Reasons why
we want at least twenty of these:
1. Because we're becoming obsessed with flowers
2. Because these might actually make a decent gift for Mother's Day
3. Because whenever we get a cute bobby pin, we lose it immediately
4. Because the red will really suit our hair color (or anyone's)
5. Because we're getting into muggy heat territory, and these are better than just plain black ones to hold up braids
6. Because sometimes, it's the littlest details that really make a look

Someone recently asked us why we don't discuss Topshop's copyright infringements and leave Forever 21 alone.
But Forever 21 doesn't just interpret a designer's idea or trend - they rip off the entire design within a single piece, whereas Topshop's obviously inspired by the runways, but manages to stop short of directly copying. (Obviously there are exceptions to this but we've found it to hold true the majority of the time).
For example, when we saw this adorable jacket we thought:
- The asymmetrical cut, the collar, the poufy short sleeves - it's so Vivienne Westwood!
- The faded stripes are semi-nautical and semi-Chanel but refrain from screaming SS08.
- We love that it's called "The Bandstand Jacket" - irrelevant, we know, but too good to ignore.
Ok. And hopefully this is the last time we have to explain the difference.

It's been a while since the last time we came across
a spoof of the Anya Hindmarch "I'm Not a Plastic Bag" tote, but we think this one really beats them all.
Despite the bag's popularity, and the good things we know came from it, we couldn't help but burst out into laughter when we came across Fashion Indie's "I'm Not a Douche Bag" tote on Cafe Press.
So seventh grade, and yet, so on point - we'd love to swing this around the Whole Foods salad aisle while enunciating our plans to offset the bag's carbon footprint using only macrobiotic beets.

A good friend of ours, like any good PR girl who knows about our
teensy tiny Gossip Girl fixation, sent us some info on
Kimberly Baker.
Maybe you've never heard that name before, but you will soon - her jewelry's been all over your TV sets, subliminally seeping onto wish lists everywhere courtesy of Serena, Blair, Jenny, and even Vanessa - you can also see Mary-Kate sporting her Wolfette ring on her January NYLON cover.
Considering at least one Kimberly Baker piece has been spotted on literally every female GG character, we're just waiting to see a throw-down between Georgina and, well, anybody, involving Kim's Bianca Ring, at left (our favorite).
Ok - I will now return to moderating the ongoing battle for official "Chuck's Girlfriend" title here in the office.

We've been avoiding the MOMA store on Spring St. because we can't go in and out without buying a piece of really amazing jewelry.
But we have little self control when it comes to shopping so we'll be heading there after work for this Murano glass bubble necklace by Marina and Susanna Sent.
The artists, who grew up in a family of Venetian glass blowers, strung the lightweight glass balls on a thick white rope to create one of the most perfect summer necklaces we've ever seen.
Will pair with a strapless dress, layer with lapis beads over a white t-shirt a la Dries, and wear it pretty much every day for the next three months.
We might even blow some pink Bubble Yum for extra effect.

At the blog mode panel at the Met two weeks ago, Harold Koda said Simon Costin's Victorian looking necklaces were two of the most discussed pieces of the exhibit.
Most people who took the time to post comments were disturbed by the sperm filled vials and dried bird claws, but a few found them really beautiful - and so did we. The gothic-themed jewelry included intricate wire work, polished stones and engraved pendants, a perfect accompaniment to our white t-shirt dominated wardrobe.
Unfortunately, no mere mortal, (except maybe Daphne Guinness?), could get her little hands on the pieces so we might layer a couple of these from Etsy seller Aminyitray instead.
We love the seahorse to the left. There's also a microscope slide, specimen jars, and even a bobcat tooth necklace.
Sorry, we couldn't find any with sperm - but we're pretty sure you'll be ok with that.

We just stumbled upon the best vendor
ever on Etsy.
The Lovely Teaspoon makes the kind of random, creative little plastic baubles you find in trinket stores in mini towns on the way to somewhere isolated.
There are G.I. Joe earrings, Barbie shoes strung on necklaces, dinosaur rings, a Bambi pin, Lego pieces in the vein of Marc by Marc and our favorite, the plastic baby bobby pins to the left.
It's the kind of playful jewelry that's perfect for summer when you're hot and sweaty and running from the pool to free concerts and don't want to worry about anything you're wearing. And there are a few pieces that wouldn't look out of place on Jeremy Scott's runway.
We wish we'd thought to do such creative things with our leftover childhood doodads.

