Dec 09, 2008 @ 3:35pm
Cassandra, Menswear Designer
Got Her: At Mott and Prince
Stalked Her: Because it’s winter and it took all our self-will not to roll out of bed wearing sweatpants and a sleeping bag. This chick proves that you can stay cozy while staying cute.
Shot Her: Because her baggy sweater with furry collar is just the sort of piece you can wear everywhere this season, and yet it still manages to have an eclectic, “oh I got this while on one of my word travels” feel. (Not to mention, her neck is probably really warm.) Plus, we love the graphic touches, like the pattern of her dress and the graffiti Marc Jacobs bag.
She Says: eBay, eBay, Japan (as she points to each piece)
We Say: Eclectic finds = eclectic look.

Olya, Mom & Art Publisher
Got Her: At the Guggenheim’s Hugo Boss Prize 2008 party.
Stalked Her: Actually it was more like shimmied up beside her while dancing.
Shot Her: Because she was rocking out in a Giambittista Valli dress, fishnets, and perfect patent pumps with a drink in hand on the sloping Guggenheim floors as if it were the easiest thing in the world
She Says: “I’m here for the art! I wore the Valli because it’s very structural and that seemed appropriate for a party in these walls.”
We Say: You should wear that dress everywhere, Guggenheim or not.

Megan, 21, Student
Got Her: On 13th and University
Stalked Her: Because we totally thought her pashmina was a jacket because of the way she had it tucked and pulled. Once she walked by, we had to know more.
Shot Her: Because her cuffed jeans and the scarf wrapped around her said it all - this girl was dressing for comfort, yet, looked adorable.
She Says: “I got the scarf off the street and I stole these jeans from my roommate, a boy.”
We Say: We’ve always wished we could wear actual boys jeans as our own. Well done!

Lola, 22, Deitch Gallery Intern
Got Her: On Ave B, as on her way to the Beck / MGMT concert
Stalked Her: Actually, didn’t have to - a friend introduced us.
Shot Her: Her shoes, the cozy layering - but most of all, the fact that she’s wearing a jean jacket and we didn’t want to make fun of her. Bonus points for the adorable London accent, too.
She Says: “Hummm.. I love Mary-Kate, I love Burberry and Alexander Wang. I love the Sartorialist!”
We say: We would also just like to point out the watch - kind of fits the ‘97 vibe she has going - perfect!

Melissa 26, Graphic Desginer
Got Her: 9th St between Ave A and B
Stalked Her: Because we usually hate leopard print anything, but this bag looked cute.
Shot Her: Because we wanted to get a closer look at her bag!
Plus, we needed to give praise to her for actually pairing it with a red, lumberjack jacket, shiny leggings and lace-up boots. Not too many people could make this look so cohesive.
She Says: “The bag is actually inside out!”
We Say: This almost makes us wish it was full-out winter already.

Alicia 26, Designer
Got Her: Ave C and 2nd St
Stalked Her: Actually, we jumped off our bike to catch her. Her hat piece was so beautiful!
Shot Her: Because she said she was the designer of the piece!
She Says: “These hats are one-of-a-kind. I hand make every one. They are sewn out of things like felt, silk, and banana fibers.”
We Say: We wish we had a response like that for our clothes..

Eleanor, 24, fashion person
Got Her: At the Louvre, in between shows.
Stalked Her: Because we love her jacket. Anyone who can make nautical work for Fall rocks our world.
Shot Her: Because she looks comfortably chic, balancing her fancy but logo-free bag with an easy going dress and cozy coat.
She Says: “I run an on-line fashion community in Sweden - but Paris Fashion Week is the absolute best!”
We Say: If we join your fashion community, can we borrow your coat?

Pia, fashion student, designer
Got Her: In front of the Parsons building on 5th Ave
Stalked Her: Because we couldn’t believe we saw a leather fringe jacket on a girl instead of a cowboy. To be honest, we stopped her because we were confused.
Shot Her: Because upon closer inspection, her sunglasses were great, the shoes were cool, and we had to reach out our hands to touch her shirt.
She Says: “When I like something I wear it everyday. I pick key pieces for each season and I get obsessed with them and only wear that. I fell in love with this shirt because the fabric was so soft. When I asked the designer how she did it, she said it was because she got the materials from a prison!”
We Say: Um, ok (But yes, the shirt did in fact feel incredible.)

Emilie, Intern
Got Her: Backstage at Vivienne Westwood.
Stalked Her: Because she looked nice and Vivienne looked too busy.
Shot Her: Because she has a lot of clothing on her little frame, but doesn’t look frumpy. We’ve been trying to experiment with different pant volumes, too. But we always end up looking more clown than chic.
She Says: “I’m a pattern cutting intern for Vivienne. I love working for her - it’s amazing. My favorite part of this collection? The roughed up, aged white denim shoes.”
We Say: Can you cut us a Vivienne one-off?

Ema, Doctor
Got Her: On 15th Street and 5th Ave
Stalked Her: Because a colorful scarf with a complementary smiling face really makes our heads turn.
Shot Her: Because when we stopped her, we noticed her shoes and her purse were really great focal points, too.
She Says: “I really mostly dress for comfort.”
We Say: A perfect example that dressing for comfort doesn’t have to be frumpy. Plus, it’s totally true what our moms always said: a smile really does go with everything.

