It is a very old-school Japanese line of thought. It goes against the American ideal of individuality. I think he's plain wrong, but you know what they say about opinions... ;)

I have to say I'm a fan of the flares. In the late nineties when I was in high school bell-bottoms made a brief comeback and I loved it.

Hear hear! I'm with you etoilee8 on how irritating "My life is JUST LIKE Sex and the City!" is. Because, for one thing, it's so NOT in the same way NO ONE's is, and for another thing, their lives are supposed to be kind of ridiculous, not something to aspire to. Right?

Regarding the gigantic floppy straw sun hat that she wears in the movie...where would one find a hat like that? (Basically the biggest sun hat you've ever seen.) Serious question.
