The perception, sadly, is that tan still equals money for many people. It started way back with Coco Chanel, who made it seem chic (perhaps by accident) and continues among celebrities who are perpetually fake-tanned/baked.
As a pale girl myself, I do think that pale is beautiful, but I'd be lying if I didn't say that I feel like I look better with a tan.
That said I haven't acted on it. Yet.

this is very sad news, if true...perhaps one of the biggie brands like Estee or L'Oreal will try and scoop them up?

ARLENIS SOSA! She's definitely the most buzz-worthy model of the moment.
Plus, she's landed Lancome, and other than Liya for Estee Lauder, not one of these faces has a big cosmetic contract in their midst...

An inspired choice, since Grace Jones sings in the H&M spring ads with Eva Herzigova and Vincent Gallo....
Jones was also a major muse on the spring '09 runways.

she's not the most obvious choice, but, damn, the girl looks hot, so it's fine by me. although I have to agree with guest #5 - please bring back the models!
And, I too love Elle - it's one of my favorite mags (and I read MANY), and I'm not ashamed to admit it. though mostly, I read Elle for its beauty and health coverage, which is by far some of the best in the realm of US magazines.

do teens actually read Teen Vogue? I don't know many teens (nor many adults, for that matter) who know what the word "obfuscate" means.
talk about being out of touch with your audience and "obfuscating" the issue...

I've got to hand it to Functionalab for its slick design aesthetic and cool branding, which is getting a ton of press. However, there has been no substantiated proof that nutraceuticals can turn back the clock on skin. But people will continue to believe in the quick-fix approach: just look at the biggest beauty myth of all – that drinking water can improve your skin.

darcyskins - no, zombie-dom isn't pretty, but if you're dehydrated, then yes, your skin won't look great. But most of us get adequate water from the foods we eat and there's no evidence to suggest that guzzling water will give you model-esque skin (although they all claim it as their beauty secret).

Entry: Are You A Product Snob?

Like Guest #5, I used to be a product snob and favor only cult brands (that tend to have a hefty pricetag attached). I've since realized, since working as a beauty editor, that many drugstore brands are on par with, and in some cases, better than their higher-priced counterparts.
That said, a new Dior mascara or the latest YSL makeup (which is often packaged like art pieces) can still set my heart aflutter.

wow, does someone have a chip on their shoulders?

I don't see the fashion world's love for Beth Ditto as any stranger than their love for Lady Gaga (although Gaga has more style, in my opinion). Both Ditto and Gaga, with their flamboyant personalities, could be characters in John Waters movies.

The love of Ditto isn't any kind of calculated statement on the fat/thin issue – the fashion world loves nothing more than eccentric personalities.

Another potential side effect of this drug is permanent eye-color change - so if you have blue eyes, for example, there's a slight chance they could turn brown, permanently.
If that's not scary enough, I don't know what is....
