Where Donna Karan’s contemporary line, DKNY, was inspired by the daily hustle of the city and the working girls who inhabit it, for her spring namesake collection Karan evoked the serenity of NYC–those moments when you’re entering the city by car or train and it somehow manages to seem still and calm.

Day five of New York Fashion Week was a real dream. We took in shows from Marc Jacobs, Chris Benz, Preen, Karen Walker, and Donna Karan – meaning we saw all our friends and our favorite NYFW celebrities.
We snapped Dakota Fanning meeting Jared Leto at Marc Jacobs, the fabulous Michelle Harper at Preen, and Coco Rocha at Betsey Johnson. We also received a cute (and cat themed!) Valentine’s Day gift from our PS I Made This and caught up with the Man Repeller, Leandra Medine, twice!

As you may recall, last fashion week fell on the 10 year anniversary of 9/11. Many designers respectfully paid homage to the tragedy and Donna Karan, designer of quintessentially New York brands, was no exception. When her models hit the runway against a the backdrop of a cab parked in the middle of 26th street, we mentioned the stunt would have been just as fitting had DKNY showed any other day, not just 9/11/11. And we were right. She did the same thing again this season. It was just a little colder this time. Luckily, this was an unmistakably fall collection and she was nice enough pair all dresses and skirts with opaque tights–a realistic decision for a realistic collection.
As the models walked inside from the sidewalk, they looked like they could have been any New Yorker walking in from the cold. That’s what DKNY is all about–cool clothes that real girls can and will actually wear. Favorites included a floral suit that looked strangely wearable, a deep burgundy fur and leather coat and a black figure-flattering off-the shoulder cocktail dress.
Of course, celebrities will wear these clothes too, like Ashley Greene and Nina Dobrev.
It looks like those retro bodysuits from Prada’s spring 2012 collection are shaping up to be a popular magazine look. It’s not even February, and they’ve already made four glossy appearances–most recently on Daria Werbowy on the cover of Vogue Paris.

We can’t believe Fashion’s Night Out (and, thus, fashion week) is only a week away. As anyone who has ever been to a Fashion’s Night Out is probably aware, they pack enough events to fill an entire week into just a few hours, so pre-FNO planning is key.
