I’ve resisted buying classic black stilettos for so long because, well, they’re boring. I always seem to want to drop $300 on a pair of color block snakeskin platformed sandals or maybe some blue suede oxfords that are totally impractical and I’ll wear all of three times.

But then, a few weeks ago, I got sick of never having the right closed-toe shoe to wear to fancy work events or friend’s birthday dinners or holiday parties and I decided: Hayley, it’s time to grow up and buy some real adult heels that I can wear in the office as well as outside of it, with jeans or with a fancy evening dress.

It’s basically winter, which means dry, cracked lips are my worst enemy.

I hate that dry, flaky lip feeling so much that I will pretty much do anything/ask anyone for lip balm if I don’t have any. Dry lips pretty much make me feel like I’m dying. Plus they make putting lipstick on impossible and don’t even think about drinking red wine.

While lip balm is a great solution (Carmex is my favorite right now, but Burt’s Bees will do in a pinch), nothing beats a good lip scrub to prevent the whole gross, unkissable lip situation altogether.

For some reason this season I’m craving over-the-top earrings. But because I can’t wear normal earrings, I’m relegated to clip-ons–and the pickings are surprisingly slim.

I have long, super, super curly mixed hair that I usually straighten myself by blowing it out. And even though I’ve been doing this regularly for the past ten years or so, I have never gotten coordinated enough to do the whole hair dryer in one hand/round brush in the other thing. Even when I’d try, my arms would get tired and I’d give up before 1/4 of my hair was dry (I have a lot of hair).

My life changed when one hair stylist I went to used a hair dryer with a comb attached to it to dry and smooth out my curls. One thing in one hand. “I can do that,” I thought to myself.

Let me start by saying that the fact that ASOS has dubbed these shoes ‘Hurricane’ is an absolute and total coincidence to the timing of my purchase! The truth is, I’ve had my eyes on these fuzzy sandals for quite a while now–but maybe all that extra time cooped up at home in Brooklyn was the extra little push I needed to grab my plastic and get ‘ta clickin’.
