Banana Republic’s Mad Men collab collection from last fall was a surprise hit for the retailer. And the demand for Sixties fashion shows no signs of slowing down, if the recent Chanel couture “airplane” and new TV shows like Pan Am are any indication. The retailer just announced today that it will release a second Mad Men-inspired collection. The collection, designed by Banana Republic in collaboration with Mad Men costume designer, Janie Bryant, will include 40 pieces of apparel and jewelry, for both men and women.

Christian Siriano Is Designing Bridalwear: This makes perfect sense, though its timing with Heidi’s divorce is just that much more heartbreaking *sob*. Siriano tweeted that it was an exclusive collection with Nordstrom. Next up: white satin pumps at Payless? {NYMag}
Karl Lagerfeld’s New Kitten Likes to Eat Paper: This item made it into WWD. That is all. {WWD, subscription required.)

Here Are 10 Great Bags That Cost Less Than $300 (We Even Found an Alexander Wang)
Sometimes it feels like everyone in New York City is carrying either a Proenza Schouler PS1 or a huge Chanel bag. While dropping $2,000 on a bag is an “investment” for some people, for others it’s just plain out of reach. We were convinced that there had to be fantastic, high-quality, well-designed bags out there for less than $300 (which don’t make you resort to buying Kardashian knock-off bags.) And we were right!
From the high street stores to some of our favorite designers–like Alexander Wang and Marc Jacobs–we found 10 bags to fit most budgets (we’re talking $300 or under here) and pretty much any style.

Fashion News Roundup: Kate Middleton Shops at Banana, a Little Boy Gets a Leg Wax, and Dr. Martens Launched a Clothing Line
Kate Middleton Shops at Banana Republic: Continuing her tour of high street stores to (ostensibly) shop for her honeymoon, Kate was spotted in Banana Republic buying summer clothes yesterday. Mom Lets Her Little Boy Try a Leg Wax: After watching his mom and her friends wax their eyebrows, the boy insisted that he wanted to try it. His mom obliged by putting a tiny bit on his leg fluff. The result is eardrum-shattering. (Hey, it’s never to early to learn manscaping.) {HuffPo}

Banana Republic Fall 2011: Dunaway-Esque
Banana Republic showed their fall collection yesterday on the second floor of the Bowery hotel, set to a live, soulful soundtrack by A Fine Frenzy. For fall, Banana Republic is falling instep with the ’70s trend in a major way–looks were described as “Dunaway-esque” on the line sheet. Creative director Simon Kneen sent out menswear-inspired pants and drape front pencil skirts in browns and camels paired with knits in mustard, tomato and plum over silk blouses. There were flashes of winter white too, as well as animal prints here and there on lady like gloves and swing coats. The collection felt luxe, cozy, and inviting despite the steamy temps inside the venue. Also The Daily Show‘s Aasif Mandvi and Samantha Bee were inexplicably there. New campaign stars maybe? That would be awesome.
Check out the fall collection.
