First Look: Aritzia Spring 2012

Canadian retailer Aritizia has been at its new home in Soho for about five months now and seems to be doing well, putting out cute, affordable, current clothes with consistency. The brand’s spring 2012 collection was unveiled yesterday and it doesn’t disappoint.

The collection is full of cute, easy, wearable pieces that are on trend but not obnoxiously so. In fact, there are a lot of chic, simple classic pieces like button-downs, blazers, simple trousers and a great trench that, given the retailer’s focus on quality, will likely stand the test of a decent amount of time. There are also tons of pretty, feminine dresses in pastels and washed out colors as well as ethereal fabrics like silk georgette, crepe de chine, organza and silk charmeuse. Aritzia Soho is Officially Open, Plus a Sneak Peek at Fall

Aritzia‘s long-awaited first New York flagship is officially open for business and it is gigantic and full of very cute things you are going to want to buy. We stopped by for a little preview this morning and despite the boutique’s immense size and “metaphysical” theme, the store is comfortable, sleekly designed and, thankfully, not nearly as flashy as many of the stores that share its busy stretch of Broadway in SoHo.

The flagship, which is somewhere between Topshop and Zara in both size and location, has a more high-end boutique feel than its supposed competitors, as does the clothing. Aritzia‘s Madewell-esque focus on offering beautifully-designed clothes that are on trend, high quality and good value really shows in the brand’s spring collection; as well as fall, which I got to see up close this morning. I was particularly impressed by the coats and sweaters, which are all made with the best wools and cashmeres and yet are somehow ridiculously affordable. Right now, only Aritzia’s nine in-house lines are available, but soon you’ll be able to shop pieces from some of their favorite contemporary designers brands like Vena Cava, Acne and Vanessa Bruno. Click through for some of our favorite fall pieces. And don’t forget to stop by the store, located on the corner of Broadway & Spring.

Look Book: The Best Looks From Aritzia for Spring

You’ve all probably heard by now that Canadian retailer Aritzia is opening up shop in SoHo. The store opens officially at 528 Broadway in early June, but New Yorkers can secret shop now at their “shop before the shop” on the third floor of 524 Broadway.

We shopped before the shop and can report that it is very good news that Aritzia is finally coming to NYC (we had never heard of Aritzia before though they’re huge in Canada and have outposts on the west coast and in Chicago). Imagine Madewell plus Topshop plus Intermix all rolled into one. When the actual store opens in June they’ll carry many different brands (a la Intermix or Scoop) in addition to their own lines. But we’d be quite content to shop from Aritzia’s nine in-house lines.

For spring there are luxe silk blouses, draw string silk pants cropped at the ankles, floaty skirts in creams and blushes, as well as younger-trending pieces like Baja hoodies, varsity jackets, and one very adorable sweater with a horse on it. Best part is the price–nothing is marked much higher than $150.

Check out our favorite looks from Aritzia for spring.
