It’s been a very fashionable 2010, so to celebrate, we’ve decided to compile our first-ever list of the year’s best dressed. Professionally styled or not (most are not), these men and women have consistently gotten it right this year, or at the very least, impressed us with their individuality.

For each actor, musician, model or industry person on our list, we’ve selected five of his or her best looks from the past 12 months, so hopefully this list is also full of inspiration. In alphabetical order, we present to you our top 30 best dressed of the year.

At last night’s British Fashion Awards, the UK’s version of our CFDA awards (read: fashion Oscars), the ladies swept the show. According to Hilary Alexander at the Telegraph, last night’s awards were the strongest female showing since the awards were established in 1974.

Phoebe Philo, creative director for Céline, took home the top prize winning “Designer of the Year.” Alexa Chung took home the British Style award, an award decided by public vote which, according to the British Fashion Council, “recognises an individual who embodies the spirit of London and is an international ambassador for London as a leading creative fashion capital.” Naomi Campbell took home the new “special recognition” award and Lara Stone was named model of the year.

Of course the boys got a few nods, too. Here, the complete list of winners:

Conan and Tim Gunn on Majeggings: Tim Gunn was on Conan O’Brien last night and the host asked Gunn what he thought about man jeggings. His response? “Men don’t wear jeggings!” {Racked}

Has The Royal Wedding Dress Designer Already Been Chosen? Rumors are floating around that Kate Middleton has chosen the designer who will make her wedding dress. According to the bookmakers, Bruce Oldfield, who dressed Princess Diana, will be designing the royal gown. {Catwalk Queen}

Proenza’s Web-Exclusive Accessories: Proenza Schouler’s has released a web-exclusive mochila tote and wallet available for purchase only on their e-commerce site. The totes and wallets come in an array of colors and are reasonably priced. (Lauren already scooped up the teal wallet.) {Teen Vogue}

Julianne, Calendar Girl: Actress Julianne Moore is among the mostly nude models in the Karl Lagerfeld-shot Pirelli calendar. She, however, is clothed, posing as Hera, the Greek goddess of marriage. At a recent press conference, Karl called himself “the visual version of Homer.” {WWD subscription required}

Hillary Swank to Host Fashion Game Show? File this under things that make no sense. Oscar winner Hillary Swank is apparently developing a game show for the CW where fashion diehards are tested on their knowledge of fashion trivia and such. We guess Hillary dresses ok most of the time, but never would have guessed she’d end up hosting a fashion television series. Would you watch? {The Cut}

Alexa’s Holiday Surprise: If you didn’t get a chance to snag Alexa Chung’s blink-and-you-missed-it line for Madewell, you have one more chance before the holidays. Madewell is releasing one more piece tomorrow–a long tunic version of the bat tee. Alexa has even offered suggestions for styling: “Wear with tights and a grandad cardigan this winter or wear it to bed so you can look ace even as you sleep.” {People Style Watch}

The Sunday Styles profile of Alexa Chung didn’t tell us anything we didn’t already know. Well, except for two things:

1. She doesn’t employ a stylist. (But we’ve heard that she uses Susan Joy for big events, so we’re not convinced. Although she does have a better argument than Blake.)
2. She’s got a new television show coming out.

Thrift America will air on PBS next summer. Created by Style.com special projects editor Maya Singer, the premise takes Chung and Singer across the country, where they troll for treasures at estate sales, consignment shops and other second-hand havens. The first episode will takes place during London Fashion Week, where Chung and Singer helped Pamela Love set up a pop-up shop at Browns Focus. (Some of you surely attended the event–maybe you’ll be in one of the scenes.)

We think Thrift America shows plenty of promise. The great thing about airing on PBS is that Singer will be able to maintain creative control. And Chung will reach an audience that may have dismissed her as a low-brow entertainer. (Aka older, wealthy women who could care less about MTV and the Arctic Monkeys.)

Michelle Obama’s PETA Moment: Donna Karan hosted a cocktail hour/fundraiser at her Central Park West penthouse yesterday, which was attended by a slew New York designers and Michelle Obama, all of whom were greeted by PETA members protesting Karan’s use of fur. {WWD}

Kim’s Screen Test: We all know Kim Kardashian was naked in W, but you might not know that Kim and Kourtney used to play a game where Kourtney was Donna Karan and Kim was her tortured assistant. Also, if she wasn’t doing…whatever it is she does now, she would want to be in fashion or crime scene investigator. All this and more in an intimate interview with Lynn Hirschberg. {W}

Oh Ma Jeggings: In an important experiment, writer Joshua David Stein went to Uniqlo to purchase and test the wearability of “majeggings,” or, jeggings for men. Hilarity ensues. {Racked}

Best Dressed: Paris Fashion Week

Friday, Oct 8, 2010 / 5:30 PM

It was tough to pick just five girls from Paris Fashion Week’s abundance of sartorial greatness, but we did our best. We have a hard time ever excluding Alexa Chung, who looked adorable at Miu Miu. Lou Doillon is a Paris fashion icon in her own right and did not disappoint at Chanel. Rachel Bilson looked lovely at Dior. Anja Rubik rocked long, flowy Chloé and Caroline Sieber got a head start on Spring’s white trend at Valentino.

Madden’s Control: Steve Madden has increased his stake in Betsey Johnson from a $48.8 million loan to ownership of the brand’s intellectual property. Through licensing deals with Betsey Johnson LLC, Madden will get royalties from Johnson’s firm and its other licensees. {WWD, subscription required}

Calling All Aspiring Muralists: Rag & Bone hopes to solve their newest store’s unwanted graffiti dilemma by taking matters into their own hands. Sick of phrases like “You Would” and “F*** Africa” being tagged on the large white space underneath “Rag & Bone Bids Farewell to Cafe Colonial…,” they will hold a competition where artists can submit their work for consideration. The art will be voted on by Rag & Bone’s Facebook fans and the winner will be provided with all necessary painting materials and a $1000 store credit. Check out their site for more info. {Rag & Bone}

Major Shuffling in Paris?
The rumor mill is running wild following speculation that Stefano Pilati is done at YSL. Apparently, that is untrue, at least for the next 3 years, which is the length of the contract he just signed. There are also rumors that Karl Lagerfeld will retire from Chanel after his 30th anniversary in 2012 and be replaced by Alber Elbaz, whose position at Lanvin will then be filled by Oliver Theyskens. Lagerfeld retiring?? What? {Hint}

Best Dressed: London Fashion Week

Thursday, Sep 23, 2010 / 5:00 PM

We love Alexa Chung’ preppy-chic loafers and fitted blazer. We’re also absolutely smitten over Charlotte Dellal’s Charlotte Olympia banana clutch. Julia Johansen went wild in her colorful zebra print while at a Mulberry dinner. And both Cat Deeley and Caroline Sieber look stunning while arriving to the Burberry show.
