Grandma-Appropriate, Not-Too-Tight Thanksgiving Outfit Ideas That Are Still Cute

Thanksgiving is a notoriously hard holiday to dress for because it requires sitting at a dinner table for hours with relatives who you only see once a year while simultaneously trying to consume unreasonable amounts of food and/or liquor. This presents a unique problem: dressing to impress your distant family while maintaining a level of comfort that is conducive to eating and sitting for long periods of time.

While we all know Thanksgiving isn’t the time to break out our best Carine Roitfeld-inspired look–too tight for face-stuffing!–finding a fashionable alternative to sweats can be difficult. We’ve pulled together the most stylish items that are comfy, chic, and won’t disturb your proper Grandma. (So don’t wear your Balenciaga Darth Vader visor, ok?)

Of course our list includes Stella McCartney, the legendary mixer of casual and elegant, our favorite button downs from Madewell, a hat trick of cute shoes, and a Céline t-shirt–because a girl can dream, right?

Check out all the Thanksgiving-friendly options in our slideshow!

Yup, serious daddy complex there. {Gawker}

Fashion News Roundup: American Apparel Tries To Make Nice, Miss J. Would Spank Lindsay Lohan, and a Toddler Cowgirl Fashion Show

American Apparel Eats Humble Pie: The controversial retailer is apparently trying to reach out to Nancy Upton, the woman who mockingly entered AA’s plus-size modeling comp and ended up garnering the most public votes. The retailer, who previously wrote an angry letter to Upton (and crowned a different winner), has once again reached out to the “contestant,” offering to fly her to their LA factory to show the actual roles of women in the company. Wonder if Dov will be on hand for an impromptu photo shoot? {NY Daily News}

Ridiculously Underaged Models Cap Off NY Fashion Week: Fashion week went out with a sort of creepy bang yesterday, as several six-year-olds dressed like sexy cowgirls gyrated on stage at the Bryant Park Hotel in an event hosted by Real Housewife Kelly Bensimon. The clear star of the show was Eden Wood, a pageant vet who’s already won 300 awards. I feel weird now. {NY Post}

American Apparel Responds to Nancy Upton’s Campaign Against Their “Next Big Thing” Plus-Size Model Search; Explains Why Upton Didn’t Win

American Apparel Responds to Nancy Upton’s Campaign Against Their “Next Big Thing” Plus-Size Model Search; Explains Why Upton Didn’t Win

Last month, American Apparel launched a nationwide contest to find a plus-size model, in celebration of the brand’s addition of XL sizes to a couple of their styles. The contest, titled “The Next Big Thing,” was rife with euphemisms and jokes, which outraged many who felt that the contest was mocking, rather than celebrating plus-size women.

But no one felt stronger than Nancy Upton, who challenged American Apparel by entering the contest and submitting photos of herself gorging on food, and generally satirizing what she perceived to be the company’s misconceptions about plus-size women.

Of course, Upton actually wound up receiving the most votes in the contest, and should have won but the company decided to award the title of “Next Big Thing” to other contestants.

Now, The Frisky has alerted us to a letter American Apparel’s Creative Director Iris Alonzo sent to Upton, which Upton also published on her Tumblr this morning. The letter addresses both Upton’s campaign against the contest, and the reason why she didn’t win despite getting the most votes.

Who Knew? Midnight in Paris‘ Lea Seydoux Is Also a Topless ‘Pantytime’ Model for American Apparel

If you’ve been to the American Apparel website in the past two days or so, you’ll have noticed that it’s Pantytime, which is considered a national holiday in Dov Charney-ville. What is Pantytime? It’s a sale on undies and also an excuse to post photos of young, sexy, 20-somethings in their knickers. You can’t fault American Apparel for ever going off-brand–they’ve got a schtick and they’re schticking to it. But same ole, same ole right?

But then in the middle of the slideshow of bottoms, a photo of a recognizable face popped up.

I read the little caption beneath, and wow, it’s Lea Seydoux, the darling actress from Woody Allen’s summer flick Midnight in Paris (which has just been extended to run until August 26) and Prada’s forthcoming Candy fragrance ads. She was a model before she was an actress (as all pretty French girls are), and after a little research I stumbled onto a ton of photos of her model cards, her as a brunette snapped by Garance, and there were also a few NSFW ones from her stint at American Apparel.

So click through to find out a little more about Pantytime and see Lea Seydoux’s XXX AA shots.
