Abercrombie & Fitch Joins Bangladesh Safety Accord as Other American Retailers Develop Competing Initiative

Abercrombie & Fitch Joins Bangladesh Safety Accord as Other American Retailers Develop Competing Initiative

Abercrombie and Fitch has become only the second American brand, after Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger parent company PVH, to sign the Bangladesh fire and safety accord, WWD is reporting. The retailer joins the 30 some companies–mostly European–who have signed onto the IndustriALL Global Union-led agreement including H&M, Zara, Topshop, Mango, Bennetton, and Joe Fresh.

Gap and Wal-Mart, two of the world’s biggest retailers who routinely produce out of Bangladesh, still have not signed the accord. Wal-Mart revealed on Tuesday it would be pursuing it’s own initiative to improve worker safety in Bangladesh–and now it looks like other American retailers will be following a similar path.

Abercrombie & Fitch CEO’s Insane Rules for His Private Flight Crew Include Stipulations About Underwear

Abercrombie & Fitch has had its fair share of controversies over the years–masturbating models, over-the-top sexy ad campaigns, and trying to take over Savile Row (to name but a few). But today some information has come to light that is really bizarre. Turns out that Abercrombie’s CEO, Michael Jeffries, has some pretty, um, odd and specific rules for his private jet employees, according to Bloomberg.

The rules come from a 40+-page flight manual, which is being used as evidence in a discrimination lawsuit filed by a pilot who used to fly Jeffries’ private plane, and who alleges he was fired and replaced by a younger man. Here’s a sampling of some of the rules on Air Abercrombie:

Fashionista Week In Review: YSL Rebrands Under Slimane, Kate Upton Takes Over the Internet and the Best of Resort, Part Two

Saint Laurent Paris Does The Timewarp: On Wednesday, we reported that Yves Saint Laurent might be dropping the “Yves” as a means of rebranding the label under the direction of Hedi Slimane, and the very next day the storied fashion house confirmed, sending countless tweeters, bloggers and writers into a tizzy. We, on the other hand, started to think about what would happen if other design houses were to do the same.

Kate Upton’s Busy, Busy Week: The busty blonde graced the cover of GQ (which coincidentally channeled Azealia Banks in her latest music video for “Jumanji”), spoke onscreen about her love of America (and large breasts) and even taught Jimmy Fallon how to Cat Daddy. How’d she do it all? With some seriously genius self-marketing skills.

Asian Beauty Products That Might Just Save Your Skin: Okay, so maybe they won’t save your skin, but they’re certainly bizarre and intriguing enough to warrant a test-run. From charcoal shampoo to a chin contour mask to collagen-boosting marshmallows, we’re curious to see what will be first to hit the shelves of Sephora first (or, alternatively, be banned by the FDA).

Model-Turned-Actress, Everybody’s Doing It: Models are good looking people, and so are actresses. Actresses appear on magazine covers, and so do models. So it makes sense that models might whet their palates and give acting a try, right? Right. We rounded up the many, many models who have transitioned from runway to silver screen and analyzed how seamlessly and successfully they made the jump.

Hot Male Models Kiss and Shower Together In Bruce Weber’s New ‘Wrestling’ Videos For Abercrombie & Fitch

Legendary fashion photog Bruce Weber has been putting scantily clad, extremely fit, young people in his campaigns for years, and this new video series for longtime client Abercrombie & Fitch is no exception–though he’s done something a little different. These black and white videos are in the same vain as, say, the controversial A&F Quarterly, Read more →

Fashionista Week in Review: The Kraziest Karl Lagerfeld Kwotes, Caviar Manicures and Cats Takeover the Spring Ad Campaigns

Did You Know We Love Cats?: We aren’t messing around. Here at Fashionista really love cats. So we found 12 spring ad campaigns that, frankly, needed more cats and then we added said cats. You’re welcome.

Karl Lagerfeld is Krazy: The man is unquestionably a little bananas-sandwich, but we love him all the same. It’s hard to separate the man from the myth, however, when he lays out his (bonkers) daily routine for Harper’s Bazaar. Equally enjoyable: the kraziest Karl kwotes of all time.

Fake Abercrombie & Fitch Sells Racist Pants: Before you can even ask yourself who would bother counterfeiting A&F, they slap you in the face with an “N-bomb.” We can’t be sure if this was some sort of bad translation program, but we can definitely be sure it’s offensive.

Blair Mercer is Back: Our “Diary of an Anon Fashion Assistant” feature seems to split you guys between utter disbelief and strong sympathy, but this week’s is too good NOT to be true. Seriously people, can you make this stuff up?

Top 10 Designers from Arise Fashion Week: Arise Fashion Week just took place in Lagos, Nigeria and our contributor picked 10 designers you’ll want to keep an eye on. From the avant-garde to the historically inspired, we’re really loving all of it.

Savile Row Protests New Abercrombie & Fitch Store Selling ‘Crappy Clothes to Ghastly People’

Savile Row Protests New Abercrombie & Fitch Store Selling ‘Crappy Clothes to Ghastly People’

Savile Row is not happy to be sharing a neighborhood with Abercrombie & Fitch. In what is one of the most quintessential examples of British journalism that I have ever read–a perfect mix of snooty and hilarious–the Guardian is reporting that the tailors are irate about sharing a block with with the all-American label.

An Abercrombie & Fitch store is currently located just on the edge of Savile Row where “the proud old tailor shops could just about pretend it didn’t exist along with its loudly branded sweatshirts, its Eurotrash and its queues.” Well, it might not be so easy to ignore now. A&F is reportedly planning to open a children’s shop at 3 Savile Row, which is where, coincidentally, the Beatles did their famous rooftop performance. It’s also smack in the middle of the block of bespoke tailors, who took to their local council to complain.

Sex and the City Perfume Exists: And it is the fragrance most confiscated by customs officers. Of 138 commercial perfume shipments the Customs and Border Protection’s Intellectual Property Rights “National Targeting and Analysis Group” monitored in Los Angeles, 52 were busted for the phony SATC scent. Who knew? {WWD subscription required}

Andrej Pejic Was on a Roof in New York: The gorgeous model was spotted shooting with photographer Sebastien Micke for an unknown project. One of the outfits is a very skimpy bandage-style bathing suit. So stunning that it makes us want to stop complaining about having small boobs. {Telegraph UK}

Liv Tyler to Sing INXS Song for Givenchy: The actress will do a sultry rendition of ’80s rock band INXS’s “Need You Tonight,” for the launch of the Very Irrésistible Givenchy Electric Rose fragrance. {WWD subscription required}

Abercrombie & Fitch Offers The Jersey Shore‘s The Situation Six Figures To Stop Wearing Their Clothes

Abercrombie & Fitch Offers The Jersey Shore‘s The Situation Six Figures To Stop Wearing Their Clothes

Well this is a new one: Abercrombie & Fitch has offered The Situation cold hard cash (and lots of it) to stop wearing their clothing, WWD reports.

Apparently, the teen aspirational brand is not a fan of The Situation‘s drunken escapades and creepy hook-up tactics (who would have thought!?) and say they are “deeply concerned that Mr. Sorrentino’s association with our brand could cause significant damage to our image.”

Now we know what you’re thinking: Does this mean we have to see even more of The Situation’s shirtless body?
