninspiring. In fact this spread really intrigued me so much I can back to look again.

Holly I agree! I think fashion is the purest form of art - it is wearable art and it is the art of self expression (which sounds a little cheesey i guess). but it IS art. With that being said SWOON! I love this shoot. the hair is amazing and the black and white is beyond. Bien sur!

I agree with guest 6:21. I thought the POINT of posting it was that it sounded sooo ridiculous! I mean it was such a cheesey thing to say, let alone WRITE on an open forum. I love it.

Totally Kimmi! That was HORRIBLE. Christian Louboutin should be ashamed she is wearing his shoes! I sooo hope Joe Zee is not a part of this horribly campy (although I CANNOT wait to watch) show.
PS - Not one of the potential candidates looke remotely 'stylish' but Anne's necklace was A-MAZING!

Today I was looking at Style.com at the Fall '08 ready-to-wear campaigns, and I was shocked by how hideously unattractive the models have become. Ali is pretty and she is probably the technical ideal weight for runway modeling before this insanity for malnutrition emerged among fashion - it is certainly not chic to be advocating for the concentration camp look which is what many models are dangerously close to acheiving. Gemma Ward is not emaciated and she is beautiful, sucessful, and looks great in clothing. I also thought it was ironic that the NBC opening clips to the story showed Kate Moss as an example of extremely skinny - she looks normal or even large by today's runway standards!
I am all for models being slim - they have to be, but I think it has gone too far when we can tell by looking at them that they are severaly unhealthy, massively underweight, and can only look lovely if they are photoshopped. And Carine does not often feature the skinniest models, just so you know. :-)

Right guest at 4:48! Isn't Juicy about the most hideous thing ever!?! Is that really um, considered fashion? It's sweatsuits with tacky things written on it with rhinestones and bright colors. It's Paris Hilton-y. It's just... yuck. The Juicy designer; her hair, the bad eye job, the white nail polish, the mini birkin - it's all too much. Repulsive. Please - never again. Thank you Anna for always, at least, dressing with class.

I do it EVERY SUMMER! Just wear natural clunky peices in gold or silver. Bangles are great choice. It's especially great for solid colored bikinis.
