Banana Republic + New Museum = Art Basel Miami + Totes
Nov 18, 2008 @ 9:28am
Banana Republic's sponsoring NADA's (NADA is the New Art Dealers Alliance) Art Fair 2008 Preview Benefit for the New Museum this year at Art Basel Miami. So, Banana Republic's contribution (other than funding the whole thing)? Totes, of course!
BR and the New Museum chose six artists out of eighty-five to have their work splashed on the front of cotton totes to be sold at Art Basel Miami and at the New Museum store (though only three will make it to the New Museum gift shop), with 100% of the proceeds benefiting NADA and the New Museum.
The six artists whose work and signatures will be featured on the future grocery bags are Chris Caccamise from Eleven Rivington in New York, Kon Trubkovich from Museum 52 in London/New York, Slawek Pawszak from Czarna Gallery in Poland, Olivier Babin from Frank Elbaz Gallery in Paris, Shinro Ohtake from Take Ninagawa in Tokyo and William O'Brien from Shane Campbell Gallery in Chicago.
But the best part? They've made a special tote produced with the "Hell Yes!" catchphrase on the front of the New Museum, by artist Ugo Rondinone. We're sure that one will have a special place in the heart of anyone who's ever looked down to Bowery from the west, and giggled.
(Check out Caccamise's and Babin's tote designs, after the jump!)
Jeremy Scott for Ksubi. Take 5.
Nov 17, 2008 @ 3:19pm
Think pink and hearts. Now picture Ksubi jeans with a Jeremy Scott twist.
Whoa, right?
It's Scott's fifth collaboration for the Olsen-beloved Australian label, and there are enough skinny jeans and bustiers to dress the length of Bedford Avenue.
In fact, it looks suspiciously like Chloe Sevigny's first Opening Ceremony collection but Scott has sunglasses, sunglasses we really want - especially the baby pink ones with tiny black hearts peppered across the frames.
The collection debuted with his runway show in September, but we're sure you want close-ups. Scott clarifies, "The collection is inspired by the French Revolution and is parallel to today's social, economic and political climate, hence I titled the show 'Let Them Eat Gas!'"
Um, ok, sure. That's totally the vibe we got, too.
Spring's Sprung at Hayden-Harnett
Nov 13, 2008 @ 3:19pm
We made a pit-stop at Hayden Harnett's garment district showroom last night.
Among the brownies and cocktails we found cute swimsuits and covetable bags.
Toni Hacker showed her signature HH shapes - the tripled coin purse, studded leather bracelets and flowy wrap dresses. We also got to see, and touch, some amazing leather jackets and vests as well as the new shoe collection. The next time we can justify buying a pair of boots, we'll go for the banded grey ones.
But it was really the ruffled and sometimes printed swimwear we wanted to walk away with. The cuts were flattering and the colors were easy to wear without being too girly.
A hit, as usual.
Would You Like a Ham with that Dior?
Nov 11, 2008 @ 3:31pm
So we were flipping through the Saks Holiday Gift catalog this morning, when we came to page 168. Not too far away from the Oscar de la Renta robes and Diptyque soaps was a rack of lamb for $150. Next to that, mesquite smoked peppered beef tenderloin, for $130.
Now, we get the whole Target-inspired one stop shopping thing, but meat? From Saks?
Guess we missed them moving into the gourmet market.
But it's comforting to know that, if pressed, we could get our Thanksgiving turkey for less than one of their candles.
Is the New: Marion Cotillard and Lisa Fonssagrives?
Nov 07, 2008 @ 4:14pm
Ok, clearly we don't actually think that. Anyway...
One for all you photo freaks out there:
Does the shot of Marion Cotillard on the Eiffel Tower shot by Peter Lindbergh (thanks, WWD) remind anyone else of the divine Lisa Fonssagrives-Penn on the Eiffel Tower shot by Erwin Blumenfeld in 1939?
Even though Lisa makes it look like a ferris wheel and Marion like a death trap, we think so.
Class discussion, please.
PS Just for fun, I've added two photos of another model standing precariously on another building that one of my old professors just passed along to me. Bonus points if you can name both the model and photographer.
Meet Eryn Brinie
Nov 07, 2008 @ 2:12pm
We swung by the new Eryn Brinie store this morning.
The Korean label opened their first American outpost in Soho in September. Nothing - not coats, bags or boots - costs more than $250; nothing, as far as we can see, is a rip-off of a runway design, and we want all of it (in fact it's probably the first time we've ever shopped before 10am).
