I know I did. I've paid a lot of dues and my resume is fantastic, but it's like "oh she's already worked for free, let's keep milking that" it's ridiculous and unfair.

and #9

It's not just this internship I'm complaining about, it's all of the free slave labor things that have been going up all summer long every where asking for free labor in exchange for "experience" that no one finds valuable these days because they just want you for free in the end. It's a sad cycle.

Nope, no one wants to hire when they can just get someone else to do what I did for free. It's really complicated, frustrating, and silly. A lot of my friends are dealing with this fall out post graduation as well.

Slave labor might not apply to this one, but all of the internships have wanted 3+ days recently and it's just getting out of hand.

You don't have to be in school, but they will give you credit if you are.

....which means it's paid if you're a graduate? I'm not trying to start another debate, but let's be realistic, 3 days unpaid or while in school in Manhattan?

Karl looks amazing. but seriously I wish that the people that were photographer signed their own Polaroids, I think that would have been a lot cooler.

Needs more Kanye.

^Exactly my thoughts. I also heard horror stories from the halls [or closet, whatever you'd like to call it] at Interview.

Free child labor demands, strikes again!

No experience on earth can make this internship worth it.

NewBarhmin,

The issue is that you and a lot of other people accept that they should be. If people stopped accepting it and started realizing that these companies can afford to pay at least min. wage, then maybe it wouldn't be free child labor. Maybe it would be a cool job that allows you to make a tiny bit of money in an already incredibly expensive city, while being a student, and getting real world experience.

If InStyle can afford to pay min. wage, if Hearst can afford to pay students of "diversity" [I won't even get into that issue right now] and even Conde Nast has started paying 12 dollars a day [better than my previous zero], then other magazines big or small should be able to. Same goes for fashion houses and designers. B.S. that Hermes can't pay you to be an intern, etc etc.

And if they can't pay you, it shouldn't be more than 2 days at 5 hours a day. Even Parsons is going to start limiting internships hours, demands, and amount of days. Perhaps that will start some sort of change.

I already live in designer sneakers, but if designers would design better sneakers and make them more "couture" of course! But I think they should go the Sander route and sign up with a company like Puma or Adidas instead of trying to make ugly old lady sneakers on their own [I'm looking at you Chanel]

I've interned for Hearst and Fairchild and not once did I list what my family made or what I made in any paperwork that I filled out. I don't know anyone that ever has, my best friend interned at Conde Nast, never filled anything of that sort out either. I think this paid "system" is a luck of the draw program.

Nice image grab from jezebel. I realllllly hate her unintelligent views and how she won't listen to the other side no matter what. Then she'll bring up how she agreed that Barack was good once like a year ago...ugh, someone fire her already.

Also commenter number 1...the word is A LOT. 2 words. In the last 2 days I've seen an unbelievable amount of people misspell A LOT. WHATS GOING ON IN THE WORLD?!
