Sometimes it feels like everyone in New York City is carrying either a Proenza Schouler PS1 or a huge Chanel bag. While dropping $2,000 on a bag is an “investment” for some people, for others it’s just plain out of reach. We were convinced that there had to be fantastic, high-quality, well-designed bags out there for less than $300 (which don’t make you resort to buying Kardashian knock-off bags.) And we were right!
From the high street stores to some of our favorite designers–like Alexander Wang and Marc Jacobs–we found 10 bags to fit most budgets (we’re talking $300 or under here) and pretty much any style.

Ugg-ly Footwear Losing Stock Value The end of a fashion epidemic?? Stock in the comfy-yet-unfortunate looking booties has fallen a nearly unheard of 39% in the past week, and Crocs aren’t doing so hot either. It’s time to put them away, people. Forever. {Racked}
Tom Ford’s Documentary Airs Next Week : Tom Ford: Visionaries will air October 23 on OWN, offering a rare “intimate” look at Ford’s creative process and daily life. He apparently takes more than three baths a day. While we’re really excited about this doc, we’re secretly wishing this were a segment of now-defunct Oprah Winfrey Show– if only to hear Opie belt out a satisfying “Tooooom FoooOOOooord!!!” {Marie Claire}
Fashionable TwitPics of the Week: Revealing phone pics of Kim K. doing hookah, Hilary Rhoda’s store bought cookie dough, and Lily Donaldson on a very tiny horse. There’s even one of Doutzen Kroes doing her best Scarlett Johannson impression… well, almost. {FabSugar}
Chanel Model on France’s Dancing With The Stars Male model, Karl’s muse, and sometimes-”pop star” Baptiste Giabiconi is a contestant on France’s version of DWTS. He’s often shirtless… and wearing body glitter. Wonder if Karl tunes in every week for inspiration? {OhLaLa}

The woes of adapting to a new season never seem to end when you’re short on savings and want everything that shows up on the runways. It’s tough to update a wardrobe without spending a ton, especially in this city. The key is prioritizing: decide what’s worth splurging on, what you’re going to skip (you don’t need to sport EVERY trend–you’ll look maniacal), and what’s trendy but not worth a large price tag. Easier said than done? Here’s a guide to some of the season’s biggest looks from easily-accessible retailers, all under $50 (with a few exceptions).

American Apparel is really, really trying. The company, which we reported earlier will begin to carry other brands, was front-row-and-center on our daily newsletter from ASOS, who has recently started carrying the brand.
According to a press release on PR Newswire, the two companies inked a deal August 9, after a test buy earlier this year resulted in success: “Initial consumer reaction was extremely positive as expected, hitting 100% sell through on first delivery,” Robert Bready, ASOS Product and Trading Director, said in the press release.
As we all know, American Apparel has been in a downward spiral for quite some time now. However, they seem to be on the right path lately, having recently announced plans to also sell their product on eBay and in Bloomingdale’s.

We are obsessed with anything involving nail polish and know you are, too. So we’re proud to announce a new Fashionista column, The Daily Nail, in which we will feature a bit of nail news–every single day!
Today we’re featuring the work of Sophy Robson, whose site has quickly become a must-read for us (and who first showed the world the Fall 2011 Chanel polishes a couple weeks ago). She was tagged to do the nails for ASOS‘ music issue, and her inspiration was musical nail icons–like Katy Perry, Beyonce, and Lady Gaga (note the butterfly–a McQueen tribute–on the “Gaga” nails.)

Online shopping mecca ASOS has a knack for churning out trends just they way we like them. A lady bag in fluorescent blue, a long plaid dress that isn’t too ’90s redux, and a cherry red topcoat that looks more proper than prim are just a few examples of the site’s Fall 2011 offerings.
