Sex and the City Perfume Exists: And it is the fragrance most confiscated by customs officers. Of 138 commercial perfume shipments the Customs and Border Protection’s Intellectual Property Rights “National Targeting and Analysis Group” monitored in Los Angeles, 52 were busted for the phony SATC scent. Who knew? {WWD subscription required}
Andrej Pejic Was on a Roof in New York: The gorgeous model was spotted shooting with photographer Sebastien Micke for an unknown project. One of the outfits is a very skimpy bandage-style bathing suit. So stunning that it makes us want to stop complaining about having small boobs. {Telegraph UK}
Liv Tyler to Sing INXS Song for Givenchy: The actress will do a sultry rendition of ’80s rock band INXS’s “Need You Tonight,” for the launch of the Very Irrésistible Givenchy Electric Rose fragrance. {WWD subscription required}
What happens when a luxury company taps a worldy, sophisticated designer/actor/fashion person as their global brand ambassador? Usually, nothing. But, The Luxury Collection Hotels and Resorts managed to enlist a really cool one who does more than show up at parties.
Waris Ahluwalia, who you may know from his acting roles in Wes Anderson films, his beautiful jewelry line House of Waris and being impeccably well dressed at all times, is the hotel group’s “Global Traveler.” And as such, he’s gone above and beyond what was required of him to create a beautiful short film with an all-star cast and crew that includes I Am Love‘s Luca Guadagnino (director), Tilda Swinton (co-writer), Heidi Bivens (stylist), Jason Schwartzman (music) and Agyness Deyn in one of her first acting roles ever (she’ll play a stripper in her next film).
Yesterday, I had the pleasure (seriously, it felt like a mini-vacation in the middle of the day) to attend a private screening of Here (which you can watch in full above) with Waris and Heidi in a gorgeous suite at The Chatwal in midtown. We got to chat about making the film, putting together the gorgeous wardrobe and working with brand new actress Agyness Deyn. Read more »
Agyness Deyn, like so many models before her, is trying to make the jump from modeling to acting. And it looks like she’s doing it successfully. After a turn as Aphrodite in Clash of the Titans, we reported back in May that she landed the role of Flo the stripper in a remake of a 1996 film called Pusher. Read more »
Muammar Gaddafi Was So Vain, We Bet He Thought This Post Was About Him: Post-mortem tests conducted on the former Libyan leader hoped to prove the body’s identity through hair DNA samples – but it turns out he was wearing a wig. Gaddafi, who was plagued with rumors of having cosmetic procedures, was also reportedly carrying a gold plated gun when he was found yesterday… hiding in a sewage system. {Washington Post}
Versace Reissuing Classic Vintage Shirts: If you can’t wait until next month’s H&M collab and you have a spare $1,200 lying around, you can head on down to any Versace boutique right now and pick up one of their reissued vintage silk shirts. There are three options to choose from, and they’re all colorful and patterned and generally awesome. {Grazia}
Happy Birthday, Kim Kardashian: Wishing Kimmy K. a karefree 31st with loads of kake and ice kream. Here are some photos of her looking sexual over the years. Really, when does she not? {FabSugar}
At the VMAs last night, Lady Gaga spent the entire evening as her “male counterpart” Jo Calderone (which she first broke out on the September 2010 Vogue Hommes Japan cover, left) vehemently refusing to break character. Perhaps she felt she’d exhausted all womenswear options? Ran out of Versace? Couldn’t get to the costume store because of Irene? (I’m done now).
Whatever the reason, it made us think of some other famous gender-bending moments in fashion. Take a peek at who passed the best as the opposite sex (hint: there’s one designer who really loves his drag).
In the video component to Doc Martens “First and Forever” campaign, Agyness Deyn gives a touching performance opening up about her first heartbreak. “It’s like mourning isn’t it?” she asks. “It’s gut wrenching and then…you have to try to feel whole yourself again.” Model Ash Stymest, who also stars in the print campaign, plays Aggy’s faux boyfriend in the ad.
Maybe it’s just early but I’ve got to confess I got a little misty. And I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a lot more of Deyn on screen in the future.
Next month’s Harper’s Bazaar features an editorial of top brit model (and Mick Jagger spawn) Georgia May Jagger dressed as Margaret Thatcher. Don’t get me wrong, we love Georgia as Maggie, but doesn’t this look remind you of another British political themed shot? We’re talking about Agyness Deyn as Queen Elizabeth in LOVE #1–the image was used to promo the mag’s first ever issue. Read more »
We’re sure that when cavemen banged out rhythms on old animal skulls, all the most gorgeous cave girls immediately came running. While musicians have never had a hard time picking up women, it’s safe to say MTV made it easier for them. The era of the model/musician relationship bloomed during the MTV era–models and musicians were frequently thrown together during video shoots, which was a job that hadn’t existed for models before.
MTV just turned 30, and to honor the music channel which helped to give musicians faces and personalities, here’s our roundup of the 30 best (and strangest) model/musician pairings through the years.
The internet’s been abuzz this week with news of actors chopping off their hair for their art. Dakota Fanning, who’s shooting a movie about a girl with leukemia, was spotted with a crop but it turned out to be a wig. So was Vanessa Hudgens, but she actually did the deed for a role in the upcoming film Gimme Shelter in which she plays a homeless girl. She told Access Hollywood that she looks like a “soccer mom.” We have to say we sort of agree with her. (Run out and get a pot of Sebastian’s Craft Clay, Vanessa.)
But it’s an honored tradition for actresses to go short for a role, and the beautiful thing about hair is that it grows back. Sometimes a short crop can even make a career: look at Mia Farrow who let Vidal Sassoon chop her hair for Rosemary’s Baby. And Agyness Deyn didn’t get any attention in the modeling world until she went short.
To celebrate the tradition of celebs going short–whether for a role or because of a life change–click through to see a roundup of everything from totally bald to the cutest of pixies.

H&M Gets Smaller: It seems like everyone is doing a children’s line these days (maybe because everyone is pregnant/giving birth?) and now mass retail chain H&M can be added to that list. The clothes are not only very cute, but also for a good cause. They will benefit H&M’s All for Children initiative with UNICEF. {WWD}

Yep, Aggy has been cast as a stripper named Flo in the re-make of a 1996 film called Pusher. The story, which was originally set in Copenhagen, is about one week in the life of a drug dealer named Frank. Frank helps Flo leave the country. (We’ll have to see the movie to figure out why she wants out.)
The director, Luis Prieto, told Vogue UK that he didn’t know who Agyness was; he chose her based on her “impressive” audition.
Hannah MacGibbon Renews Chloé Contract For Another Season: The British designer isn’t going anywhere (at least not yet) despite rumors that she was getting the boot at the French house. We’re hoping that MacGibbon’s Spring 2012 collection is her best yet. {Telegraph}