If you're suffering from Pop Shop nostalgia, pay attention:
Keith Haring's crazy store on Lafayette may be gone, but his t-shirts just hit UNIQLO.
We saw them getting rolled onto the store floor last night.
The shirts sell for under $20, and feature classic prints from the New York graffiti artist, including his electric hearts and flying babies.
Funnily enough, they're being sold in Soho, which used to be where Haring and his other gritty art friends lived, but has now turned into something of a theme park.
Wonder what he'd think of that...

Our favorite news from last night's dinner party:
Genevieve Jones is teaming up with artist and t-shirt maven Dana Veraldi (whom you probably remember from the Agyness Deyn tees of last season) on a new project that's TBA (but we bet it's connected to Genevieve's hyper-cute jewelry line).
To celebrate, Ms. Dana created the Genevieve Jones t-shirt.
Much like the actual Genevieve, it is cut petite, and very stylish -
But with a good, sharp sense of humor.

The Hayden-Harnett store is comfortably situated between my apartment and my favorite breakfast place ever, so I'm there at least once a week.
I've been obsessing over this vintage ring at the counter. The black metal would take up a good third of my finger and it's punctuated by pin-head size pieces of glass. It was gone by the time I went back for it and I'm obviously still not over it.
But then I saw this one by VintageFilligree, and it'll do just fine.
It looks Victorian but it's size is modern. I love a big ring that's still feminine and it's hard to find something funky that stops just short of making me look like I'm gearing up for a fight.
Then again, if I do get in a fight, it can't hurt.

Attention makeup collectors and unabashed logo whores:
Neiman Marcus still has a stash of the YSL lip gloss charms in stock, and you can buy them online.
The charms come filled with YSL Beaute color, but that's obviously not the point -
The real deal is they're attached to a chain-link bracelet, and stamped with the huge and coveted YSL logo.
The last time these charms debuted, at Saks, we saw them fly off the shelves faster than hot chocolate chip cookies, so forgive our astonishment, but here you go.
$56, plus shipping, if you order them online.

The Miu Miu Harlequin girl is haunting us.
Seriously.
We see her face on Kirsten when we flip through Vogue. She stares up at us from the "dress" on Byrdie Bell. She even shows up when we scroll through Net-a-Porter. But the odd thing is, we never see faces on girls in real life.
Whether it's the futuristic Lanvin dresses from Spring 07 or the Dorothy dress from Heatherette Fall 07, wearing someone else's face on a dress just seems innapropriate.
Okay, certainly if you're Paris Hilton, wearing your face on your chest is as natural as wearing one of the Kitson-induced "Team..." tees of years gone by. And I'll admit, I actually fell in love with Naomi Campbell all over again when she wore the "Naomi hit me, and I liked it" tee shirt to poke fun at her own violent habits.
But honestly, could someone without an ego the size of Alburquerque pull off an outfit dominated by someone else's beautiful face? Are most women really that secure?

Spring is finally here!
Well, at least according to the calendar if not the thermometer. Of course we're one step ahead - already stocked up on sandals, a spring jacket and florals that we can't wait to wear. But we've stopped short of shorts.
First of all, we're still ghastly white. Secondly, shorts are hard to wear. They have to fit perfectly - long enough to be comfortable but short enough to be flattering. They need, for our purposes, to be at least semi-chic and fashionable but still doable on a daily basis.
So it's a good thing we just came across the Taxi Short by Ditto.
They're the perfect blue. They're high waisted enough for tucking in shirts without looking costume-y. The inseam appears to be the perfect length and the belt loops look just big enough for our favorite woven brown belt.
So now that we have the clothes, we could really use some sunshine.
Mar 18, 2008 @ 1:37pm

We've always associated wingtips, oxfords, spectators, and loafers, with men, and maybe poodle skirts.
Until recently, that is. Not long ago, we started seeing "inspired by men's shoes" all over the place, mostly in the form of a lace-up oxford, and always with a heel.
Now, both on the runway and on the street, we're seeing girls in actual men's shoes paired with feminine dresses.
They're a kind of sleek and sophisticated look without being too rough or too hard to pull off, and make us want to use words like "dapper," "dandy" and "the bees knees".
But since we've only found a few that are made in women's sizes, we may have to take to the Boy's shoe department to get exactly what we're after...

