10 Lessons I Learned at Teen Vogue‘s Fashion University That Will Help You Land Your Dream Job

This Saturday, I found myself among the hordes of well-dressed 16-24 year-olds at Teen Vogue‘s annual Fashion University event in Midtown Manhattan, where industry VIPS like as Grace Coddington, BryanBoy, Amy Astley and more, dropped their infinite fashion knowledge on us.

Competition for seats was fierce. Girls and boys from all over the world rushed and crushed into seats like their careers depended on it. And after everything I learned this weekend, maybe our careers did depend on it.

From working a part-time job at Starbucks, to online etiquette, to taking the time to enjoy just being a kid, here are the top 10 lessons I learned about how to land my fashion dream job.

Wild Wild Westward: Kate Spade New York’s New Collab with Emily Current and Meritt Elliott

Wild Wild Westward: Kate Spade New York’s New Collab with Emily Current and Meritt Elliott

If Tuesday’s earthquake taught us anything, it’s that certain Californian elements just don’t translate to the Atlantic coast–at least not without a lot of Twitter protest. But when we heard several months ago that Kate Spade New York, purveyor of all things preppy-pretty, was poised to team up with L.A. stylists Emily Current and Meritt Elliot (the same team behind those perfectly slouchy boyfriend jeans) for a special collection, our ears instantly perked up.

On Wednesday night, we headed to Kate Spade New York’s Broome Street boutique to witness the results. From leather-edged envelope clutches sparkling with charcoal-toned sequins to ostrich-skin shoulder bags and logo-free satchels sure to get even better with age and wear, every single piece in the duo’s “Westward” lineup embodies heritage-steeped simplicity.

In between sips of champagne and bites of sliders, we chatted with Kate Spade New York Creative Director Deborah Lloyd about how the collab came about. “It was all about joint admiration,” she said, “plus, my own assistant wears Current/Elliott head-to-toe to work!” Lloyd explains that while us Manhattanites tend to go for a “matching, polished” aesthetic, she loved the notion of adding a Californian touch to her label’s famously girly look. “It was all about the laid-back style and relaxed peace that they brought to the bags, the unusual materials and the mixing-up of things. But you still see those Kate Spade pops of polish and sweetness.”

Last Night’s (Other) Party: WGACA Fetes Made Her Think and Resin’s Blinged Out Jeans

We’re nuts about Meredith Kahn‘s accessories line Made Her Think, and when we learned Kahn was working with Resin’s Chantel Valentene on several summer denim essentials, our jewelry-hungry ears perked up.

Last night, Soho vintage emporium What Goes Around Comes Around hosted a laid-back, intimate launch to celebrate the collaboration pieces. With Teen Vogue‘s Andrew Bevan playing deejay (nobody spins ’90s hits better), guests including Becka Diamond sipped Kanon Vodka cocktails and flipped through racks of amazing vintage tees.

Mulberry at Coachella: Best Party Ever???

Mulberry at Coachella: Best Party Ever???

Coachella is almost as much about the fashion as it is the music, so it makes more-than-perfect sense that Mulberry–whose parties nearly always including an awesome musical guest like Florence and the Machine, Hot Chip, or Kelis–is hosting a backyard BBQ during the festival.

Creative director Emma Hill will be lighting up the grill poolside at The Parker Hotel, accompanied by guest DJs Miike Snow and Teen Voguer Andrew Bevan.

And since this is Mulberry, anticipate appearances from a few of Coachella’s most-VIP attendees. (Kate Bosworth spent the whole of last year’s festival decked out in the label’s bags.)

Here’s a sneak peek at the invite.

House of Lavande’s Ultimate Costume Party

House of Lavande’s Ultimate Costume Party

The hundredth anniversary of Palm Beach? The fifth anniversary for antique jewelry boutique, House of Lavande? And one private beach front property? For House of Lavande’s owner, Tracy Smith, all this equaled a spectacular reason to celebrate. The lauded vintage jewelery connoisseur opened her home in Palm Beach’s North End to a chic crowd of New Yorkers. Among the hand selected group of sixty guests were medialites Amanda Hearst, Becka Diamond, Andrew Bevan, Luigi Tadini and Mickey Boardman, as well as designer Chris Benz and stylist Mary Alice Stevenson.

We wish you could have been there too, but we took the liberty of attending on your behalf. While we struggled to interpret the dress code, which called for “modern vintage,” others didn’t. Guests were draped in everything from Michael Kors corduroy suits to vintage Vivienne Westwood. See ow they complemented their wardrobe with Smith’s expertly chosen House of Lavande pieces.
