We know from experience: Acne is persistent, recurrent and can be really depressing and make you feel unattractive. It’s also a bitch to treat. Luckily, science is making great strides in this area.
We chatted with Dr. Eric Schweiger, a dermatologist and founder of the Clear Clinic in NYC, to learn about the present and future of acne treatment. From crustaceans (yup, really) to Star Trek-worthy lasers to killer viruses, here’s the latest in fighting acne.

LONDON–Acne was the last show of a packed Sunday of London fashion week, and the fruity delicious cocktail offered to me by a lovely young guy wearing an all-black outfit (which included shorts, black knee socks, and black shoes), went down in about three seconds flat. If I could have pushed it via IV, I would have.
Perhaps that line of thinking got me focused on medical stuff, but this Acne collection looked like it could have walked straight out of an orthopedic unit. The pants were shown with girdle-like belts that sort of reminded me of those back support garments that movers wear. Some whiplash neck braces popped up, too, and there were a lot of flesh-toned garments reminiscent of ACE-bandages. But all very avant garde.
Thanksgiving is a notoriously hard holiday to dress for because it requires sitting at a dinner table for hours with relatives who you only see once a year while simultaneously trying to consume unreasonable amounts of food and/or liquor. This presents a unique problem: dressing to impress your distant family while maintaining a level of comfort that is conducive to eating and sitting for long periods of time.
While we all know Thanksgiving isn’t the time to break out our best Carine Roitfeld-inspired look–too tight for face-stuffing!–finding a fashionable alternative to sweats can be difficult. We’ve pulled together the most stylish items that are comfy, chic, and won’t disturb your proper Grandma. (So don’t wear your Balenciaga Darth Vader visor, ok?)
Of course our list includes Stella McCartney, the legendary mixer of casual and elegant, our favorite button downs from Madewell, a hat trick of cute shoes, and a Céline t-shirt–because a girl can dream, right?
Check out all the Thanksgiving-friendly options in our slideshow!
If you do a search on “pregnancy side effects,” one of the first things that comes up is acne. Because hormones make your oil glands go crazy, pregnant women can suffer from break-outs. Talk about adding insult to injury.
But that’s only applicable to mere mortal women. Victoria Beckham seems to be having the opposite occur during her fourth pregnancy. This morning Vogue UK reports on an item that originally appeared in Music-News.com. A “source close to the star” said that VB has suffered from acne for quite a while and nothing has worked–until she got knocked up, that is.
The source claims, “The hormones really suit her and she’s said this pregnancy has cleared up her spots!” Apparently she also has a lovely natural glow and David finds her “sexier than ever.” We hate her. (Kidding, kidding! We love her.)