Neutral tones dominate the laid back, semi-slinky line. The spring collection includes lightweight knit sweaters over ruffled slips, high-waisted skinny pants with structured tuxedo jackets, loads of mini-skirts and super soft tees in that perfect shade of grey.
Patent leather bags and flats come studded or rhinestoned, scarves are all shapes and sizes, and there's a small selection of costume jewelry.
Basically, Rachel Zoe called in one of everything - and she won't give it back.
Rogan Making Own Jewelry for Spring; Lady Grey for Holiday
Nov 05, 2008 @ 7:01pm
We just got back from the Rogan Spring 09 press preview on Franklin, and we have some news:
Not only is Lady Grey designing a collection for the King of Denim, but he's already designed a jewelry collection of his own, launching this Spring.
The pieces are mostly wood with some metal accents, some of which look like some kind of tangram game for the neck, but we're into it.
And as for Lady Grey, their designs are still in the works, though the collaboration is definitely on. We were told straight from Rogan's press girls that the Lady Grey designs will be in stores, exclusively at Rogan, for this holiday season. We think it's a little funny to debut a designer collaboration for an accessory you haven't done for your brand yet before you debut your own, which is already designed and made anyway, but it really just makes this more interesting anyway. But what's most interesting, is how the Lady Grey girls' aesthetic meshes with Rogan's decidedly woodsy take on jewelry.
Enjoy some choice looks from Rogan's Spring 09, after the jump.
Monday Night Hairball
Nov 04, 2008 @ 9:46am
Maybe it's because I've just returned from a long weekend in the country, or maybe it's because I'm particularly eagle-eyed when it comes to hair, but did anyone else notice last night's prime time hair switch?
First, I watched Blair Waldorf help save a young girl from 1 Oak sporting a side braid more reminiscent of Lauren Conrad's cool-California girl style than her usual UES stiff. And that was funny and fine.
But then I noticed Lauren Conrad sporting a black headband (and was that a bow on it? Tilted to the side?) more reminiscent of Blair Waldorf's uppity signature look, which always makes me think of Shannon Doherty in Heathers.
An intentional Monday night hair swap? Or an East Coast / West Coast hip-hair rivalry?
You know we doubt it's either, but it's just so fun to say shit like that.
Meet Joey
Oct 31, 2008 @ 9:39am
Jeremy met a boy.
His name is Joey Kirchner.
He shot him for Nuke Magazine.
Here's a sneak peek.
Joey's signed to Major Model Management and Jeremy thinks he'll be pretty major, no pun intended.
He has hockey sticks and his number tatooed on his right arm.
If this is outside the box, remember, it's Friday and we'll use any excuse to post a cute boy playing with pool toys.

Ralph Lauren Does Tom's for Spring
Oct 22, 2008 @ 1:47pm
Blake Mycoskie, the beautiful brains behind Tom's, is showing his Spring collection right now.
But they're just Tom's, you're probably saying. Do they ever actually change?
Yes, they do.
For Spring, the sole has been re-built out of rope and rubber so that they last longer than a month on actual city streets. This time around, there's also a vegan range, which looks the same but lacks the leather insoles and details. The collection rounds out with a handful of wrap-around knee-high boots that we don't think are very cute, but you might.
And, for those of the preppy persuasion, Ralph Lauren's collaborated with Blake to create a handful of Rugby designs including a black pair with embroidered skulls and colorful striped versions with rugby numbers. It's the first time Ralph's done a design collaboration outside his own empire so it's, as Blake says, "kind of a big deal."
Now if only Blake could teach Ralph a little something, we might see a donation of five cable knit sweaters for every one bought at Rugby to children in need.
Made In Heaven, or London At Least
Oct 21, 2008 @ 1:29pm
We just swung by the new MiH showroom, and we think we just found our new favorite jeans.
Chloe Lonsdale's in town to show off her the Spring 09 collection and we had to sit on our hands to stop from grabbing each pair and bolting.
She's been selling in America for a little over a year - think Intermix, Barneys, Ron Herman - but she's ready to take the brand's presence to the next level, hence the two-week old New York showroom and new cuts alongside the brand's classics.
And so, our favorite? The Lisbon jean. It hits at mid-waist, has teeny-tiny pleats, cuffs at the ankle and doesn't require a super skinny body. There's even a denim skirt we'd wear - and we have personal issues with jean skirts.
Flip through for the lookbook. We decided it's prettier than our digital showroom shots.

Thank you so much! You ladies rock my socks....