Lucy, Student and Vogue Intern
Got Her: In front of Eugene Lang
Stalked Her: Because her dark lip color stopped us in our tracks. Also, did I spot a Prada tote?
Shot her: Because she was wearing this adorable, floral dress that makes us wish MTV would air My So Called Life reruns instead of anything involving a Kardashian.
She says: “I’m a child of the 90’s.”
We Say: It’s all in her attention to detail: Notice her boots balancing out her flimsy dress, and picking up on her lip color - she even painted her nails taxi cab yellow.

Jules, 23, Artist
Got Her: At Versailles, in front of the Koons.
Stalked Her: Let’s just say that when you plop a girl like this in the middle of squealing tourists wearing sweatshirts and fanny packs, she kind of stands out.
Shot Her: Because we’ve been obsessing over the D&G tartan for fall, and while her outfit might not be off the runway, she makes the look everyday appropriate. And, that skirt length is almost impossible to pull off. Also, did you notice the equestrian lining of her coat?
She Says: “I’ve had this skirt forever. Is plaid trendy again?”
We Say: Ah, so above it all.

Louise, 22, Student
Got Her: At Versailles
Stalked Her: Because she looked very studious taking notes in the courtyard and very Fall.
Shot Her: Because the proportion of her jacket to her skirt worked, surprisingly. We love her glasses and that the only pop of color comes from her hair.
She Says: “I’m an art student. I study in Paris and we’re here to see the Jeff Koons exhibit for school. And who doesn’t love Versailles?”
We Say:You study Koons, we’ll study you.
*ed note. If you happen to be in Paris right now, there’s a Jeff Koons exhibit throughout Versailles until December. It’s only the second time the French government has allowed a contemporary artist to show in the palace and though semi-irreverent, (we heard lots of visitors complaining), it brings an entirely new dimension to the experience and we’d highly recommend catching it while you can.

Kate, Style Director of ELLE
Got Her: At the Topshop venue!
Stalked Her: Because we’ve spent the past two weeks wondering how in the world she can make pants and a t-shirt look so chic.
Shot Her: Because we’re starting to miss New York and it’s nice to talk to a familiar face. Plus, we knew you’d want to see her.
She Says: “Can you believe I packed like fifty-two pairs of socks and three pairs of knickers? What was I thinking?!”
We Say: At least you remembered that clutch.

Pinky, 21, artist
Got Her: At Henry Holland’s after party in Bloomsbury Square
Stalked Her: Because she had some serious dance moves.
Shot Her: Because we couldn’t stop staring at her amazing hair. And her outfit’s not too shabby either.
She Says: “This is my favorite jacket. I wear it every chance I get. There’s not much that beats a well-fitting blazer.”
We Say: There’s not much that beats rocking a leotard as an outfit.

Jessica, 24, fashion journalist
Got Her: Outside the Natural History Museum in South Kensington.
Stalked Her: Because we were walking behind her and noticed multiple heads turning - we had to see what they were looking at.
Shot Her: Because her outfit was indeed worthy of a head turn.
She Says: “My skirt’s practically vintage H&M. The t-shirt’s Marc Jacobs, from New York, and I love this cardigan - it’s vintage.”
We Say: Sometimes, it’s just nice to see an easily chic girl amongst the trying-too-hard fashion folk.

Namalee, 26, creative director of SuperSuper magazine.
Got Her: At the Basso & Brooke show at the Science Museum.
Stalked Her: Actually, she was sitting right across from us, so stalking wasn’t necessary this time, but we totally would’ve if we had to.
Shot Her: Because she was wearing neon blue tights with printed shoes and a differently printed skirt, topped with loads of jewelry and carrying a bag like we’ve never seen before. Also, her lipstick.
She Says: “It’s all Basso & Brooke. I mean, I styled the show for them so it’s only right that way.”
We Say: Right, Lite Bright, whatever, we love it.

Madeline, Trend Forecaster, friend of headband maker.
Got Her: In Picadilly Circus.
Stalked Her: Well, she was going to London Fashion Week’s On/Off party and we were going to Temperley’s Bungalow 8 bash, so we had to meet her now.
Shot Her: Because we loved her headband. And her skirt. And her lipstick. And her socks. And her necklace.
She Says: “Isn’t the headband great? My friend made it, she’s just about to launch a line. I’m a trend forecaster, so I just sort of keep my eyes open at all times.”
We Say: Just don’t get forecaster hair…

Chris, 22, Central St. Martin’s student, boy fashionista
Got Him: At the Topshop show.
Stalked Him: Can you think of a better way to meet cute boys in London than to tell them you like the way they dress and ask to take their picture?
Shot Him: Because he’s wearing that hat and doesn’t look cheesy. Also, he’s perfectly stylish - without trying an ounce too hard.
He Says: “The pin’s from a US Army Navy store. The shirt’s a Fred Perry gift, the shoes are well loved and the jacket’s from Beacon’s Closet.”
We Say: We flew seven hours to find another cute boy wearing Beacon’s Closet?!

Madeline, 23, Writer
Got Her: At PPQ’s Spring/Summer 2009 show at the London Fashion Week Tent
Stalked Her: Because her simple hair and shoes defied the dangerously hip crowd - in a good way.
Shot Her: Because sometimes a PPQ dress is hard to wear if you’re not Lily Allen/Peaches Geldof/on a red carpet, and she managed to rock it pretty damn well.
She Says: “I used to work for PPQ! They’re amazing, and I still love helping them out whenever I can. Now I work for Distill magazine, it’s a new book and it’s like a magazine digest. So we feature the best of the international fashion press.”
We Say: Definitely a dress that’s fit to print.
