Would You Wear

Alexander Wang, Sophie Theallet and Billy Reid have each won a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award in the past three years, and the talented designers are no doubt in high demand for collaborative projects. So who has the powerhouse trio decided to partner with? None other than coffee-giant Starbucks.

In one of the most unlikely collaborations we’ve ever heard of, Wang, Theallet and Reid have all designed limited-edition tees in celebration of Starbucks’ 40th birthday. Each tee will be sold in-stores as well as online and, like everything else Starbucks produces, they will feature the instantly-recognizable logo of the brand (albeit slightly hidden).

Would You Wear… Female Silhouette Printed Clothing

Tuesday, Nov 30, 2010 / 4:52 PM

Images of Thom Browne’s SS11 womenswear collection appeared on the internet yesterday, showcasing not only Browne’s covetable designs, but also the staying power of a strange trend. Showing suits printed with female silhouettes, Browne’s Spring 2011 collection is the most recent in a string of designers to create items showcasing the female form. Read more »

Both BryanBoy and model Andrej Pejic have a penchant for wearing women’s clothing and this pair of seamless wraparound shades. Who rocks this look better?

Yesterday, at the Forever 21 opening, a group of us got into a discussion about going topless at places other than a nude beach. (See these Standard Hotel NSFW party pictures to get a sense of how we landed on the topic.)

Leah mentioned that it seems almost chic or trendy to take off your shirt, and/or bra, as much as you can these days, (but she concedes that she may have just not noticed it in the past). We all concurred.

Of course, one must look no further than Purple Diary for proof.

The long skirt (and dress) comeback is steadily gaining momentum. Whether it’s a backlash against the plateauing popularity of minis, or just another ‘90s trend revival, we’re kind of digging this look. And, given its prevalence on the Fall ’10 runways and even Resort, this trend isn’t dying down anytime soon. But we wondered: Can everyone pull it off?

I have this cute Charlotte Ronson sheer coral button-down with cream lace. When Lauren interviewed me for Fashionista, she asked if it was vintage. A few minutes later, I asked her if her sunglasses were vintage, and they turned out to be Karen Walker. Ha: I, too, have a pair of Karen Walker sunglasses that someone once thought were vintage.

I suddenly realized I have two relatively expensive designer items in my wardrobe that, apparently, every person I meet thinks is “vintage,” which, for some reason, my brain has equated with “cheap.” I felt a little annoyed. I wondered, is this a risk I’m taking every time I buy something vintage-inspired? And more importantly, is it really worth paying designer prices for something people presume to be vintage?

Last weekend, I took a short trip to the UK for a dear friend’s wedding. While I was only there for a few days, I made sure to stop by COS in London, simply because it’s the best high street store in existence. (That is, if you’re over 25 and now look absurd in too-trendy Topshop wares.)

I scored with a sheer, greenish-blue button-up, which I wore yesterday to the YSL show with high-waisted black pants and a pair of Heavy Machine heels. Oh, and a black bra, which shone quite clearly through the translucent top.

When I met up with my fiance for food, he kind of chuckled when he noticed that my bra could be pretty easily discerned by other diners in the restaurant. While he was more bemused than anything, he did think it was hilarious that I was cool with showing it off.

Clearly, sheer is huge this summer.

We applauded Donna Karan for showing off her stylish black leather fanny pack at a Parsons event earlier this spring. But the Schitbag? We’re not so sure it’s something we can get behind. Here’s a smidgen of the press release: “Schitbag” IS THE NEW STATUS PURSE Hands-Free Designer Belt Bag Fascinates Hollywood Los Angeles, CA [...]

Confession time–When I moved to New York last August, I was completely bald. (Full disclosure: It wasn’t by choice. I had just finished seven months of chemotherapy treatments, and I made an industrious effort to cover it up.) So seeing this picture of Agyness Deyn at Coachella brought back some powerful feelings, since my hair [...]

Last Thursday night, I hopped over to the release party of The Block Magazine’s fashion issue at Lower East Side boutique International Playground. Among the hoards of cool kids looking “I don’t care” chic, I noticed one girl sporting a giant mirror on her head. My first reaction was to love it. She kept the [...]

When Ralph Lauren sent overalls down his SS10 runway, it wasn’t exactly a look that shook the fashion world. The last time I was interested in a denim one piece was in college, when Imitation of Christ’s shorts-suit was on my wish list, but this season they’re everywhere again. Vanessa Bruno‘s have hit Net-a-Porter, Zara’s [...]

During the winter, I like to get dressed up for work. I wear heels–my favorites are my Acne booties and Proenza pumps–black tights, shift dresses and pretty blouses. I also wear lots of blazers, from my vintage YSL double breasted number to my black Helmut Lang tuxedo version. But today, I’m wearing a pair of [...]
