Alice Temperley on How She Got Pippa Middleton to Come to Her Show

On Wednesday night, I set foot in one of the most jealousy-inducing Manhattan lofts ever for an intimate soirée to celebrate the launch of Alice Temperley’s book True British: Alice Temperley (Rizzoli New York, 2011) and the 10 year anniversary of her label, Temperley London. Alice and friends/well-wishers like Padma Lakshmi, Derek Blasberg and Hamish Bowles were in attendance.

While a video of a hand flipping the pages of Alice’s book was projected onto a screen, we got a chance to chat with the designer about new projects and Pippa Middleton, who, as you might remember, attended only one show during London Fashion Week and that was Temperley. Even though we knew Pippa was a fan of the brand, we figured getting her to attend only your show must have taken some sort of PR magic. In fact, it was the easiest thing in the world.

Fashion News Roundup: Anna Wintour Made Hamish Bowles Try Out for X-Factor, Alice Temperley Thinks London Fashion Week Is Better Than New York’s, and a List of Movie Designers that Should Exist in Real Life

Alice Temperley Wants A Longer LFW: The Pippa fave feels London Fashion Week–which, at five days, is the shortest of the major four–should be extended. Says Ms. Temperley, “London’s better than New York Fashion Week now.” Alright, now tell us how you really feel! {Telegraph}

McCartney’s Collab for NYC Ballet: Stella McCartney has designed the costumes for a new ballet opening Thursday with a score penned by her dear old dad Paul. The designer feels collaborating with your father is “emotional” for anybody, but that “on another side, I know and understand I am working with Paul McCartney.” {WWD}

Fashion and Fantasy Mix in New Shopping Technology: “Augmented Realities” are growing in popularity on online shopping sites, where the obvious lack of trying-before-buying has always been a major problem. New and improved AR apps generally involve live feeds and 3-D imagery, allowing users to “try on” clothes, makeup, glasses… and grow horns?? {NY Times}

Fashion News Roundup: Beyonce Spoils Solange, Gaga’s Getting Sued, and the Thriller Jacket’s Been Sold

Beyonce gifts Solange with 25 pairs of shoes: The singer, who’s been known for spending millions on her loved ones, splurged at Saks and Bergdorf’s on Thursday, and bought her sis a pair of shoes for every year she’s been alive. Can we join this family? {NY Post}

Lady Gaga sued over wristbands: An attorney with Michigan-based 1-800-LAW-FIRM is suing Ms. Germanotta on pretenses that she profited from the “We Pray for Japan” wristbands sold on her website, of which proceeds supposedly all went to tsunami and earthquake relief efforts. Say it ain’t so, Gaga! {Showbiz Spy}

Heidi Klum is releasing a new QVC jewelry line; we’re hoping she doesn’t get sued this time: The supermodel plans for much more, well, original inspiration for her second collection. QVC and Heidi’s lawyers aren’t alone in crossing their fingers that she’ll avoid a lawsuit this time around. {Styleite}

Fashion News Roundup: RCA Honors McDowell and Temperley, The U.K. Doesn’t Take Kindly To Stupid, And Proenza Schouler Makes Ill-Timed “Oil Slick” Jewelry

Model Behavior: Modelinia polls some of their favorite models about their plans for this holiday weekend… and many of them aren’t as glamorous as you might think. {Modelinia}

A Slick New Look: Proenza Schouler drops its latest web-exclusives– an “oil slick” necklace and bracelet. Too bad it reminds us of the state of the Gulf….Poor timing? {Proenza Schouler}

Stupid Is As Stupid Does: Diesel’s “Be Stupid” ads got a lot of attention when they debuted in the U.S. back in March, but it seems the U.K. is not a fan. The campaign has been banned by the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) for indecency and for fear they could “be seen by children and might encourage bad behavior.” Ok, U.K., you hold on to your “Keep Calm And Carry On”; we’ll keep our “Be Stupid.” {The Huffington Post}

We’ll Make a Brighter Day, Just You and Me

In case you didn’t know, tomorrow is Human Rights Day which we’re guessing is kinda like Christmas at the Jolie-Pitt chateau. It also happens to be very important to Alice Temperley. She collaborated with Amnesty International to make this candle that smells pretty amazing–a mix of blackcurrant, rose, jasmine, patchouli and vanilla. It also bears Read more →

Time to Redesign

While we’ve spent a bit of time over the past couple of weeks discussing some of our seemingly stagnant print titles and how we wish they would take some time to revamp, we’re happy to hear that websites aren’t all standing still.
