Beauty Tips We Learned from Our Moms

Beauty Tips We Learned from Our Moms

To celebrate Mother’s Day (which is this Sunday, so don’t forget to call your mom!), we’ve asked tons of people in the fashion and beauty industries for the most memorable beauty tip their moms ever gave them. Our moms are our first teachers after all. While we got some traditional mom-isms like, “Always wash your face!” we got plenty of unique bits of wisdom, too. (There are also a disproportionate amount of women who learned to worship at the altar of Clinique’s Three-Step System thanks to their moms.)

Click through to see what Jerry Hall, Georgia May Jagger, Pat Cleveland, Doutzen Kroes, Aerin Lauder and tons more learned from their moms.

Michael Kors Fall 2013: Glam Fashletes

The energy could not be higher in the room as Michael Kors presented his fall 2013 collection, despite the fact that between Nemo and the Grammys this fashion week has been rendered considerably less star-studded. Leave it to Kors to score a front row coup of Hilary Swank-next to-Zoe Saldana-next to-Jada Pinkett Smith-chaperoning Willow Smith-a few seats down from-Michael Douglas. In contrast with the celeb-second coming in the front row, Kors’s runway featured a team of “commando-glam fashletes”.

Aerin Lauder’s Lifestyle Brand is Happening, Will Include a Makeup Line Sold by Estée Lauder

Estée Lauder has confirmed earlier reports this week that its creative director, Aerin Lauder, is launching her own lifestyle brand, tentatively called AERIN. And while this is a completely separate company from Estée, the beauty heiress will continue to play a major role in her grandmother’s firm. “I’m thrilled to continue playing an active role in the iconic Estée Lauder brand, including serving as global brand ambassador and spokesperson,” she said in the statement. “At the same time, I look forward to pursuing my vision to create the AERIN brand.”

Aerin Lauder Wants to Launch Her Own Lifestyle Brand With the Help of Anna Wintour

After last week’s New York Times profile of the Lauder family, one would assume the clan was planning on maintaining a united front for the time being. Indeed, the piece even suggested that Aerin Lauder, granddaughter of Estée, was aiming for her highly-influential grandmother’s throne.

Instead, it seems that the beauty heiress is instead following in Estée’s entrepreneurial footsteps. She plans to launch her own lifestyle brand over the next year, according to the New York Post.

Helping her pave the way for the label–which will include jewelry, home goods, fashion and more–are Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour and former NBC head Jeff Zucker, who’s been brought on as a consultant.

Michael Kors’ New Makeup

Michael Kors may have been missing from Project Runway last night, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been logging in some quality time in Los Angeles. Perhaps honing his first color cosmetics collection, Very Hollywood, a collaboration with Estée Lauder (their second one of the designer variety after a couple with Tom Ford)? Is the New: Fashionair & Net-a-Porter

We’ve expressed our confusion over fashion networking sites before, and we still don’t really get it. But this site, Fashionair, which launches for the public tomorrow, has already stolen hours of our time – even if parts of it fall into the above category. It’s partly because it just looks so amazing and partly because Read more →
