top 3 people I'd rather see at the helm of such a site: (1) a roitfeld (for obvious reasons); (2) kirsten dunst (she seems like an actress that wouldn't just shill for corporate sponsors and come off as totally soul-less); (3) bee shaffer (to satisfy my curiosity of uptown girls)

I love finding surprisingly great pieces at mass market retailers, and I also like investing in not-surprisingly great pieces from the world's best designers. J Crew is neither here nor there; I haven't bought anything from them since 2004.

I don't really like what this girl is wearing here but I totally vive la difference. For me, profiles of young professionals whose outfits defy their profession's stereotypes are SO much more interesting than profiles of fashion insiders who dress predictably.

NYC is so diverse and exciting; I am glad that this streetwalker captures that. Keep profiling the typical fashionistas, but do continue to throw in a rainbow doctor every once in a while.

Trying to define a Brooklyn Girl as one archetype is as misguided as trying to define a Manhattan Girl. There are so many different neighborhoods and genres and subgenres of people in both boroughs. There are "haves" and "have-nots" and everything in between.

Here is the ONLY accurate description of a Brooklyn Girl: she lives in Brooklyn.

yoox has been doing that for a while. thank goodness because its original lavender boxes were making me squirm with shopper's shame every time i received a package at work. i mean, my co-workers probably thought i was getting presents from the easter bunny.

Entry: Will Accessories Make You Stick to Your Brands?

Another reason accessories are a good idea for brand expansion is that you don't need to be skinny to participate in luxury brands when you're just buying jewellery, shoes, and bags. Many of the trends from the past couple of seasons have not been exactly figure flattering (e.g., bubble hems, puff sleeves), so for people who are shopping for >size 2 bodies (especially as gifts), it's much safer to go with an accessory.

I'm afraid that I agree with 5 --there is a difference between a personal blog and a magazine-y blog (for lack of a better word) that assumes the royal "we" and relies less on individual personas and more on thematic interests.

My feeling as a reader is that someone like Suzie Bubble can pretty much write whatever she wants because her blog is an extension of her personality and I am a fan of her personality. But I don't really read Fashionista or similar sites (e.g., Corporette) for a cacophony of personal reactions and preferences, especially about non-fashion related items such as whether the Sex and the City plot has run its course.

I'm really not trying to be harsh. Today is a crappy dark day in NYC and I understand that people have moody days. But as a loyal, reader-ever-since-inception, fan of Fashionista, I just want to pipe in and say that my preference, for what it's worth, is to also tone down the non-fashion Haterade.

Finally, I think talking about the outfits in a movie/show/political campaign is totally interesting and relevant when it's specific. But general allusions to poopyness is kind of non-interesting.

Good topic! I recently realized that I'm just not a manicure girl. I tried, I really tried. It's not just the money or the time (all that TIME!) or the upkeep or the hazardous chemicals. It's more like... when I look down at my polished nails, they look like somebody else's hands.

I got a pair online at Target and wear them as leggings. Previously I'd only worn black leggings, but the dark jean wash is pretty good --more subtle than other colored leggings.

Whoa, they better get some big name LA-based actors to wear and be seen in those. Tired ideas like tongue-in-cheek t-shirts don't sell themselves.

A lot of it is about putting on appearances. Rightfully or not, the rich are under a lot of scrutiny these days, and the era of conspicuous consumption has been put on hold.

I heard an interview with someone at Gilt recently, and he said that the company is growing and doing amazingly well. I've personally seen 4 figure apparel and jewelry being sold out within 30 minutes of going on sale on that site. The rich people may no longer be spending 10k on a coat --but that's probably because they can now spend 2k on 5 of those same coats.

Wait, so... what was this story about? I'd call this an undercover ad except I can't fathom why an already successful company would stoop to this --especially using such an uninspired "voice" to project its image.

So, obviously I got up on the wrong side of bed today, but still, you are FASHIONISTA. Surely you can do better than simply point out that one online retailer sells items at significantly cheaper prices than another? Isn't that what NextTag is for?

everyday, i use the highest rated sunblock on the environmental working group (ewg.org)'s website that ranks sunscreens by effectiveness and toxicity to the skin. most sunblocks mostly block uvb, which gives you sunburns. but it's uva that gives you wrinkles... and instead of just believing product lables that vaguely promise "broad spectrum protection," i feel much better cross-checking with a non-profit org like ewg. the product i use is also vegan.

a good quality paper towel to dry my face every night acts as a gentle exfoliant (though, my facialist laughs at me for this but anyone who's ever worked on my face remarks on how clean it is).

for moisturizer, i use Complex 15, which my doctor recommended to my family years ago. it contains phospholipids, which i remember from high school bio class as the molecules that make up the cell membrane which attract and hold water molecules on the end of the phospholipid that faces outwards from the cell membrane.

i never buy anything with active ingredients that come in a tub, because once it's opened and exposed to the air --a lot of the good stuff disappears.

i also read the Beauty Brains blog --i love the idea that women who are upbeat and open-minded about skincare can also be SMART.

I haven't looked at Fashionista in a couple of weeks (months?) but I see that I've missed nothing.

Look dudes, it IS neat when you guys pick out a higher end and a lower end "inspired by" wardrobe couplet. Heck, even if they are both at the same price point, it's kind of neat.

But don't YOU even get tired of framing it in your "shaming" voice? It's SO unattractive and unamusing and uninformative.

Can you just, like, be a girl who likes clothes, and examine the details, the fabric, the print, the feel, the fit, and then give us your cute little take on whether you'd advise getting the $$$ one or the $ one? And then everyone will comment about which one they'd get.

And if someone comes in all "shame shame for infringing apparel" then let the commenters cause their own little drama.

But PLEASE STOP FRAMING THESE POSTS IN THIS WAY!

Change it up, yeah? It's not fun anymore.

Here is the StreetWalker Pledge, which I encourage you to consider:

I hereby vow that if Fashionista EVER approaches me to take a picture for StreetWalker, and I am not wear an ensemble that sings, then I'm going to demurr getting my picture taken.

I'm slummy so often that I cannot fault these girls for their not especailly exiciting outfits.

Next time, just. say. no.
