just a note: that purple script on grey background is incredibly hard to read.

would I? HELL YES. My dream is to someday have a ladytux made, as well as to rock a Jil Sander suit.

And I agree with most of the above commenters: it's only "tragic and ugly" if it doesn't fit, or is cheap fabric, which really goes for most clothing. Suits do not have to = corporate: just see The Sartorialist's shots for proof!

of course they didn't invent the term, but using the font + that word is a straight-up steal.

... or maybe, she woke up late and just put on a bunch of neutral basics. Really, "funereal"?

I can't believe that someone would STILL assume that my largely-black wardrobe is a "shield", or my way of projecting despair onto the world. I happen to look very good in black, and it's a lifesaver for getting out the door quickly when you don't need to worry about Pattern A clashing with Color B , which doesn't complement your Color C jacket. Sheesh.

please tell me that the above photo is an awkwardly-styled minidress, NOT a halter romper. Please?

due to the writer's strike, not cancellation. Thank god. I love the trash-tastic GG, although my love is limited to watching back episodes online at this point. sigh.

Ed Westwick = divine, and it's rather amusing how HARD Chace Crawford is trying to look "bad-boy" in this shot. Stubble = edgy?

no, G&tC, it's not due to cancellation- WRITER'S STRIKE. No more new episodes, because they could only film so many before the strike took hold.

5:23 guest- well, since the Nordstrom salesgirl TOLD YOU to try them out at home and take them back if they weren't perfect, I think you're well within your bounds to do so. Nordstrom is known for having an above & beyond customer service/ return policy across their company.

As far as "renting"- god, no, never. If I don't love it enough to buy it, I don't love it enough to wear it.

Though I'll definitely take inspiration from friends' outfits (and those friends I only know online- what are fashion blogs for if not for inspiration?), I'll always double-check before buying anything I think a close friend already owns. I've been the girl huddled in the corner of the store with my phone, describing the necklace I holding to a friend to determine if it's the same one she owns, and therefore off-limits. I've been known to make dressing-room calls to especially stylish friends to make sure that the dress I'm falling in love with isn't something that already exists in their closet- and if it does, can I borrow it?

The Lovely Teaspoon was a vendor for the Contemporary Arts Center's holiday bazaar this year, and her stuff was a total hit. Plus, she's sweet as pie!

I only go darker at home, after an ill-fated college bleaching in the dorm bathroom.

As for "brassy & brittle": not at all. Again, if you're not going lighter, it's very easy and forgiving, unless you're doing a drastic haircolor change.

I don't have an "icon" in the traditional sense: I have a handful of extremely stylish friends that I'll look to for inspiration if I'm at a loss. I'll stand in front of the closet and think "now, if X was getting dressed, she'd put on...." and work from there.

I'm annoyed at the S-M-L sizing for some of the dresses: the GO collections are notoriously juniors-sized, so figuring out whether that means I need a M or L in the striped dress is just a leap of faith. Anyone tried these on for a fit comparison?

The HH collection was on display (under a sign that said "Anya Hindmarch") and nearly sold out on the 26th at the Target by my parents' in Nebraska, but no Thakoon anywhere.

re: #17 and the "heels to class = slutty attention whores":
COME ON. Perhaps if you're 17 and a junior in high school (and even then, probably not), but I dare you to come to my MBA classes and tell me that my thrifted mary janes somehow make my sweater-skirt and cardigan "slutty" or inappropriate.

I assume the point of this post was to do more interesting things than sling "slut" around arbitrarily.

A simple dress WITH POCKETS* (pockets are my salvation) and either flats or easy-on-easy-off boots. Tights if necessary for weather. Trench coat that can be crumpled into a carryon if the destination or departure is colder than expected.

Lots and lots of chapstick.

*You may be mistaken for a flight attendant. I wore a navy wool shift dress to travel recently, and four separate people assumed I was a stewardess and came up to me to get flight info. It's like wearing a red polo and khakis into a Target, apparently.
