André Leon Talley Calls the 2013 Oscars Red Carpet the ‘Dullest, Saddest’ Yet

When it comes to good quotables, André Leon Talley can give Karl Lagerfeld a run for his money. And now, with all the new projects ALT has in the works (like a late night TV talk show), he’s been talking a lot.

The Vogue contributing editor sat down with WWD for a chat about why he took his new Russian Numéro gig (hint: ka-ching!), his relationship with Anna Wintour, yet another new project he’s working on, and his no-holds-barred take on the recent Oscars red carpet.

Old Hollywood Glamour, Prada Style

Old Hollywood Glamour, Prada Style

You never know what you’re going to get with Miuccia Prada. I mean this is the woman who made plain nylon bags–and massive Geisha-inspired platforms–a thing. Prada is the rare designer who can dart between over-the-top editorial-bait (see: Spring 2013, Spring 2010), and understated, quiet luxury without ever seeming like she’s lost her way. For fall 2013, she went with the latter: A moody, yet surprisingly wearable, collection.

Everything from the slightly unsettling shadow play moving on the walls–a cat’s tail swishing, fans slowly turning, and a woman posing as if for a mirror–to the suspenseful music set the tone for darkly cinematic collection.

What We Saw at New York Fashion Week, Day Nine

It’s over! New York Fashion Week wrapped up today with shows by New York fashion’s heaviest hitters: Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, and Marc Jacobs.

At Ralph we caught Anna and Grace sitting front row, at Calvin we took in the structured looks as the models whizzed by, and we got our tans on at Marc since he managed to lasso the sun for his fall show.

Fashion Editors, Anti-Defamation League Rush to Galliano’s Defense After ‘Hasidic Outfit’ Fall-Out

Fashion Editors, Anti-Defamation League Rush to Galliano’s Defense After ‘Hasidic Outfit’ Fall-Out

There’s much to be said about John Galliano and his return to fashion.

Fashion industry leaders, like Anna Wintour and Oscar de la Renta are all for it (it was Wintour, after all, who asked de la Renta to host Galliano in his studio). A select few members of New York’s Jewish community quoted in yesterday’s reactionary New York Post story, are against it. But whatever camp you fall into, there’s certainly a lot to discuss–and that’s precisely what top fashion writers like WWD‘s Bridget Foley, the International Herald Tribune‘s Suzy Menkes and the New York Times‘s Eric Wilson have done today.

What We Saw at New York Fashion Week, Day Five

Today we hit the midway point in the New York fashion week madness, with shows from Derek Lam, Victoria Beckham, DVF, Zac Posen, and many more.

We got a pretty good seat behind Anna and Grace at Thakoon and spied Bryanboy and Fashionista contributor David Yi rocking matching looks at DKNY. We also caught dreamgirls Crystal Renn and Coco Rocha being beautified backstage as Zac Posen (as if they needed it), and models vogueing backstage at Derek Lam.

Check out everything we saw and snapped from day five of New York fashion week!
