If you haven’t hopped on the Pinterest bandwagon yet, you should get on it, pronto. Founded in March 2010, image-based social networking site Pinterest made waves in the start-up world, garnering over 11 million total weekly views in December 2011 — a 4000% increase over six months.
The site allows users to follow other pinners and re-pin (re-post in Pinterest terminology), “like,” and comment on content that others have posted or pinned. Pinners create boards that fall under categories like Art, DIY & Crafts, Home Decor and Women’s Apparel, modeled after thematic mood boards used by magazines and fashion designers for inspirational and organizational purposes. Users can follow all boards created by a user or select individual boards to follow, filtering out pins that aren’t relevant or don’t interest them.
Parsons Alums to Design for Christian Louboutin: For the never-ending celebration of the brand’s 20th anniversary, Christian Louboutin is enlisting the talents of Parsons alums to design garments to fit the Loubi aesthetic. Five 2010-2011 graduates were chosen, and their designs will be on display at the Louboutin 20th anniversary event at Bergdorf Goodman in early February. Topshop and the British Fashion Council’s NEWGEN is Teaming Up Once Again: for a collection of t-shirts designed by some of its most noted alums including Mary Katrantzou, Christopher Kane, and Meadham Kirchhoff. The collaboration is in celebration of Topshop’s ten-year affiliation with the NEWGN designer sponsorship, and will be available during London Fashion Week in stores and online at Topshop, as well as in the retailer’s LFW pop-up shop in Selfridges. {Vogue UK}

I’m not so jaded and cynical that meeting certain designers doesn’t leave me as excited as a little kid on Halloween. Starlets and actors do nothing for me, but I’m always excited to meet designers, especially ones with as much legend surrounding them as Tom Ford. With that being said: I MET TOM FORD YESTERDAY AND I TOUCHED HIM. (Well, I shook his hand. I didn’t sneak up on him and touch his leg or anything. Not that I didn’t think about it.)
Ford was at Bergdorf Goodman to celebrate the launch of his hotly anticipated beauty collection and to do a customer meet-and-greet and to sign autographs.
The Tom Ford beauty collection launch is almost upon us. While we’ve been hearing that it will be available at the end of October (and we got to see a teaser peek at Fashion’s Night Out at the Tom Ford store), we just found out that the collection will launch at Bergdorf Goodman on November 1 (and you can pre-order now); it’s also available for pre-sale at Neiman Marcus. So you can drool over the whole glorious collection for the next few weeks.
There’s a skin care range, brushes, nail lacquer, eye shadow quads, Ford’s stunning lipsticks (whose success encouraged the launch of this full beauty range) and everything in between. If you were hoping for some really sexy color names, you might be a bit disappointed. The raciest it gets is “Love Bruise” and “Ravish.
Some of you are just back to school and some of us are sadly done with school for good but we remember how fun it was to gather all your required back-to-school reading and dive in (okay, we were nerds). Tom Ford is a man of style. Tom Ford is a man of mystery. Tom Ford is a man who designs four womenswear collections a year and writes and directs an Oscar-nominated film in his “spare time.” But more than that, we don’t know that much about Mr. Ford. Thankfully, Bergdorf Goodman and Lisa Eisner cleared that up for us with their latest installment of a “Bergdorf Goodman Conversation,” (which we read about on Elle.com. Here are the top 10 things we learned about Tom Ford:
1. Tom Ford was born an adult.
I was born fifty. When I was five years old, I wanted to be fifty. I knew exactly what I was going to look like, exactly what I was going to be doing. Although when I was five, I had envisioned that I was going to have very distinguished gray at my temples, which I have decided to avoid. I always wanted to be fifty. I never felt like a little kid. I wanted to be at my parents’ cocktail parties. I wanted to live in a glamorous apartment—I thought in New York, but now I’d rather not live in New York.
Fashion’s Night Out round three promises to be the biggest yet.
