We realized when looking through our newest issue of Russh that in all the talk over these many months about the widespread trend of pantslessness, and even the emerging “jock” fashions of S/S10, that one inspiration had been overlooked. Until now. Thank you Russh editors for remembering.
And who might this trendsetter be? Jamie Lee Curtis in the awesome 1985 “drama”, Perfect. The film is a hip-thrusting romp following the relationship of aerobics instructor Jessie and John Travolta’s reporter Adam. If you haven’t had the pleasure, we highly recommend it for its ridiculous workout scenes and brilliant use of leotards and headbands. (Be forewarned that Travolta wears loose-fitting short shorts that are more revealing than one might like.)
We feel terrible for overlooking Jamie Lee when watching collections like Charlotte Ronson’s come down the runway. We were consumed by visions of Olivia Newton-John and “Let’s Get Physical”, but we’re trying to make amends by giving props now. Because really, no one’s ever looked hotter sans pants.
Please forgive us, Mrs. Christopher Guest. We won’t forget you again.

There’s already so much buzz surrounding the Victoria’s Secret fashion show’s return to New York that we kind of feel like we’re prepping for an entire fashion week.
This morning, the press trekked downtown to District (that building Amy Sacco’s done something with) to meet the ten finalists in the Angel competition. After three weeks of Victoria’s Secret boot camp, one will win a spot on the Armory’s runway come November 19th.
America picks the winner; there are, of course, cameras following the wannabe Angels everywhere and their boot camp webisodes will air on both CBS.com and VSAllAccess.com. Voting opens to the public on November 9th.
Now to the important part - the girls. They range in age from 18-year-old Katelyn from Boston who’s never modeled a day in her life and happily confesses to stuffing her bra to 25-year-old Tika from Albania via Detroit who’s been happily married for seven years.

It’s the week of the boot here at Fashionista. So while we’re on the topic…
Of all the super chunky, kind-of-ugly boots that have been conceived over the years, Uggs seem to be the lone survivor. They’ve been around forever and, much to the chagrin of many, are still in fairly high demand.
Another super chunky, kind-of-ugly boot that once had a moment is the Moon Boot. I totally forgot about them until I saw this.
And then I had a laugh remembering how silly my friends looked as they tried to stomp around in them. Once I stopped the giggling I thought, “Are Moon Boots making a comeback?” To which I briskly answered myself, “No, of course not.”

Rachel Bilson’s in the new Flaunt (which is amazing by the way, more to come) looking pretty damn fashion-y.
Bilson might be one the of the few starlets we’d rather just abandon Hollywood and movie-making altogether, admit her love for fashion overpowers any other interest and take those leather Phillip Lim gloves from editorial to real life.
She says:
“New York is more inspiring, I think, than L.A. And you’re definitely closer to the fashion pulse. You see girls walking down the street, and they look amazing. They’re not afraid. No one gives a fuck.”
“Like, I love trees. I notice trees. It’s a weird thing for me because L.A.’s my home, but now I represent something very different, so it’s bizarre.”
“She [Diana Vreeland] was so cool and innovative, and at her time, what she did with Harper’s and what she wore, her columns and everything were so unique.”

To say I’m fairly obsessed with Grey Gardens is an understatement, and not at all uncommon in the fashion industry. I’m a fan of the entire body of work of filmmaker Albert Maysles. Really it’s all just genius.
However, until now I’d never thought much about his eyewear. The people over at Barneys, however, have been thinking about it a lot. In keeping with the retro glasses trend, they partnered with LA-based Barton Perreira to recreate Maysles’ classic look.
Barneys’ EVP of Women’s Merchandising Judy Collinson says, “We saw everyone wearing glasses that looked like Albert Maysles glasses. Instead of looking for the best glasses inspired by him, we thought why no have the real authentic Albert Maysles glasses. He is such an iconic, respected and beloved figure. (Plus he looks amazing in the glasses.)”

Happy early birthday to me is what I thought when I opened up this email with V’s latest beauty extravaganza.
My former beauty editor heart definitely starts beating a little faster when a single story contains work by so many of my most favorite hairstylists, makeup artists, and photographers. And the models aren’t too shabby either!
Seriously check out just some of the people who gave their interpretations of what the definition of beauty will be in the next decade: Gucci Westman, Aaron de Mey, Didier Malige, James Kaliardos, Val Garland, Richard Burbridge, Miles Aldridge, Jimmy Paul, Julien d’Ys, Mario Sorrenti. The list goes on and on and their work is completely outstanding.

We all know Ali Hewson and that guy, Bono, she’s married to are kind of saving the world—one microdebt and cause at a time. But seriously, they do really good work that makes me feel like a total loser for not doing enough.
But I’ve got a little something we can do. Starting today exclusively at SaksFifthAvenue.com and edunonline.com, a special series of Edun tees that Ali designed in collaboration with artist Jo Ratcliffe will go on sale to benefit the War Child projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
War Child’s mission is to protect children in dangerous war zones around the world. I mean, if you’ve got a problem with that cause, you may just be dead inside.
So, no buying a really fun zebra t-shirt does not even close fulfill my requirements for being a better person. But hey, it’s a start.

We’re kind of obsessing over these shots of Natalia from the upcoming issue of V, shot by Hedi Slimane and styled by Nicola Formichetti (who also did that awesome Gaga video we put up the other day.)
One, because we never tire of Ms.Vodianova. Two, because we love pretty much everything that Hedi shoots. Three, the gold eye makeup. And four, we’re suckers for music references mixed with couture.
Here’s what we’ve come up with so far: the last shot is oh-so very Madonna “Like A Virgin” both the video and the classic VMA performance. In the middle spread, we’re feeling a little Brit Brit nude bodysuit circa that rockin’ “Oops I Did It Again” at the 2000 VMAs while we’re getting Grace Jones vibes from the one on the right.
But we’re a bit stymied as to the opening spread shot. What do you think??? (Oh and be warned there’s a little bit of nipple action.)

When Devi Kroell decided to open her New York flagship, there was one thing she knew, “I didn’t want it to look like anything else on Madison Avenue.” Almost two years later, mission is definitely accomplished.
To create her vision Devi enlisted Space 4 Architecture and they worked closely together. Architect Ulderico Micara told us, “Because of what Devi does she has such a fantastic knowledge of details and materials. And the materials needed to be in tune with her designs. She was so right on the money.”
My favorite part of the design was the amazing patterned Siberian oak floor. But the polished brass and cathedral ceilings are quite cool too, especially when looking down through the glass on the second floor. The feel is definitely very serene which Devi said was one of her goals. And while it’s modern and minimalist, it’s not in the least bit cold. “The combination of the modern lines with the warmer materials creates a certain coziness,” says Ulderico. Indeed.
