Remembering McQueen: A gathering of about 1,000 people took place at St. Paul’s Cathedral to memorialize Alexander McQueen. Speakers at the ceremony included Suzy Menkes and Anna Wintour, who told the story of how she “forgave” Mcqueen for not showing up to a photo shoot. {NY Times}
Gossip at the Tents: The main tent is still up at Lincoln Center, four days after the last show. Perhaps Gossip Girl will follow their next FNO episode with some staged Fashion Week footage. We can only hope. {Racked}
Gaga’s Meat Dress Was a Copycat: Lady Gaga probably thought her VMA meat outfit was one of her most original yet. Not so. According to Ripley’s Believe It or Not: Enter if You Dare! a Chicago girl wore a dress made from salami and bacon. Better luck next time, Gaga. {Refinery 29}

What is your favorite dessert? That’s a hard one. I’m a sweet kind of person but probably Macaroons.
What is currently your favorite song? “Salvation” by The Scanners.
McQueen’s Final Collection now in New York: Three pieces from Alexander McQueen’s final collection–his Fall/Winter 2010 collection–have made their way to windows of the late designer’s Meatpacking District store. {Racked}
Lady Gaga and Her Meat Dress: Last night was the MTV’s Video Music Awards. While accepting her award for Video of the Year, Lady Gaga came up on stage sporting a wacky meat dress. She also had a matching clutch and and platform shoes that were actually made of real meat. PETA, where are you? {JustJared}
Rebecca Minkoff Likes Bloggers: Rumi Neely of Fashion Toast was noticeably present at Rebeca Minkoff’s S/S 2011 presentation. However, she wasn’t there observing, she was actually one of the models. {Fashion Indie}

“Life in the Fat Lane,” the third chapter of media studies professor Laura Kipnis’ 1996 book Bound and Gagged, juxtaposed the dilemma of fat fetish pornography and how popular culture confront the issue of fat and desire. On one hand, obese porn, a niche in the vast porn business, is an absolute revolt against the dictatorial and incessant aesthetic of thinness. On the other, the images of these chubby women–often 44-35-44–entice desires that contradict and challenge prevailing cultural norms.
Yet over the past decade, the fat porn market has grown tremendously as acceptance of full size women becomes the norm. At least in the porn industry. Once a province of cheap production titles, big studios have been producing lavish titles with more budgets. The advance of web technology has allowed better quality for those choosing to self-published. Even the nomenclature has changed–the category is now called BBW or Big Beautiful Women. Hardly anyone ever mentions “fat porn” in an age where the “deviant” bodies of April Flores, Karla Lane, Kelly Shibari and Bonnie de la Cruz–some of the industry’s stars–are becoming household names.
Last night at the 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, we favored risk-taking and bright colors over all the dull black and navy that populated the red carpet. We have January Jones in Versace Atelier, Keri Russell in vintage Jean-Louis Scherrer Haute Couture, Emily Blunt in Dior, Anna Paquin in Mcqueen, and Betty White in a bold watercolor printed number.
Angel Love: Alessandra Ambrosio looks very un-angel-like on the cover of LOVE’s fourth issue and this is a very good thing. {Alessandra Ambriosio Facebook}
Gilt Perks: As if you needed another reason to shop on Gilt Groupe, the flash sale sight will offer shoppers the chance to get their hands on three upcoming Target designer collabs, including the highly anticipated Mulberry for Target line, this Friday, August 20th. Gilt members will be able to shop select pieces for Mulberry for Target as well as John Derian for Target and Tucker by Gaby Basora for Target for 36 hours. {Mama’s A Rolling Stone}
Because Hospital Gowns Wrap Too: DVF has designed colorful print hospital gowns for the Cleveland Clinic. The clinic is hoping DVF’s designs will make patients feel more comfortable. “We are very proud of our hospital gowns for the Cleveland Clinic,” DVF tweeted. “We worked hard at it and we hope it will make patients happier!” {Newsweek}
The new Fashion’s Night Out website launched today and it’s pretty impressive. You can browse and search every New York event listing and even create your own itinerary.
You can also narrow the 51 pages of listings down by neighborhood, category (men, women, beauty) and/or specialty (block party, celebrity, food). But if you’re looking for, say, ten or so events that are most likely worth checking out, look no further. We reviewed each and every page to bring you the ten FNO events we’re most looking forward to.
Prepare for a Chanel-inspired stampede. This autumn, Saks Fifth Avenue will become the first major US retailer to stock plus-sized clothing from all of its high fashion brands.
Goods from Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi, Oscar de la Renta, Valentino, and yes, Chanel, will soon be available up to size 14, with some brands extending to size 20. And rather than being segregated into a different section, plus-sized garments will be displayed on the same rails as straight-sized stock on Saks’ high-end third floor.
It’s astonishing that something so obvious, lucrative and longed-for could take this long. The plus-size clothing sector is worth $27 billion globally, according to data from New York-based buying firm Global Purchasing Group.
That’s partly due to prevailing health trends, but also a result of increasingly arbitrary sizing—the US doesn’t have any clothing size regulations, so a woman who wears a size 8-10 at a mainstream store might find that McQueen thinks she’s a 12 or 14.
The Spy Who Was Sold Separately: Hands-down sexiest lady in the recent Russian spy bust, Anna Chapman’s likeness has now been cast in plastic, and is available for purchase at Herobuilders.com. The (bizarrely muscular) Chapman doll is available in both a jeans-wearing, ass-kicking version and a topless seductress model. {New York Daily News}
A Sweet Life Indeed: New fall fashions threatening to hurt your bank account? Don’t fret! Dolce Vita’s line for Target will drop on August 22, to the sounds of simultaneous swoons from shopaholics and wallets. {Racked NY}
No Ugly Ducklings Here: As if you needed another reason to fantasize about a closet full of Rodarte… the first images of the sisters’ costume designs for Aronofsky’s new ballet-thriller flick Black Swan, starring Natalie Portman, have surfaced. {Fashionologie}
Which came first Daria or the necklace?: YSL’s Fall 2010 campaign was just released. Stefano Pilati seems to have styled Daria after the necklace she’s wearing at the Hôtel de Clermont-Tonnerre. {YSL}
I am a plastic bag: The celebrity-beloved Balenciaga Motorcycle bag has been knocked off for ages (we may have had one in high school). But now, this Japanese company is producing a plastic version in neon colors with weird bobbles, covered in drawings of Karl Lagerfeld, birds and Vogue logos. Will this be 2010′s version of those jelly Hermes knock-offs from 10 years ago? {Nylon}
Kate Moss for Isabel Marant: A first look at Isabel Marant’s Fall 2010 campaign featuring the one and only…{Fashion Gone Rogue}
Alexa makes YSL leather shorts look wearable; Anna’s Rodarte is amazing; Eva looks flawless in McQueen; and there were so many good looks to choose from at the recent Dolce & Gabbana party, but we narrowed it down to two of our favorite fashion girls.