We're not usually so into paying $50 for a scarf.
But if it's super cute, and 100% of net proceeds go to charity, we can make an exception.
Secrets of Charm, whose girly, whimsical clothes is a big hit with, well, girls, has partnered with Hope Shining, a foundation that helps children impacted by violence and abuse. They've designed four scarves, two cotton and two silk, that we think will look perfect tied up in messy hair with a white tee and tall sandals in a couple months.
The scarves are available only on Ravinstyle - and the cotton version is only $18 instead of the pricier silk version.
Now if the net proceeds of Balenciaga's tallest sandals ever went to charity, we might have a really good reason to go to 22nd and 10th...

Here's some good news; spring is almost here.
And what's our favorite part of spring? The clothes, of course.
We've been working out different imaginary outfits for the past couple months, but we know that when it finally does get to be 85 degrees outside, the only thing we'll want to wear is the thinnest, most uncomplicated dress possible, which usually calls for an interesting print.
So we recently fell hard for the Hendrix Dress handmade by designer Sarah Johnson.
We're already picturing it with bright, flat sandals, a little pouch purse and a messy bun combo.
But one word of caution: the dress is one-size-fits-all, which usually means that girls on either far side of the size spectrum are left out.

Our most fashionable heels don't hold up so well on the streets of New York, and often times, we don't want to put them at risk while we dance away to The Kills.
So lately, even at work, we've been pairing ensembles with some pretty kick-ass, take no prisoners, rough and tumble boots.
But since we don't want to come off like a 2008 Courtney Love, we've been looking for ways to soften the edge on our favorite utility-wear.
Naturally, we remembered the lacy ankle socks that our mom's dressed us in. These from Sock Dreams are playful enough to add a bit of Lolita to an otherwise biker-esque outfit.
We can't wait to scuff up our new Docs while we reminisce about hopscotch on the playground.

When I first moved to New York, I was eagerly awaiting my first non-Floridian winter in a long time. I bought my J.Crew Pea Coat on the first day the temperature dropped below 70, I squealed with delight when I woke up and it was snowing, and I rode the Carousel in Central Park in 30 degree weather.
Seriously, I was pumped.
But as the season trudged on, I started to reminisce about winters spent in t-shirts and shorts. So as we do in CenFlo, I've already started shopping for board shorts, picking out new Top-Siders, and searching for the perfect tote for summer.
I wanted a manbag that isn't creepy or girly, and not as prosaic as the messenger I use everyday. This Sea Bag is made from an actual recycled sail, which totally fits in with my nautical-inflected closet - and as Natalie pointed out, a canvas bag is the perfect thing in which to carry your laptop.
Now if only the term "manbag" would go the way of "metrosexual," I'd be all set.

Have you ever seen a more perfect trench coat? We've been obsessing over Gryphon's Petti-Coat all week and crying over its $1,000 price tag.
But we found this one from Topshop that's almost as cute, probably more wearable and definitely more affordable.
The jacket's made for that awkward, in between seasons time, when it's not too cold but still not warm enough to leave your apartment with just a cardigan; it's flouncy skirt will complement the Philip Lim skirts we're craving for spring; and, navy blue looks so much more chic than black once the sun actually feels warm.
Now if Topshop would finally open their phantom New York store, we could finally stop paying the annoying shipping charges.

One of our faithful readers alerted us to one of the funniest clothing labels we've heard of in a while - LowTee.
Designed by Philip Heckman, LowTee is a line of men's bathing suits handmade from vintage t-shirts ranging from "DARE to Resist Drugs and Violence" to "B-52's."
Each pair is unique, so no worries over someone sporting the same "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" bottoms as you.
As for us, we're planning on hanging out around the house in these along with our boyfriend's sweaters.
Or maybe twisting one up as a turban?
Pin-Up
I think it's funny that the seller named her store after A Fine Frenzy because she's been so "inpire...
